Also try to shut down ATX features:
Fiddle around with BIOS and try to disable soft-pwr-off button and anything else that makes shutting down the computer to be windows compatible: if it fixes anything - problem is in software.

This sounds more like mechanical problem.

* check the wall outlet where your computer is plugged in. maybe it's broken and has bad connection? This happened to me once: the plastic parts inside outlet were broken and even typical lamp blinked randomly few times per hour. sometimes, when plugging cord out, sparkles flew around!

* what else is plugged into outlet? Big energy-consuming devices such as refridgerators, TVs, electric heaters and so on - may cause your problem aswell.

* or maybe it's the power itsself coming from stations what is overloaded? try to notify the time when self-reboot does happen: does it happen during nighttime too?

* look behind your computer: are the cables messed up?

* And check if your computer case power (measured in Watts) is enough for the motherboard: 300W is standard nowadays and should cause no problems.

Ridiculous.

Dark stories are good.

Something is wrong here.

"I want 2 make a gaem/game company and get rich and famous but i cant cuz i cant draw or script or maek music1!1!! ??? ??? ???
could some1 plzz maek game for me??  ???"

This is what happens sometimes.
But now what?

"to start a production team, not just for my game, but just to make quality games, they can be any size or genre let's just make em!"
"let's see if we can actually create some fun and stylish games to play/make!"

I like it. The attitude. Motivating along with request.

FruitTree, I wish you luck. Even if AGSers are too busy with their own games/work/school and you're not able to get enough people together, you could still be really successful as a salesman, movie producer or even military general.

You should expand your idea, to get more (positive) responses. Plan whole thing. Tell what quality/size/style/story? game your team should start with, how you imagine whole thing working, how team communicates, etc.
Be more specific.

And It may even work. Your start impressed some people, I believe. Carry on.

Thanks for replies so far!
But there's a problem...
...no firewire.

I can STREAM video directly via USB to comp with many progs, just can't get to the stuff recorded onto cassette (MiniDV).

I ALSO have this S-something video cable which connects cam to computer (video card), but this doesn't seem to do anything.

I have Win XP.

It doesn't show camera as removable device. It just detects it when plugged in by USB. I installed some sony USB drivers too, so it recognizes the cam. It does.

Just no way to browse the tape in camera.
Goddamn.

General Discussion / A problem! :(

Problem is like this:
I got a video cam yesterday, neat one, Sony Handycam DCR-TRV14E but since it is used, I have no software to capture my video creations! :(

The program that was supposed to come with cam is named ImageMixer. There's no possible way to get it anywhere, unless I buy it!

Question is:
How could I get videos from cam to computer?
Is there any other programs (FREELY downloadable) to do the trick?
Or can I get ImageMixer from somewhere?

Adobe Premiere 6.5 doesn't support the cam and all I could get was insta-recording into machine but this needs cam to be connected all the time. With 1.5m cable, It isn't much fun. Especially since I don't have a laptop.

...
a kazoo
...
DUCT TAPE??
...

Kazoo (whatever THAT is) - if I remember correctly - was name of a flea in "Goblins 3". And he was used as pick-up-able inventory item.

Where did I see duct tape for the last time? Some AGS game probably...

There ARE MP3>Midi converters out there.
And they WORK WELL, in few rare cases. But it depends more on a song. Songs with lots of piano melodies, high sounds, etc have probability to get successful conversion.

There was even some kind of winamp 2.x plugin to write song into MIDI format, though it sucked. Unfortunately I can't give you any names or links. You have to search them by yourself.

Mystery becomes clearer...
Google'ing more....

Yeah, "fuse". That's what I thought and meant, and I KNEW the word, as every adventuregamer knows - from millions of games having fuses as inventory items. It's just my bad memory... I'm getting old, I guess.
But they are not fuses.

They ARE thermometers, or to be more precise, "sensors" as they are called more often.

Damn, I'll promise to never buy latest technology anymore. It's easier to delay few years and then just ask random guy how and what.

Now I'm having hard time to figure out how to get BIOS recognize this crap...

Currently, it seems impossible. Some old AWARDBIOS on my motherboard, no setting seems to be right one and for the ones I'm not sure about - are enabled anyway.
Maybe update my BIOS?
#2592
I thought so at the first. But if they WERE thermometers, my LED should show some numbers, even without them placed anywhere.
#2593
Well, few weeks ago I bought a new case (chassis?) for my computer. With neat LED display mounted onto case which is supposed to show temperatures for processor, HD and system overall, changed with switchable button.

Since I made the buy, I haven't seen a single display from the LED. I connected almost every piece of wire and read motherboard manual enough to make its pages soft like toilet paper is. Well, no luck yet.

There's two types of wires still disconnected and I have no idea where to stick them.

First case:
power wire, exactly like the one coming from CPU cooler and other fans - power cable with small white end.
Since there's no fans on front panel of case, I have no idea why there's this cable. I tried to insert it into "system fan" and "additional fan" slots on motherboard, neither changed anything. There's no more places to fit it into.

And second case - the real mystery:
There's also three black wires coming from front panel which end with strange orange-colored thingy. Transparent piece of plastic with a wire inside. It's hard to explain so I drew it.

There's three of them, and each one has a label, "CPU", "HDD" and "SYS".
Now, It's pretty obivious that they're someway connected to the LED. But they doesn't look like they could be plugged anywhere!

If they were just some "protectors" erm... (crappy english) these things that burn out instead of burning whole system in case of errors in electric circuit - as they actually seem to be - why were they attached to 40cm wire then?

I also tried to photograph them, but my camera hates them as much as I do, and refused to focus onto them - it focused on anything else, leaving THEM blurred. Well, here's the pic anyway.

1) How do I get my LED to work?
2) What are these three damned wires?

Since I probably get no responses to this thread, I'll keep trying to solve the mystery.

P.S. The case I bought had no documentation, no well-known name and not even link to manufacturers website, so no help there.Ã,  :P
#2594
Well, I'm not sure even myself.
I've tried to make a 3d game about billion times, as much as I tried to modelÃ,  a human character that reacts normally to biped.

Body part comes about normally (except making a lifelike butt),
main problem is head and bendable sections on limbs.

If I could get my 3d modelling going - finally, I'm sure I'd find a nice place to use these skills.

I fell in love with movie-making too - recently, so...
#2595
Hey, thanks.
This chick looks good... though as I have always modelled at polygon sublevel (noted now that i used word "face" at first post - this is wrong), these faces around mouth and ears confuse me a bit...
I have some 3ds models, but just examining the model won't actually teach much...  :(
Never tried tutorial videos, downloading some now!
#2596
Well, yes.
Is there any good low-poly head (real-like, not cartoony) modelling tutorials for 3ds max?

I'm able to produce only a head with high polygon count, building every face by hand - which may look pretty, but is actually good-for-nothing. Especially when making a game.

I've searched internet often, but haven't found anything simple, yet good looking. Tutorials are too n00b or so complicated that things get out of hand already by step three or some other problems like that.

Making a head from geosphere isn't looking too good neither.

Sprite looks lovely.
Can't say same about the closeup, though.
I could find few things to pick on with both pics, but --
this just is your style and it has to be exactly as it is right now. With all it's good and bad sides.
Good work. Keep it up.

See at Hackers II too. It's EVEN worse.
It's quite hilarious - even offending how these Hollywood guys picture hackers, crackers, computer and cyberpunk related people overall, etc to world.

It seems like they all should have nose rings, rainbow colored punkstyle hair and rollerskates. And men should look extremely gay. And dance every night at some warehouse to something Hollywood considers "rave" but really isn't one. Isn't anything, really. Not music.

Yuck.

Well, I hate to say this - but your room, my friend - is what people call "crap". Even a 4-year old kid can pull few black lines in MSPaint and fill the shapes with random colors. It's quite difficult to call it an art. And handle as it was, including commenting and criticism.

Draw this room at least 15 times. Every time starting from scratch. With furniture, perspective and everything. Recolor every time, trying to use various colors and making most things with one color, just changing the tone to shade things.

about 15th version - if you DO put effort in all of the 15 rooms - should be enough to get some crits already, because you're only at the start of a long road right now.

I'd also suggest you to try with photos. Google around for a photo of some room (or take one by yourself), keep it as reference and try to redraw it with your own hand.

In other words, practise. There's also big list of tutorials at the start of this forum. Take a look there, too.

How to cure feet in 10 seconds

Actually, when working on feet, you have to rest them after every few hours, like massage or stretch them or walk around or something like that. To keep blood moving and rest muscles. Breathing fresh air should help too, because it helps to move oxygen around the body, included feet. Which is good.

Have you tried to put something under your legs for night to raise them higher, like a pillow for example? I've heard it works for some people.

Also, consider some good medicaments (creams) made for athletes. They usually help.
