Here's my favourite:

Estonian athlete Erki Nool at discus throwing. He won decathlete gold medal in Sydney Summer Olympics 2000.*

* - The victory was really big deal, since in country with only 1,4 million population, good sportsmen are very rare to find, and his success both raised new hopes/belief in sports and easened some tense between our usually never-too-peaceful ethnic groups (Estonians and Russians: everybody cheered for Erki together)

Since I'm usually totally wild with 24-bit palette, I was really scared to use too much colors. Now looking at it, I understand that I was way too cautious. Also I didn't have any good photos to trace, so it's quite freestyled. But the national-colors outfit is correct.

Er... I'm still not sure should I post this, but...

What's here to want so much?

1) The engine is horribly outdated, if it comes to graphics. AND, its limits on everything are horribly low, like poly and sprite count per scene. To cut long story short, it's SO 1998. Most painful point is unavailability to use bump and cubemaps, at least, not without hardcore plug-inning and textures: MD2 and texturing it requires really good third-party tools and luck - to get it all look right. Also, i never seen a water in any 3dGstudio game which really looks like one

2) It has awful joke named "Model Editor" which is too awful to even explain...

3) C-style scripting is... paradoxal. While it's not too difficult to learn, it's nightmare to actually use

4) Skyboxes... I won't say anything here. Just look at those horrid things...

5) Maximum texture resolution is awfully low :z
I'll take that one back: got it to work with 2048x2048 textures, though got maximum resolution of 1024x800@16bit.

6) Only really make-able games with 3DGS are - IMO - indoor first-person-shooters

Then again, after trying out about 30 different engines, it's most easiest thing to start with around our universe. It takes only a magician to make magic, software doesn't mean much if magician is good.
So good luck!

I suggest 3impact, though there's far too little info about it available. Still, worth a look.

If you're talking about adventure games, well -

People who can't figure out what to do with RAR are probably very young generation - who usually isn't attracted to adventure genre at all, or simply too stupid and not worth being worried about. These people won't get to play your game anyway, and won't figure rar-thing out even if you'd add long tutorial along with link or a whole  video about how to unpack the game. I wouldn't care so much.

Who gets rar open, gets to play the game.
Who won't, isn't probably wanting enough so hell with them.

If I was you, I wouldn't care too much about everyone to learn to use computer or archiving program.
Also, I'd make a simple webpage where is both the game link and line like:

"The game is packed in RAR format, in case of problems getting it open, get an archivator from www.rarlabs.com" or something like that (erg, bad english)

Also, it's about time for you to take some time and write all the interesting stuff you saw/experienced/lived through in Middle East. A travel journal thingy or sth like that.

QuoteNow, where's my baseball bat?  Hm...

ow-ow wait for mee tooo! I'm quite pissed aswell.

There's extremely few AGS games I truly love and BJ series happen to be atleast in top three, if not the first one! Hurricane or no hurricane, need.... some.... paranormal... investigation...

Oh please do magic, Grundislav. You have serious fans waiting here!

I'd say - RAR it.
Yes, there was time when all people foolisly preferred ZIP over internet, but it's about to end, at least I have noticed much more rar packs everywhere. .ACE may be the one not everyone could open yet, but RAR has became at least as popular as zipping. Plus, it's smaller AND can have split volumes, which is like - first thing a packer should be able to do! fuck zip

Matter of taste?

My PC is also my TV, radio, alarm clock, CD/DVD player, stereo system etc, all packed in one. Computer nerd thing, you know. Only external everyday technology I use (exactly because PC can't be carried around) are cellphone and mp3 player.
This is getting offtopic... but I'm not either claiming myself 100% right or try to move the masses towards my opinion. The topic was "Things that annoy you about games" and thinking about that I spent alot of hard-earned money a year ago - to get what I have and I have to spend it AGAIN because minimal requirements are doubled in a year  - well surely does annoy me. As well as weird craze about consoles.
I just decided to talk about it, express opinion/share feelings... no need to rate my personality or start a mission because of that now.

QuoteI don't understand what the problem is here, unless your computer is a 10 year old windows 95 with 64 mb of ram and a 3-gig hard drive, most of those games work fine.

Neither of the games I named DO NOT work fine on my not-10-years-old 2GHz 512 RAM Geforce5700-128mb-video 120-gig HD system. I think that it's about 70% of the overall machine power you can still afford at computer store right now. If you're not a millionaire, of course. But computer games aren't so important to become one for them. Not fine, not at all! For example, Far Cry produced about 12 fps at all settings lowest and Boiling point... well, 2 fps max. This is NOT normal.

QuoteConsole "hype" isn't hype. Console games generally sell way more units than PC games.

I know that. They can't be pirated, or at least not that easily, which means more profit and also why developers like them more, I guess. But why people prefer consoles? What so damn good about them? Ease of use, no brains needed? Well, that's unprogressive (not good for human race advancement) movement which justifies my negativity a bit?
You can keep all your games together in PC, modify them, update, make your system better at low cost, so on. You can always plug TV and controller into your PC and whoa, PC and console all in one!
Why be stupid? You can't check email, do homework or watch  pr0n listen/make music on your console, but it costs about as much as PC! Hell, can't live without XBOX version of some crappy game, aye, download an emulator!

But I keep my freedom to get extremely ignorant, angry and nerdishly immature whenever anyone mentions these damn consoles. I admit it and still I hate them. bah!

Two things:

1) minimal requirements - in modern games, they're insulting! But only if the game isn't worth it. Problem is, IMO, it happens 95% of the time!!! Anyone heard about Doom3 for example? Boiling Point (OMFG, worst of them all!)? Far Cry? This isn't even funny  >:(

2) Console hype. WHAT is with games and consoles? Does really some casual PS2-arse seek internet for all these PS2/XBOX/GameCube/<insert pointless console here> cheats/reviews/blah-blah-whatever-else? There's too much console trash around web and stores. If I'd want to sit infront of TV and play console games with friends, I'd choose either NES or SNES. Or, just maybe Sega. That's classic, good console gaming. Without 3D graphics and other things that ruin the atmosphere. That's what computers are made for. Also, modern games are usually buggy, half-finished and fucked up in other ways, and you can't have any patches for console! Not to mention, moving around in 3D-environment using a joystick/pad is pain in the @¤"%!

Advanced Technical Forum / GlobalInt bug
Sun 23/10/2005 06:37:40
I think I found a tiny buglike issue:

Faulty code like

if (GetGlobalInt(100==2))

Won't generate any errors, though it could.
I slipped such thing into my code and spent hours to find out what's wrong, because game compiled normally and everything worked, exept that code bug, which AGS simply ignored.

(AGS 2.71b, Don't know if it's fixed in latest version)

Also, which globalints are reserved? I didn't find any info in manual, though debug console shows that there's some for cursor modes and other things?  ???

Well, if I'd zip all my unfinished games together and release commercially as a "loser pack" for laughs, this could even generate some profit...

Still, making games is a timewasting hobby. How much income could all these nights hours produce at real job!

Making AGS-games and making any profit is a myth*.... an utopic dream of almost any AGSer and I'm not sure, but no-one hasn't made it come true yet.

Only one who is currently able to make big bucks via AGS is probably CJ. But he prefers love to money, as it seems. Which is great.

* - It wouldn't be utopic at all 10 years ago, I'm referring to present day

Sergei Shnurov - "Mobilnik"
Theme for Russian gangster movie "Bimmer"...

Most original theme I've heard. Fits well with movie too.

I also love the theme for German TV-series about highway police, "Alarm füare Cobra 11", but don't know who composed it.

edit: TXT-spelling stupidly makes "are" out of "r-letter"

So... Maybe you simply want more serious version?
*Still*, airbrushing is not needed. My version - 6 colors

Farlander, keep him nude if you want him nude, obviously you know that already.

Ow, come on. It's a little adventure game, not some fancy piece of art.

My suggestion: Pirate WOMAN, not entirely nude but with torn clothes and sexy look.

Who's with me? :D
#2057
I love this BG and remember it from CL...

But about nudity - hide this weenie. It's not about ethics and nude or not nude thing, but personally, I find that just gross.
I don't want to play a game with nude men in it!
Then again, some women... hmm  ;)

Depends on price, I guess.
Though the graphics is blocky by today's standards and in a game titled as "interactive movie" it counts a lot, everything else in this game purely rocks.
#2059
He's seriously missing some thought put into him before you started to draw -- How are you going to animate him?

I suggest less, but better chosen colors. Look what krysis did - 3 colors, but shaded as hell.
