Floor needs color!
This pale yellow does not qualify as "color".

I'd suggest something like dark blue/cyan/brown or similar.
Maybe dark green would fit too. Current one just catches eye too much and feels somewhat non-neutral/too important to look at though it's just a gui. I may sound really weird here, but there's no other way to describe my feelings while looking at the gui.

I tried with dark yellow(orangeish) tone and it did look better, though this cool winking smiley there didn't stick out so nicely anymore.

I'd show a paintover if my damned machine wasn't compiling lightmaps my new counter-strike map for last 4 hours, thus blocking everything else ;)

EDIT: New one is alot better.

Hah, It's great!  :D

But I'd change the green color of the big bar to something else, less distracting from the indicators&stats.

This color should be less saturated and calm so other things would stick out more.

General Discussion / InC's TC: A tablet
Fri 15/04/2005 23:54:55
Well, after seeing what magic Andail and many others do with a wacom, I decided to get one of these to myself.
But!

* I don't know much about tablets. In matter fact, I've never seen or used such things at all!
* I've heard that anything other than a Wacom is a waste of money
* The prices of wacoms here range from $60  to $3770, and this scares me. Why so huge difference?

I was thinking about this one: Wacom CTE-430/B1 Wacom Graphire3 Studio, Pen set/ Steel Blue, A6, USB, at the price of about $145 (Which is close to maximum I could spend unless I want my parents to start to worry about my sense(less): Even this will be the buy they will never understand)

Is such tablet okay?
Or there's no much difference between cheaper and more expensive ones, just some design/extra button ones, which won't actually change much, so I could buy cheaper one instead?

Any tips on buying?
What are the specialities/extra stuff/characteristics I need to keep in mind/ ask for?

I see no problems with the forest, it's just as dark and deep as it should in such deserted scene.

But the hills at the both sides of road really do seem weird.
I'd imagine them much higher, first.

Second, humans rarely force the road into hills, it's usually more like that the road goes where hills "allow" it to go (people pick the easiest way to cross the landscape). I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain: in your case, it looks like someone just digged the hills so there can be road.

Apart from that, the scene looks very good. I'd love to see the final (properly outlined&colored) version!

General Discussion / Re: Microsoft sucks

"MS does suck"
"MS doesn't suck"

gah!

Come on, they once made a monster named Windows ME... and sold it to thousands unsuspecting happy computer users.
It would be okay, if these f**king stupid advertising (encouraging? :D) messages during installation would tell more truth...

"Windows got just better"
PLUS!
"It now shows you random errors about COMCTL32.DLL whenever you start to think that all this crap really works"
OR
"The new roll-dice-and-if-got-six-you-get-no-error system guarantees you normal and bugfree startups about 1/6th of the times you boot windows."
ETC.

These unsuspecting users are not happy anymore.

Nothing more has to be said.

Ah, here's my first, inexperienced, lousy n00b entry...
I'm not sure if it even fits within the rules.

QuoteYou just like him because he has furry underwarez

And a logo of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword on his chest, same colors too.
It was order of knights who dedicated their lives to killing non-christian Estonian and Latvian people in 13th century, during a big crusade in Baltics.

It's quite weird to see the logo we studied whole schooltime in history lessons - on a superhero's chest.

Powerful and interesting it is... but not very comfortable I think.
I tried it few years ago and never really got to like this.

It has still less power than big-expensive-commercial-programs but is somewhat more complicated than... Adobe PS for example.

I especially liked the chance to spraypaint predefined brush at random angle, opacity and color, this was mega useful.

Okay, since I'm having headache techache all the time enough to write a book, I'll share the knowledge of everything that usually goes wrong...

* electricity*

Try unplugging power from some drives - if you have more stuff than just one HD and one CDROM, there can be not enough power for whole junk. Sounds impossible, but I have witnessed (and cursed!) it more than enough.

Also, check that your case has enough Watts to feed the motherboard. 300W should be standard right now, if i'm not mistaken. This may happen if you bought new motherboard and installed it to older case, which has less power.

* IDE cables*

As everyone told, faulty boot happens usually when some of IDE cables are incorrectly installed. Which is still most likely where you messed up. Try turning IDE cables around (both on motherboard and drives, since not ALL drives go by standard "red/black marked line side towards power cable") and see if that works, it should be safe (of course, double-think/consult someone smarter before trying, but i have tried such thing like hundred times and nothing bad happened).

* motherboard LED *

I bought my motherboard a year ago and it has 2-digit LED display on it. Check if yours have such thing. It's very useful, when you boot, it shows a number or letters. These are start-up-fail codes, which are explained in motherboard's manual. This helps to determine the problem.

* raw test *

Unplug all drives, unneccessary cards and try then.

* BIOS battery *

See if it's inserted and correctly, maybe turn it around?

* RAM *

Try different slots, also if having more than 1 chip, leave only one inside and try.

* hardware testing *

If possible, try all cards, RAM and drives out in some other computer, to see if they work and didn't get damaged during assembly.

* Conflicting video cards *

Does motherboard have onboard video? If so, remove other card and try.

* Faulty motherboard *

Buy a shotgun & hockey mask and go back to the store where you bought the board.

EDIT: Oh, and there's a fancy thing called Central Processing Unit, that has to be fitted onto motherboard  ;)
So... Is CPU inserted correctly?
Does CPU fit the motherboard? (and not just "um, it went in" but technically compatible too?)

Favourite? The ones that trigger funny cutscenes, there's too many of them to name. Well, wearing a bigfoot costume in Sam&Max was one of the most funny ones.

Hated? All mazes. If they can be named as "puzzles". Also, all puzzles which can't be explained in walkthrough.
To name some, the chemistry puzzle in Shadow Of The Comet was really painful.

...And I also mention these effin' stone rings in Indy...  >:(

Ouch! My head hurts more than after finishing Grim Fandango.
This cartoonier-than-cartoons! style isn't universally likeable, I guess.

Quite cool game it is... but.... it's for kids.

AND, every time MacGyver comes up in some of our threads, someone wants to make a game.
I've seen no game yet!

Here's tribute to my childhood hero...

Long hair, big white sneakers, pilot's jacket...
It's too easy to guess!

ouch.
Well, the server is actually superfast, it's weird, but not the first time i hear that some people won't get any speed there.

Depends on location and/or ISP, I guess.  I edited my competitive post and added a mirror (at 2dadventure.com) for those who can't see the pic.

Aw, shucks  >:(

Do I recognize this comedian from some LSL game?
And if so, where can I apply for my cookie?

If using ninjas to make tree animating cooler isn't cheating...
If you act "mature" and "16-years old" and won't call me psycho behind my back...
If you DO have something better than 56K modem...
If 2 hours per animation wasn't against the rules...
If my anim fits in the rules at all...

...let me present...

For those who have trouble with server, there's a mirror:
