Quoteit seems you're the one freaking out Increator, it's not like anyone screamed and cried in outrage over the game, he said it very plainly, the game wasn't really to his tastes. Nothing wrong with that.
um, maybe really. It wasn't really this spectacular case in my mind. But still, sometimes posting in this forum feels like walking on a minefield.

Stop it! Stop it! stop it!!!
Damn, why do people get so serious at AGS boards? Just say "black" and effin' world war three starts!
Guys, seriously, get some sleep. In every damn thread!
Like, we're adventuregamey people. And makers of them. Healthy sense of humor is something that shoulda have been coming "with the packet" when we did born. Or does playing adventure games and generating plots for them really messed up brains so badly that every letter, move and word may mean HUGE conspiracy against whole planet and we now have to Gestapo every word and even letter in every game, post and so?
This ends up with accusing people not using black outlines on their pics in Critics Lounge. Or too much yellow colors. Or some other idiotism like that. Paranoia is an illness!

NOW I agree. three or four "What's your..." threads in 8 hours! Jesus! Lock em' down!

*thinking*
It's going to seem that we need "What's your problem?" or "What's your mental illness" thread...

*thinking more*
*generating plot*

If this continues, bandwidth goes up to sky! And CJ becomes a poor man. And AGS becomes shareware! And AGSers go crazy! And look at the AGSers map now: They start rebeling in cities all around the world! And cities fall! And End of world comes near! And big countries have to use nuclear and (bio)chemical weapons to slay rebelling masses! And nuclear winter comes! And we all die! Lock these threads already! Save the world!

*huh*

Actually, It's pretty good storyline for an adventure game.

"Dune" made in 1984 by David lynch!
This movie is as bad as can be! And as cool as can be.

The way they freaked up Frank Herbert's book is extremely BAD. Virgin Interactive & Westwood were stupid enough to release games including mistakes from movie...

Yet, It's a really cool movie, when keeping in mind that they didn't use a single byte of 3D graphics. And sound!!! Neatest sound effects ever.

Ain't I right, Roger?

Well, things for games are like - traditional or so. Of course, there's some other things occassionally popping up, such as website designs or some interesting pieces of art/music, but still, basic line is game sfx/gfx.

Quote- Lame jokes that the creator throws in
What?! Die, Dart! Or go have a First-Person Shooter. Adventure games are not for you. Sorry.

QuoteI can't stand it when you need to wait for something to randomly appear.
Indeed! I waited for WEEKS in Sierra's oldie "Gold Rush!". The letter from brother just DIDN'T appear!

Oh yes, and stupid dilemma that appears in 4 games out of 5. I decided to illustrate this:

Non-violent solutions? My ass.

Estonian alphabet is much like english (or standard latin?) alphabet but with 36 letters. We don't use w,x,y but all others, plus some vocals:

Ã,,ä (sounds like 'a' in word 'damn')
Öö (sounds like 'u' in name 'furby')
Üü (sounds like 'y' in word 'typical')
à•õ (?)

and consonants, which are used in only about 20 words
Š š
Žž
Which can be legally replaced with Sh or Zh.
Ool ader kharakters rimein the seim.
Pretty similar to most of other scandinavian languages.

Hm... I think it's KGB a.k.a Konspiracy.
But also Nekketsu Kunio-kun games on all platforms. Especially NES.
Oh yeah, and Art Of Fighting 2 on NeoGeo. Simpy the BEST fighting game ever made.

Draw!
Just making gradient rectangles with text looks extremely dull. Make a rectangle, then give it a shape, like soft of messy edges, then texture it. Not with gradient, of course. And then add text.
Some background will be needed too.

QuoteI just think you chose the wrong section to post in....it would be better off in like the off topic or something...

I feel a bit strange and I ...agree! I think that at General Discussion you may find alot better audience and opinions, because the way people take this thread is somewhat different. It's not "Please give me fair critics on my attempt to draw anatomy of female body" but more like a "hey, I drew a girl playing with... what do you think?"
Or something like that. CL is supposed to be more serious place and this pic cannot be taken very seriously, I think. At least, not here.

QuoteIf you were not interested in the whole pornography. that why go to the link clearly labled pr0n?
Excellent point, OSC

Quotec) sketch by pencil; it is very...
...And don't remember to isolate yourself from other people during that. Or they may get wrong thoughts about you.

Quoteb) attempt more detail

Oh well, Electricmonk, right. Right.
And It's not good at all that you're right.
In matter fact, I think that you won't question my last statement here which is "whole thing sucks!".
Right?

P.S. The copyrighting problem is smallest on Garfield character himself in game, because his feet seem to be too thin to me. But all other characters look even more like original themselves than in any PAWS product... Very impressive!!!! ...an bad. sadly.

P.S.S. About that us fighting thing: Electricmonk, I think you have at least two working humanoid-compatible eyes and so you can make difference between serious talk and total crap. This, in case is just caused by my semi-humorous way to romantise stupidity and give reason to nonsense. Ever noticed my Rogery avatars? :D In other words: just kidding! CJ gathering underground army? Come ooon...
#2854
Aw hell!  >:(
This is stupid. I don't know much about law, but fact is:

You're not giving away anything with your game people could buy from PAWS otherwise. YOU made the game. YOU drew characters and did all the crap. Like, when I get a child and want to name him "Garfield" then what? Have to pay to them for using that name? Stupid.
What does logic say?

-> It's a company. Sells comics, games, cartoons etc.
-> I don't think PAWS has "selling rights for amateur games" in their working license.
-> So they can't and don't sell such a thing as allowance to make a fangame.
-> So you haven't taken anything from them and you're not selling anything related to them. It's a freeware game, after all and they don't have right to sell it too. It's yours.
-> so you also haven't made any material damage to them.
-> and any other kind of damage is about impossible to prove

QuoteAll of a sudden, people start associating PAWS with that offensive material. Even though there is a disclaimer, it's already too late. The word is already out there.
This is stupid. I could write "garfield sucks balls!!!" onto wall on largest street and pee on it. Police would only punish me under paragraph of vandalism. This is democracy, right? Right for opinion and everything. If making games would be easier and not based on love making them, hategames could be as popular as fangames.

Word is ALLOWED to be out there, good or bad. Or newspapers would be shut down immediately aswell. And our critics lounge. And everything else that reflects opinions of different people.

I suggest to research every bit of law around that case and maybe you could even make some money from a that game. If they really are upset enough to sue you, that is.

...actually, I think were very heroic. We, simple, creative individuals, fight for entire dead games genre, and against big companies. What's going on? Is CJ actually a fighter gathering his army for world domination? Sound like a movie "Fight Club" already.

Great sound!

Three things only you could fix to have this perfect:

a) Speech text is with very dark colours. Why not use very bright ones instead to separate them from already dark bg-s and black outline?

b) Sideways walkcycle - not very good  :-\

c) the bug! I walked into puddle at the front of bar and tried to use door. Game resulted a bug which stuck me into puddle, unable to get walk cursor back or do anything!

Well, I'm doing nothing for $nothing per hour. I should ask for a raise.

My last job was being an operator in post office. If anyone has same job experience to share, you'll know why game Postal was made.

I don't remember exactly, but threads like this have existed for ages. But repeating is mother of wisdom.

- Pixel hunting puzzles

- Too much unhandled events!
Remembers me ancient AGI games where most interactions ended up with "What's a <insert word here>?" and Some LucasArts ones "I see nothing special."... even when there was really "special" thing I looked at!!!1!!
Appears in some AGS games too.

- stupid bugs consisting walk-behinds (spoils the feeling)

- Original GUIs/Roger (aargh!)

- Lazily overdone original GUIs/Roger (Framed, Ace Quest, etc)

- Taking long-discussed theory "Graphics doesn't matter in adventure games" too seriously...

Also avoid:

- Timed puzzles
- Too hard/long/much action/arcade sequences

edit: This thread also remembered me that absolutely every weak thing in adventure game can be repaired by having something else superb. Like graphics in Pleurghburg which was compensated by everything else being good, or not-existing walkcycle in Calsoon2 which was unnoticeable because of extremely great (funny!) voice acting and great music.

but OSC, why are you drawing pr0n?

I don't like 2 forums idea. Neither thread/artist idea.

2 Forums? I think It would be more useful if new forum woul be named "Practise you art" or "Learn to draw" which means noobs would be posting there often and experts would tell them what or how to implement it.
And like this, "6 colors freehand pics" won't spam the CL.

Right now, if someone in CL says "not bad" I feel offended and if someone points out 101+ things to improve - it's a big compliment.

Thread per artist?  How would it look like then?  :-\
Maybe thread per project where someone posts some images of their project in progress, this would be better.

So, 3-4 bgs and sprites would be all in same thread.
This way, critics would be more fair too. For example, if I'm making a DOTT game and post one pic from it, and some expert offers a hand to correct bad perspective :) remade/corrected picture won't fit with other ones in game at all.
But this way, people could rate overall style and give more correct advice. That fits with the style.

Another idea (although it may sound stupid): rating. Why don't try to rate art and give them some score. If someone's art gets low score occasionally, artist already knows that he/she should spend more time in  "learn to draw" forum. Then again, it may insult or discourage...

quality maybe? JPEG looks best with photos, but drawings seem somewhat blurry.
