Whee, gay... how did you find out, anyway?

I just don't get the whole gay thing... and most likely never will.
It's fine with me, by standardised condition - "as long no-one touches MY arse".
Then again, seeing two guys making out in a bus is quite disgusting for me...

Someone's sexual orientation doesn't mean much in these forums anyway.

* thinks about Mittens

Huh.

Aiee, why not nuke them all?

* Everyone sees power of U.S.
* No problematic Middle East no more
* Cheap, no army & machinery to maintain
* No unhappy US soliders
* No thanks-bonds to other helping countries
* No (living) witnesses
* Bastards get what they deserve
* Innocents won't live to complain about it
* No-one dares to criticize president after that - "want some too?!"
* No more bastards will be born in next few centuries

I should become a presidental advisor.

...speakers are about to give up soon...

I had no idea that there's so much metal/rock listeners at AGSForums.

Well, so I differ.

Well, I might just be incredibly stupid, but I just can't manage to make a semi-transparent text gui!

I did set game's resolution to 16-bit.
I did made game to use text windows on my gui.
I used SetGuitransparency (ags 2.6) command to make gui 50% transparent.

Nope, not transparent.
What gui background color should I use? Does transparency apply only to GUI's with backgground images?
Will text be transparent too?
What did I do wrong?

I basically need my textwindow gui just to be a big semitransparent black box with white text on it. No border images or anything.

* road gets too thin for such a small distance. Look at the y- coordinates for tree and road -- even BEFORE passing the tree, road is already extra thin and "far away". this looks so wrong.
* hanging lights don't light anything...  and you should put more glow to them
* color coice is quite excellent, and so is overall amtosphere
* where's the sunset?
* sky talks about cloudy and rainy weather. why not add puddles to the road? water drops to the leaves? wet look to everything?

Excuse my language, but...

This is goddamn excellent!

The photorealistic quality of textures made me think that it's some hardcore photo arranging job we have there. But 3D? can't be better!

Low resolution - which comes with bad case of antialiasing - blurs everything down enough to fit hand-drawn characters into the otherwise too sharp and clear 3D scene. If it isn't just crappy JPG compression here, of course.
Though the idea isn't something revolutionary or new, the way it's performed here is clearly the best example I have seen.
The realistic-like character style from Indiana Jones also hits with full effect. Federikazzo somehow managed to overcome most frequent problems when integrating 2D and 3D. If it's because of experience, I can't admire more. If luck -- go get yourself a lottery ticket!
Amazing. For me - especially, since I've tried many times to do something similar and yet, never succeeded enough to be statisfied with result.

Ok, now crits:

* Lights!  The room is too dark, the street has not enough non-natural light sources. But the little room with staircase is perfect, in my opinion.
* Blur! Still try to clean up here and there by hand, because antialiasing isn't very good on very thin objects, such as light (reflection) on room's ceiling, the sign of market at the street, the blurred staircase (blurry focus is a good idea, but still needs a bit cleaning)
* shadows! Make some for street things, such as tree, rail and so on.

You're definelty on right way. Just... save your screenshots as PNG! You can do this in MSPaint, for example. It's pity to see perfect artwork messed up by JPG compression.

* sand. You could add a bit of graininess look to it.
* sand. Maybe a bit stronger shading wouldn't hurt. I looks like desert night/late evening/early morning/not mid-day and this should mean lot stronger shadows/shading than you used.
* other - stonger shading here too
* lights - add some cool lights to the sign, you already drew the lamps
* lights - everything that casts light, should do it powerfully. Like windows, for example
* road - It's hard to believe that desert planet has so well maintained roads... in middle of nowhere.  cracks and tire tracks would work two ways - fixing it and adding detail

Overall, as you've read my suggestions, you clearly see that there's acutally nothing important to suggest or criticize - you've done a superb job already!

Blade's right. This is weird stuff with your ex...
You're able to write your whole story here, with every word yelling "I'm doing wrong!", make hundreds of people read and understand the message too, but are not able to make yourself believe this... and stop it.

I'd suggest you to skip the search for non-painful ways to totally break up with the woman. Like dating someone else, remaining "friends", still being/travelling together, etc. Feeding the false hopes.

Just tell her goodbye at a moment. Then separate, and fucking suffer, cry, whatever... until it's over. Until you realize that it's over. Until hopes die.

Then It's time to go on.

I love them!
About time get rid of those ugly yellow circles.
And though auhsor once already did it, I didn't like the bigger faces.
These here are perfect.

CS is a mixture of many different things.
For example, in Unreal Tournament you first search for weapon/armor, then battle, if you win - get powerups/yourself patched up again and seek next enemy.
In CS, the weapon and armor you buy lasts until you die. Other weapons can be aquired from battlefield, but it's much more difficult.

Also, you have your only life and when you're dead, you're dead. So you have to keep yourself alive until end of the round.

The weapons, are very different too. To get a gun which increases your chances to survive -  you have to play well. Or - have a strong team(work), which wins. In UT, Quake or other typical fps, even weakest n00b can pick up a rocket launcher and sell hordes of enemies to hell. But not here. Alternative is only to be really good/lucky sniper and make headshots with weakest pistol. But this is hardly possible for a weak player.

Each round starts by guessing which way enemies come from, and right decision is followed by ambush and great battle. In other games, people just randomly seek&destroy.

The tactical and strategical aspects of this game is what makes CS-S good. Er... this - and bumpmapping & ragdoll physics  :D

Steam works fine, in my opinion. Right, it's quite slow and annoying, but it does the game updating for you so there's no moments (unlike other games) where your try to connect to a server ends up with message that your copy of game is outdated.
And then seeking for patch.

Very similar to this game is America's Army, I played it for some time, but I've always thought that UT's engine is most slow and unreliable thing in the world. In matter fact, it is. UT, Rune, Devastation... whatever the game is, menus work bad, game lags and whole thing doesn't work too well. So - bah.

Source engine runs just fine. And is quite pretty too.
At least every multiplayer FPS fan should give it a try before taking any opinion.

Oh. That function.
Thanks.

I wanted to ask (and supposed it's the right forum for this):

How does engine handle translation files? Is there some variable containing translation textfile's name passed to game?

For example, I have some GUI icons. With text over them (drawn, not gui elements). If I'd draw several copies of GUI verb icons with different languages, is there any way to make game change them according to the language selected from game setup?

I know how to change, but just don't know can I, or how to check which translation file is in the use at the moment.

I hope my question is understandable...  :P

Well, at the time I'm not doing things I'm supposed to do (sleep, eat, progress my own game, have a life, etc), I play CS: Source alot. Yes, the one that came with Half-Life2. It's pretty much social game. With strangers, everybody just run around and shoot each other. With known teamies... well, people make agreements first how, where and when  run and shoot.

Since none of my friends have this game (Estonia, country that can be aswell named Kazaa or eMule) and pirated copies won't work anyway, I really have no-one to play together with. Just browsing random servers all the time and hardly get to play as a team with anyone.

Are there any AGSers in CS universe? If so, under what nickname and in which servers do you hang in most?

I usually go by the name InCreator or InC, and don't have a resident server yet. Just picking by player count and map I like.

Ah, and from n00b scale 0-10 I'm near about -15 :D

Wow, Petteri will be turned into a human war machine! :o

Actually, after first 2-3 months, after you get used to routline and your squad, you will get bored as hell.
Then again, if that time comes, restrictions get really low, my friend who is also serving right now, spends most of his day sitting in internet and chatting. You will get more home then too.

Good luck to you, though I think it's a big waste of precious time, I just had to tell psychiatrist what an anti-social game maker I am and how great time it is right now when I finally found a job and getting a life - "Okay, go continue your life" is what she said. And wrote "not acceptable" to the commission paper.
