It looks good.
Backgrounds have a bit of this unharmonic feeling - as it's always with 3D+2D or photo compositions, but overall, it's not a big problem. Are they 3D-renders or photo compos? Either way, I suggest to use strong shadows(!) and soft colored lights/filters in rooms, to balance the overall color tone and strong atmospheric differences that textures give.

..or the people who hire don't know how to turn on computer at all!

At least where I live, key figures behind IT companies (personnel workers or simply managers)  are only able to read email or find pr0n. They don't know what they really need, so they trust papers.

Papers...

You may be a Mozart nowadays, but if you have no paper where it's written, no one lets you near the piano.

Of course, much depends on yourself.

What I have learned during my short life is - getting a job where you want - through Internet goes like this: you seek for the place, but instead of applying CV and waiting (often forever), you just pick up the phone (or even go there) - ignoring all the requirements you don't have - and charm the employer with your confident and pragmatic speech. This is only way it works. And may give instant results.
Sometimes the manager isn't too exited about getting through all those received applications/cv's too, especially if there's someone standing in front of him with this "want me to work for you? let's get the work done!"- attitude. Why bother?

Well, It's quite clear that you know your stuff -- with so little pixel count you have done a good job.

About that leg -- i'd pull his left leg a pixel back to give him a bit more relaxed stance - and maybe right one too, like this:

I also moved his head a pixel forward.
This (at least) *should* give him more challenging and aggressive pose - if that was what you're going for.

I don't like the way his stomach is pulled in, it seems like he's not confident but more like afraid to get bullied any second... then again, I didn't manage to fix this any way.

Er... Crits Lounge is wrong place for this indeed, few lazily made stickmen isn't anything to criticize, neither is your "remix" of centuries old joke... which has been used SOOO much in tv shows and cartoons...

This game rocks!
Graphics may be a bit too blurry and 1 - 4 frames isn't what I'd call an animation, but classic music, funny plot & mixed with nonsense makes it fun.
It's a quick (finished it in about 15-20 minutes) "mood repairing" program... I'd like to see sad/angry person who will stay in same mood after playing this game a little bit.
Great work.

He's missing a nose...
and his left foot doesn't support him standing.

But apart from that, this is a very well drawn character.
Good job!

Main reason why i never ask perspective help are these lines people draw everywhere onto my pic - which mostly confuse me instead of helping   ;)
Well, I believe I got it this time... or not?

I think that the bg is quite ready. I'm also afraid to spend too much time onto a single background, because it usually stops whole game development at some point. For me, that is.

As a perfectionist, there's never anything really ready for me, and every tomorrow I can do same thing better than today. blah-blah-blah, to cut the long story short - I'm just never statisfied enough with anything to release it and announce it "finished".

That's why I'm not going to perfection this time.
That's why I rarely post my own works at CL -- it starts the neverending remaking process. Until i had enough with whole thing.

Well, to make a bunch of outdoor bg's, I needed a good sky/sea/road colors to start with, so this bg (and help) served
it's purpose very well.

I made whole thing onto poskrito's edit, hope he won't mind.

QuoteAny details on what game this is going to be in, if any?

er... I'm not supposed to make any games, I'm tied with KQ2.5 and Hamlet v2! And my long-done project Trippin'!, of course.
But I came onto an idea to make fourth part of my saga games of a 17-year old friend Henri (a game with same name). Unfortunately, they were released only in estonian language and AGSers (except for Eigen, who is Estonian too, maybe) are not familiar with those.

I'm very glad that I was able to express myself so well this time -- poskrito understood perfectly - and did a wonderful paintover!
Now it feels excactly as it was in my head.

As the sidewalk goes, well, asphalt is quite black where I live -- and my whole neighborhood is made of post-soviet buildings like this. A "concrete jungle" as locals call this part of city. Buildings, made in the haste of perestroika - actually are very low quality, not standing up perfectly 90 degrees vertical and so on. So - my perspective may not be so bad after all... Leftmost part of building still needs a 1-pixel lift upwards, i think.

I'm going to lighten road up a bit though.

QuoteI'm finding it extremely difficult to make suggestions as the background's very high quality as is.

I'm not sure should I take this as  a compliment or joke -- This background took me only 40 minutes to draw, and most of things are products of lucky mouse click, not skill.

Thank you, guys.

Well, here.

I'm quite statisfied with the overall pic, but colors somewhat suck. They are... er... sick?
Sky, flats, grass... it just won't mix somehow. Sky color makes me feel like there's a summer day and there's thunderstorm coming soon.

Is there any way to improve overall color harmony?

P.S. Don't pay attention to a bit wacky perspective, it's drawn "by eye" and no vanishing points etc was used. And I don't want to - I think that I'm not good enough to aim for full realism. So let it be a little wacky.

But colors, colors...

Right. To avoid enourmous threads like this, let's add "sexual orientation"  to the agsforums registration! Something like

Are you:

* hetero-
* bi-
* homosexual, or...
* in the closet yet?

Then we have a clear picture.
Just imagine if there's really 250 guys around there to come out from closet one day! with all the debates along! d-d-disaster! Forums would be down again for a week. And then again...  :'( 250 times in a row?
#2431
This just plainly, simply sucks.
No, not the logos, they're nice.

500â,¬ for drawing a logo? I don't earn this much for a whole month of hard work! 10 minutes of random vector-based paint program....  >:( >:( >:(

For 500â,¬, I'd tattoo a logo onto my ass.
Er... well, not for 500 euros, but for a possibility to get such cool job assignments (so well paid).

Pretty nice indeed. I can only suggest how to make it better...

Work on outline color.
* Brown outlines on eyes - you may use black there instead
* Brown outline on nose - I don't know, it just won't fit there
* lips outline... just few tones brighter and it will do
* black outline everywhere else - no-no

* also, the proportions (sp?) - nose and the size of nostril -- seem either wrong or your friend has remarkable nose.

* Hair could and should leave a little shadow where it falls onto face. It would add 3D-ey and more realistic effect.

Well, that'll be all. Of course, extra two or three shadow/highlight tones would get closer to realism and overall beauty, but... it's stylish enough already.

Weak!
Just ask someone to get what you want and upload somewhere or  even better - write a CD. As a dial-upper you'll save on internet bill too.

Major time goes under:

* character animations
* background drawing
* assembling whole game (linking up all resources in AGS with scriptwork)

Of course, music/sound making, dialogs, etc take much time too.

There's no way that a game - i mean a game, can be done in less than a month. Even with a large team.
But there's not that big difference between 4 and 10 room game, or similar length changes: the month goes anyway, if the basis is made, adding extra rooms/puzzles/characters/etc will go faster.

Team shouldn't be too big. About 2 or 3 artists, each doing their own thing (one for BGs, one for characters, one for other things, such as GUIs). Otherwise, when many artists do same thing, styles  collapse and outcome is rarely anything good or harmonic.

This is absolutely different for music, as long musicians are all at about same level of skills-experience. Different styles make game often more interesting.

So, hard work lies in graphics and coding. The planned quality of game and it's look will depend on how much people and time will be put into these two.

The problem is in almighty MS servers being down. I blamed it on MSN 7.0 beta and erased it to re-download & reinstall old reliable 6.3

But - whoa - http://messenger.msn.com has became even more worhtless piece of shit than it was before.

Most likely they doubled all the stupid crap they have there, such as MSN Today, travel, weight loss, etc junk no sane person ever reads and got servers burning down.   :P

sometimes it connects, some other not. Most likely same thing with sign-in.

"your contact list isn't available at the moment"
"please check your internet connectivity"

No offense taken- and thank you for ideas.

At personal level, I'm happy to find any way to work around, just if it isn't too complicated. I'm working on a KGB template (interesting interaction verbs, smart pointer system and as cool inventory screen makes KGB's GUIs my favourite)... maybe even add a new (fan)game onto template later ;)

But simplifying of making such things as a suggestion?
Yeah, why not? There's hundreds of adventure games out there, and I believe that there's much more games (including LSL7 and KGB), which use similar approach... if 1994 year game can do it, why not AGS?
I guess that even something like RawDrawRectangleTransparent(x1,y1,x2,y2,color,opacity) would work perfectly here.
But it sounds much easier to have just it in the GUI editor.

Besides, it looks cool.
#2438
QuoteI haven't used it but there is the SetGUITransparency() function in V2.62.  In the upcomming V2.7 version the function is replaced with the property GUI.Transparency.

... which, In both versions, 2.62 and 2.7b12 does not work at all, at least I didn't get it to work. Not on text windows! Most likely transparency function doesn't affect text window only, yet it works fine with other guis.

And... even if it worked? would text be transparent too?  :P
#2439
Well, I have suggested something similar before...

After looking through manual, I didn't manage to find any function for raw drawing a rectangle at specified opacity, neither a sprite with set transparency. Text-window gui's cannot be made transparent.

What I have tried to make, for a long time, is a text window like in the game named KGB...

Is there any way to implement a thing like this in AGS? All my tries to figure out how to make text window transparent or engineer my own textwindow function - have failed miserably.

Basically, just making text window background image transparent, would work. In higher resolution games, it also helps to make just 1 pixel black 'n' transparent grid pattern . but at 320x240, this doesn't look very good. :(

Only way I fgured out, was to put transparent OBJECT into EVERY room and enabling it whenever text is being displayed...
Well, this is way too complicated and pointless. Plus, it does not resize itsself according to the amount of text!

If there's a way to do that, any help would be appreciated.
If not - I don't believe that's too hard to implement in AGS...
if more AGS users would find such thing useful, of course.

I LOVE the second one! Things like this are great. Color tones, nifty little details, superb.

I like the fifth one. One-toned and non-disturbing. Prefect for a wallpaper.

First one is okay. Diablo font  feels too used and unoriginal.

Third one makes my eyes bleed. Too golden.

Fourth one... if Poser hadn't so ruined imago...
