General Discussion / Re:What do YOU hate...?

Yeah, sleeping is like - a complete waste of our precious lifetime. And school system could be flexible enough to give (sick) people (like me) a chance to get education at nighttime. Now, who was dumb enough to invent sleeping?

This 4D thing is entertaining, but not much more.
Well, entertainment is good. Hm... where did I hear the fact that modern physics support already theories for 11 dimensions, despite we can only sense one?

Pop culture.
Such as MTV, rush to buy every newest mobile phone (though it hasn't anything new or at least useful installed), fact that "girly" music being the only one mainstream and seems to be so for next millenia, EVERY type of gaming consoles apart from NES, The fact that all this console crap is flooding internet (just look at any gaming-related popular site! Who gives a f**k about all these PS2/XBOX/WHATEVER console cheats and reviews? They die! Consoles are meant to die! aaagh...)

Racism.
Itsself. People who invented word "racism". People who whine and declare themselves to be suffering ones because of racism.

Total disorder in begginers general tech forum.
I don't understand a word about what people are talking about there. I don't feel like a "beginner" but I know that I never had questions like these are there.
And never will.

Feminists.
Against the laws of nature - and also people who whine and attack others, while shielded by crap about *being* attacked by others.

Forum members who declare themselves somewhat higher than others and acting like it:
We're all human beings. Moderators have extra power of managing our statements. But that concludes it.

Shitheads who have a bad day and try to amuse themselves by picking on my grammar.  >:(

1- Yes, as long AGS advances, there's always something new to learn
2- Depends on HOW you do the learning. There's easy ways and hard ways. Easy way is to set up an easy objective and start with AGS help file to find out which script commands you need to accomplish the task.
Harder way is insanely trying to learn whole script command list... or something. Common functions such as Display, DisplaySpeech, MoveCharacterBlocking, NewRoomEx, etc are ones you probably learn first and memorize best.
3- Start with trying to use script commands instead of premade choices. Soon, you won't use any of premade things, because scripting is actually alot faster and believe or not - easier.
6- Depends on a game length, for a short but "fairly good one",  not less than 4-5 months or so - drawing backgrounds and getting first walkcycle to work actually eat up most of time, everything else goes alot faster thanks to AGS itsself and maybe using scripts instead of messing around with menus while trying to find right interaction. But it's all, all in drawing. Draw fast, game comes fast. Your questions mainly rely on scripting - believe, this is actually last thing to fear, since AGS help file is very helpful and we also have this wonderful community here.

I think It would be useful to add a feature to make mouse cursors animate with *specific* loop. So far, I must create different views for every cursor. It would be more useful to have one view and different loops for different cursors.

edit: another nice addition would be "only when over walkable area"-checkbox to cursor animation properties. But that's not very important.

Advanced Technical Forum / A suggestion.

How about
1) simply RawDrawArea and/or RawDrawAreaScaled which draw defined area of current game screen...  to make zoom windows, sniper scopes, magnifying glasses, etc?

2) AddInventoryEx(int ITEM,CHARID)? character(x).inv(x) does that, but seems somewhat complicated.

3) A simpler way to disable/enable all cursor modes but one? Like, in main menus as such, only pointer is needed.

4) Some built-in menu in debug mode? Like, keypress opens debug menu?

Critics' Lounge / Re:need advice on background

Loads of gray, red and brown is what I imagine on this picture when It's coloured. And many little details/detailed textures.
#2908
Why give up? It looks very nice so far. There's very little to criticize or give advice about, yet, but after furnishing the room and adding more details, I'm sure It'll be pretty nice bg. Shading too, of course. Current volume lights from windows are too bright, unless you'll paint other areas of room alot darker.
Keep on going!

Critics' Lounge / Re:Plot for my new game.

I like the story. It's pretty similar to ones in numerous movies, It feels like you mixed whole thing up from various things. Things like that have selled and this one will too, if you're able to make a game worth the story. A bit Indiana Jonesy plot.
...
Wife dead? House blown up? Do I smell Max Payne here?

Hm... maybe it belongs to tech forum... lazy...

"How to draw a random pistol"
by InCreator, 2004

huh...
Just kidding... Your thread gave me strange need to draw a random pistol.

Erwin/Minimi is right. The smaller sprite you draw, the easier it will be to animate, shade and add detail to it.  I suggest you to draw a stickman with different colors for limbs and try with that until you get the movement right. Later, you can use it as reference.

lovely. But I don't like that "shaking outlines" style. Reminds me one extremely idiotic cartoon... "Ed, Edd & Eddy" was it?

This mechanic guy looks more a stick than human, this is where your improving should start. Shape, this is what he needs.
And then, shading. Wrinkles on pants, shirt, and so.

It's absolutely normal.
And you don't have an idea what relief is to get rid of ME, just try it.

Actually, I did it few days ago, check out this thread.

Whoa! Until now, hackers, for me, were connected only to trojans and low budget sci-fi movies. Today, I decided to investigate.
And now, equipped my cpu with NMap TCP port scanner and SubSeven for bad jokes, I feel quite powerful. Muahaha... ha, whatever.

Actually, this scares shit out of me.  :o

Wow, maybe you could write up a tutorial for the trees and the grass or something,

I did. Check under Docs at agsforums.com main page, there's one of my tutorials.

Another stupid reason to upgrade hardware?
Believe me, guys, this senseless "let's make everything 3D and nothing else than 3D" crap will stop someday. And it'll be a damn good day, IMO.

Boring... I'd describe this.
Good material for improving, I'd describe this further.
Good one, I'd probably say when you're really done with this.
