General Discussion / Startpage

I'm having this startpage virus for few months now, and I'm pretty tired of it. (The one which changes my IE homepage always to search-for-you.com)

What should I do? I've been through internet seeking for something that removes it, but best results are some progs which won't run under win XP.

AVG antivirus that i use behaves like it's eyes are tied, "no infections found". Yeah, right. I'm not a program and I clearly see a virus, but no, not the almighty AVG.

What should I do? There's no capital to buy some expensive antivirus prog, though I want to get this crap outta my machine.

There's another pretty weird thing happening -- my mouse cursor - the "link under cursor" one (usually a hand with finger pointed at link) changes to a "move" cursor (the one with 4 arrow pointing at each direction). Really weird. I can get normal cursors back to reapply my cursors at control panel, but after awhile, it changes again.

Hm. There was clever hint system in "Amazon: Guardians of Eden" where clicking on a hint button reduced your ingame IQ rating while giving clearest hints every time clicked.
And not to make things too easy - last chapter of the game was unplayable if you've used too many hints...

Trivia: Who helped to make this game?

- don't underestimate importance of history, because -
- There will be a day when 1992 is far away enough -
- Word "classic" will match the reality then -
- and doesn't mean just "game with prehistoric 2D graphics" -
- so people mean it when they say it -
- And these abandoned jewels will cost more than most of us could afford -
- because they're part of technology and human beings history -
- just be patient -
- and it happens. As it has happened to million other things in this universe. Maybe historians dig up a original floppy with Leisure Suit larry 1 on it with their fusion powered shovels at the year 2180 -
- and put it into a museum -
- and people come from far corners of the earth just to see it -

I have spoken.

Beta testing, Sinitrena, beta testing.

Since It's a MAGS game, you probably didn't have time to get some people to find bugs and test it through, but in the future, always do that. Much easier than uploading game again and again until most of the problems are out of the way.

As for the game, main menu picture made me laugh, and it felt like adventure game parody first.
Then -- yes, really a hero dog... amazing.
Very original and unique concept for an AGS game.

I have strange feeling that it could have HUGE popularity as a series-game, like "Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator", probably at least as much...

Who doesn't like smart dogs? :D

Your rooms are great, If you decide to make some more games, soon you'll start to pick colors more carefully (not so contrasty ones) and texture things... I guess.

So, what I wanted to say -
More!

Original rogers are better...
but I like yours too.

Still, nothing can be compared to those:

:D >:( :(

soo cute.
#2627
Yah, slow down and make frames one size.
Right now I could just say that characters body is standing too still and cramped while feet move.

Start from there.
Then add more frames.

No Roger
Not happy
>:(

Somebody could fix missing rogers at our smilies list though.

This is indeed strange thing. I don't recall downloading any games without exe file!
For an AGS game - I think this is just an exception, try with some other games.
But yes, many AGSers forget to incude configuration exefile with their games -  which is a headache sometimes, like when they have originally turned on antialiased sprites, for example...

Hm. Easiest way is to restart a computer. For newer motherboards, BIOS displays temperatures at the bottom of the screen just before booting any drives.
Another - I got some CD with my motherboard purchase, there was a program called USDM, which shows and alerts temperature/changes.

And for older computers -- temperature doesn't matter much anyway, they're built to be stable - which brings back to fact that modern age sucks as hard as this word could maximally describe.

Oi - BOYD, where did you set this AGP stuff? From BIOS?

Athlon XP 2200+, 1.8GHz here.

CPU has HUGE fan which keeps it usually at 49 degrees Celsius, but whenever I play some 3D-games, temp rises over 50 (up to 56) Celsius. Weird is that everything starts to lag then and gets very jumpy. For instance, It's absolutely impossible to play GTA3 more than 10 first minutes, though computer exceeds game's minimal requirements 2-4 times. Lousy game, i guess :x.

And video card is okay, Geforce4 64MB with a fan...

Motherboard runs at 38C-43C all the time and I never smelt any burning.

Strange indeed. Maybe It's not the computer that smells but power outlet where it's plugged in? It happened to me once. Plastic components in outlet were broken into little pieces which started to melt when I plugged in something.

0 player characters -  "normal" game?

Actually, your sky making style is pretty cool.
It's not good yet, but cool.
Do same thing, but -- try to be careful. use less different (contrasty!!) colors, a bit smaller brush size, antialiasing, and whatever else to make this sky more calm, less aggressive and more beautiful.
But for these clouds... NO. Try something different.

EDIT: Okay, I tried to edit your pic a little too. Contrast went down a bit too much, but it does look more calm now.

- redid sky (yellow sun still sucks somehow)
- smoothened road tiles
- contrast on everything else than sky down 20% (definetly too much)

My edit didn't turn out very good... :(
But maybe you'll get better idea from it what to improve or how.
#2636
QuoteIn the future, you might want to consider something known as "beta testing".

Indeed. Making a game and then improving it for ever while people have to update it every day is stupid.
It's almost like we're making the game with you together, Tanker.

Get all known bugs out, do all improvements and then - before releasing, ask few people to beta test it. This means - have them to try out whole game, find all bugs and got-stuck-places, errors and mistakes. When testing is complete too, and bugs are swept out, THEN you compile the final version and share it with greater publicity.

You need other people to do that because adventure games usually have a defined way from start to finish and ways people try to find it - are personal, so other people think differently and try alot more different things - which increases the possibilty to get stuck or fing bug in a place you would never try or expect.
#2637
Oh. The screens aren't bad, though using photos withÃ,  primitive MSPaint line-line-fill BG will show a bit too big difference and unbalances background style.

Start with converting these pics into PNG or GIF format and putting here using image tags like this:

[ img ] http://img57.photobucket.com/albums/v175/Darkko/KC.gif [ /img ]

only without spaces. See BBCode reference for more help.
And posting BMPs is painful for other people with slow connections so it's not allowed.
#2638
Contrast. This is definetly too high. Start there.
#2639
Huh--
Despite weak graphics side and lots of grammar errors (especially that annoying "dosent" instead of "doesn't" or "does not" in many places), I think that it would be fair enough to...
...call this an adventure game.
Gongratulations.

And don't think that this is sarcasm or something -- It's not! Myself, among with not-so-few people are still muddling to get this first-released-adventure-game done.

Since not many have tried your game yet, really - make cowman walk faster, not-interactable(he blocks things all the time that are behind him!) and ask someone to proofread the game for you, this would make things alot better and you could be alot more proud about your release.
I'd offer to help by myself, but my english ain't that much better. But there's lots of helpful folks here. Just ask!

And don't forget to visit Critics Lounge frequently - your drawing skills have potential, but still pretty long way to go, because you actually haven't developed your very own style yet. Skills come with practice. I believe that you have no need for RON characters or other borrowed stuff soon, as long as you keep trying and practising(sp?).

Okay, problem is here:

Under character's (NPC) condition "Talk to character" I have a script like that:

RunDialog(0);
if (GetGlobalInt(17)==0)
MoveCharacterBlocking(NAME,x,y,0);

(Movecharacterblocking command is actually with real script name and numbers for x and y but this is not important right now)

Problem is that I want NPC to go away after dialog when one of dialog's topics have made him angry (have set globalint 17 to value 0 directly from dialog script) -- but -- He moves first to the place and THEN activates RunDialog, though I thought that AGS executes commands as they are placed in script, like first command first, then second, then third, etc.

Why doesn'tÃ,  AGS execute dialog first and THEN check for globalint?
