Have you tried to use colors?
Maybe making green squares as leaves and bright blue ones as clouds would give better idea what's what?

btw, this cat looks cool.

Picture won't come up usually when you messed up some wires of burned your motherboard. Or both.

I'm having trouble making bubble edges for text-gui. transparent color comes into way and leaves pixelwide transparent lines where they are not needed.
Still trying to come across it, though.

I haven't got much time recently, because I'm preparing my game to be something I can put up to games in production forum. Something to screen-shot, i mean.

Cartoony? It looks a bit too realistic. But yes, It's pretty cute.

I'm not that negative, as it could seem.
Just, I'm talking for myself, and I really love AGS the way it is right now, so I'm maybe afraid of major "reforms" which could change it too much. But it's just me, okay?

But yes,
Poser - the source of doom and
keyboard movement - okay only in AGI

A Bit overreacted, this cartoony look. Try to straighten things out a bit. Because drawing a charactes in same perpective(-less) style would be really difficult and I'm pretty sure that your character won't look so twisted.
I think that the door on the right (cafe) has about right amount of cartoonyness (sp?). Try to make everything as weird as the door is, and not more.

Overall, absolutely not bad for a first bg.

Right, Evil. Hair.
The shadow under hair gives a feeling like he's wearing wig.

Also, try to judge the ear again. For me, It seems to be positioned a bit too high and angle is maybe a bit wrong too.
But face, face distracts so much, It's really damn nicely done. So I may be wrong.

Pixelcat, stop messing with this mouth and start doing a tutorial. You possess knowlegde not known to many. Where in the hell did you learn to draw like that?
#2690
Is there any templates or demos available?
It's pretty difficult to make one by myself without any aid.
#2691
It would be alot easier if AGS supported changeable masks for collision detection for characters. But this isn't needed very often, I think.

Well, It's all about
SetFrameSound (int view, int loop, int frame, int sound)
function. But yes, I think there's many ways where to use it. I prefer regions (Player walks on to region condition), which seems simplest.

It's just that AGS has thousands of functions that most of us has no idea about. Then, finding out some of badly needed ones is a pleasant experience.

Actually I think that this belongs to tech archive.

The size of door gives idea how big people will be. Now, I really don't believe the construction workers were able to fit between these two buildings when building them. Push the green building a bit further so alley looks more real - and wider.
And what's that chinese puzzle with the edge of sidewalk? It seems wrong and my english is not sufficent to explain how.

Here.

No 3D characters. Or only as a plugin, maybe.
I think that AGS has proven itself very well to be elite of 2D GCS's. Now, there's no reason to lower this state by making it semi-3D engine which can do some 3D, but is still uncompareable to other, fully 3D engines. This sucks. Modern technology?

Well, drawing with a pen onto paper is still alot easier and comes more naturally than dragging mouse around or use tablet. Some things are immortal.

In my opinion, AGS should stay in its frames and reach the perfection of making 2D games, instead of being a little bit of everything - thus being actually nothing.
To be honest, many games are pretty awful too. 3D-character means new graphical (visual) improvement. I can't imagine what happens if people who are really lazy even to learn proper use of mspaint right now, all get some 3d-modelling progs and start flooding world (and us) with their "My 1st gaem!!1!1"s.

Okay, simple question here:
How to make characters footstep sounds ground type/walkable area-dependent? Like soft step sounds on grass and knocking on the wooden floor, etc?
I'm not intending to make several walking views with different sounds, because I'm sure there's an easier way.

I'm sorry if there's millions of threads answering same question or even whole paragraph in manual... Just haven't bumped to any.

I suspect that It's connected with this (fairly new) "properties" stuff in AGS which use I haven't figured out yet...

edit: Ah, solved. Moderators may delete this thread now. Sorry.

For whole picture, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V. Surprised? :D
You may use scissors tool to cut out some area and use it as a brush or save it into one of brushes slots to use later.
For copy-pasting "scissored" clipboard data, Ctrl-Shift-C and Ctrl-Shift-V (pastes clip. data as new image).
Ohh.

Okay, 15 minutes of M$Painting and I came up with this...

Problem is - this is a sheep, and sheep should produce wool. I tried several times, but failed to make him soft and fluffy. But I want a sheep and not hornless goat! So -

Someone, help me to wool (new verb?) this bastard.
C&C is welcome too.

P.S. Red eyes are meant to be there, as a sign of evil possession :D

MSPaint ain't that bad, but I think that any kind of serious bg drawing needs:

- Layers
- Magic Wand selector
- Brighten/Darken processor for brush
- Airbrush, with possibility to use clipboard data as brush shape

Well, that's actually only things I use to make a bg.Work before editing with these things can be make with ANY program, it's just basic and quick pull-lines-fill-shapes work.

MSPaint's eraser and selector tools are quite powerful and comfortable, which makes it the best/fastest sprite/animation editing tool I know. So that's where I use MSPaint.

Still Tanker, start doing tutorials. Editing your existing bg's is ALSO waste of time, when you have completed few tutorials and got things going, I doubt you'll ever want to edit THESE bg's and start from scratch to put your new skills into use.

Amen.
