General Discussion / Re: Socialism

What I did mean, was that maybe we're not ready or even not made to accomplish living in such form of society. Like most Christians fail to live exactly by Ten Commands and million other examples like that. I we hadn't crimes, we would't need police. Police is an instance invented while taking human weaknesses into account, and even FOR it. Socialism seems to be not, it's just based on the idea that everyone works as a team and accepts to be equal. And whenever majority fails to this idea, system starts to break down.

What about giving his face a little expression? like angry, clever, serious of happy look? And feet, they're too straight. Move both a bit to the side, each to each, so even if he's supposed to stand like a solider, his feet could give him support for this, too.

Oh, these colors make me sleepy... *yawn*
Why not put more contrast into them and make some of them brighter? Right now it's all one big sleepy mass along with gui. It's nicely done, but strangely colored, though it gives atmosphere.

Trees are fine, just add some leaves. And think a bit about making outlines less contrasty while increasing contrast between different types of trees.

Character is pretty good. Remove few pixels around his face to make it more rounder, so he won't look like a robot. And try to improve shading by  making clear where light comes from.

Ah, and I just remembered - It's absolutely horrible how american movies and media present Russia or Communism, especially ones made during cold war. Even games today. Hitman 2? Ghost Recon? Even weather! All missions in Moscow show it as a cold, snowy place. So stupid. At the summer there is 30 degrees of Celsius and they always try toÃ,  show how cold and shitty place this is. Ack. And language. Like - I saw "Sum of All Fears" recently. They have an actor playing Russian president there - but his accent is so bad that no real russian could understand what the hell he's talking! I speak a little russian, so I know. Some other actors, in absolutely non-important roles talk alot better. Actually, I can't think of an american movie, where russian language is really real. Like, okay with this russia thing, but same goes for socialism, communism and whatsoever.

Hm. My opinion is that communism would be the most perfect form of civilization, if there wasn't human element that can be called "greed" of some other word representing that.

Estonia, where I live, was the first one which declared independence when Soviet Union broke, but I wasn't that small at this time, and I do rememeber even times when we were called Soviet Socialist Respublic of Estonia.

Basically, everything was alot better. In some ways. There was no hunger. Even if you didn't have any money, you were able to pick some empty bottles from street and give em away, and you got plenty of money to buy food, because it was so cheap.
Everyone had opportunity to have education. Even a dumbest guy could go to univesity if he wanted to. Luxuries like going to cinema, theatre, restaurant, vacation, eat well and so on were so cheap that everyone could afford them. And people could live well even if they worked as a janitor or some other low-payment job.

All the streets in our cities were called with glorious names, representing work, peace or names of famous people such as scientists, astronauts(cosmonauts), writers and so on. Public attitude was different. Being a good worker, honest, productive and loyal to the idea was alot more important than having a neat car or big house. Even among young people.

What I do miss about these times was soviet form of police - milita. People were AFRAID of milita. Not like on present day, where crooks laugh at police. Milita first beated you down and then asked questions, not vice versa. Rude, yes, but it worked!
Streets were alot more safe.

There was lot of propaganda and fear, and this is the worst thing about these times. If named human element wouldn't exist, there would be no need for kids singing songs at school about how great Lenin was or any other of brain-washing all of the time. People would follow the idea by them own, without need to remember them that they must follow the party and ideology and so on. This is why such good things won't work.
And this is sad.

I like the comic. And your drawing skill will improve as long as you continue the comics. Just - as you're not ripping, still try to follow original graphics a bit, otherwise, it's too hard to understand who is who.

I like it! and I especially like the angle, because it offers more wall areas, which are easier to detail! But - make a good side view walkcycle(s), to hit with full effect.

Only thing I don't like at the first sight - are colors. Try to put more contrasty, bright and happy colors! This adds some "cartoon-ness" too. Like right now you have a GUI, where verbs are dark blue with dark purple outline. Bad idea. Give em' brighter outline or font color!

Er, and avoid MS-Paint's default palette at any cost.

Well, you don't have to draw spaghetti for his arm.
Just a little relaxation, like this:

Note the thumb too. You character needs it, if you want to make him more realistic and less like victim of mishandling of explosives :D
#2749
hm. character looks pretty good already, but there's some few things that i'd suggest to overlook:

1) I'm not a 1880's London townsfolk fashion expert, but this guy looks like he's playing together with Limp Bizkit or Bloodhound Gang. At least, he has same monkey-style beard and haircut. And even face. Why not give more beard around his mouth and even add some moustaches to give him more refined and solid look?

2) hat. he definetly needs a hat. andÃ,  maybe a walking stick (cane?).Ã,

3) Suit... while face is nicely detailed, I can't say that about his suit. Maybe try making it brighter and add some pattern to it or something? Shading colors on suit blend too much too, make some brighter, or your hard shading work remains invisible to players because their monitor brightness is not as high as yours.

4) Line tool is not an answer: on side view, his arm is way too stiff and straight. Give it some shape. bend it like letter "V" a bit towards his back, just not too much.

What I did mean, was - Let's say AGS had problems initializing DirectDraw. Instead of posting a thread here or waste CJ's time with PM'ing, waiting for reponse and so on, AGS could just tell me that so I understand and I'll see what I can do about it myself.
Often, errors just disappear after fresh reboot or are caused by some viruses, etc. And these are cases where reporting is just waste of time.
#2751
I don't know if this is possible but -
I'm kind of guy who has weird karma which picks up viruses and strange problems all the time.
Often, they affect AGS. This results all kind of error messages. Like - right now I have something weird going on which messed up MSN messenger main screen, replacing icons with black boxes. And resulted AGS to display BOXES instead of letter "o". Also, it gives an error message when exiting game. Again, I suspect that if I could understand the error, I'd might have idea what's going on.
CJ has ability to decode ags errors. Into english. Why not have some kind of a library or dictionary for users to understand, or just let AGS give error messages with descriptions in human, not machine language? Is it possible at all?

And you probably need something like this in your SQ remake bg...

...if it makes any sense! (I have no clue how light casts in outer space)
#2753
If you're going to use them in hi-res game, character versions 2, 3 and 4 are too bright. I mean, colors blend into each other too much. And yes, I'd add shading, and even more than Darth did.
#2754
Yeah, and let me congratulate you, you have a blaster virus. W32/Agobot-S, I guess. Ever wondered what's this scvhost.exe means in your tasks? or tried to close damned thing?

uh? first one looks extremely familiar?
For the others... are those 3D-rendered? At least difference between sky and everything else leads me to think of it.

I tried to have beat half as speed, It just didn't work out... there's something definetly missing. what?
#2757
These stakes around the road are too blurry.
Same goes to area where door meets ground.
So, avoid this in "important" bg-s.
Actually, It's damn fine bg, I can't think of any other things to improve.

(S)he can't use helmet in hospital. How'd he connect that hose to his nose that's in movies?
#2759
blah-blah-blah.
Moneo, cut the crap and make the game worth to be a sequel/fangame...! or expect creepy guys with brown robes coming after you... did I made myself clear?

(If you didn't get it then - I'm cannot wait to see/play your game!!!!)

Actually, your smeared/smudged guy looks good. Just do so BUT add more detail too. Then it's perfect.

Make the picture with this (interesting!) smearing tech of yours, but then take an evening off and play a little with pixels. Something like this (hope you don't mind, otherwise PM me):

I just detailed eyes (just four white circles! easy?), brought out nose (using shadow/shading), added a little variety to moustache and teeth. 3-minutes work but changes overall look well. This one was hastily done, but I hope you get my point.
#2760
no-no. You figured it all wrong. See, if a smoker walks around wearing something so stupid on his head, he'll probably get beaten up all the time and starts to take fact "smoking is bad for health" seriously and maybe even quit... or - spends a lot time in hospital - where smoking is not permitted. Which leads to quitting again.
