Oh damn, I'm learning!
Now, looking at the plane scene, they're different.
Wonder how different  things will look like when I'm finished with 10th room?

Super good shading on pants, not that good on shirt. Walkcycle is good, and will be even better if guy would move his hands a bit, and head by a pixel or two, too.

There will be needed to enter the building... but through WINDOW! ;)
At least, I think so. No story yet.

I tried to make some little green shade to foreground tree leaves, too at first place, but It didn't look that good, so I skipped this idea.

The bench is mainly for placing bucket on.
Resizing well seems impossible without redrawing whole thing. And I dont feel like doing this. Scaling will make it just ugly.
I think I'm gonan shade these tree roots a bit more to to separate them, but otherwise, I consider that pic ready.

Well, thanks for advice/crits!

Thanks. I'll make PNG then. Also, I remembered that I wanted to put some grass lumps around well and fence.

Well, third room of my game is ready now. At least, I hope It's ready.

I decided to stick to my weird style, and try to make everything as I can, but take advice on bigger mistakes on bg. Mountains at the background, sky and trees at left side, were drawn by valzebnik, my co-artist, who's learning the stuff, everything else by myself.

Now take a look at this, along with another room and tell me would you like to play something like this.

One or two rooms like that and at least half of a storyline, and I'm confident enough to put some screenies up to "Games in Production" forum. If you like what you see, of course.

edit: I replaced gif with png.

Is there a place where MS explains differences between all windows versions?
Like, not the typical "Got faster, easier, better"-crap noone believes, but really, a version history?

** InCreator sighs **
** InCreator decides to use mspaint with 16 colors next time **

Actually, good point, Evil. I'll try to change angle of cockpit and this little back wing as much as possible without loss of quality, but it's pretty painful, because plane and trees/bushes/wildlife are on the same layer.

I don't/can't use Photoshop, but have a strange feeling it would be a simple task if I could.

What's a wheel well?
Anyway, If there's some things I'm not able to draw better, I think I'll just stick to my old formula: "Something wrong with gfx? Explain it well with game story, so It'll be maybe even more interesting!", example: the fact that pilot has turned into skeleton already doesn't always mean that plane crashed a long time ago: Wildlife is always hungry...

Okay, thanks. I'm gonna try these progs BOYD suggested, new dll/exes and if there's nothing else left to do, Windows '98 is coming back to house.

Thanks for feedback!
It was about time for me to stop aimless chatting around and show what I'm made of. Well, I removed these black outlines where possible, and replaced with planey dark blue around cockpit window.
Some vines got color too, Bent wing got shadow projected to a tree and dents, which I made to patch this mistake up a bit. I hope It's better now.

I accidentally messed up layers, so taking noise out would be difficult.

It's far away from perfect but adventure making has taught me to press on while there's enough InCpiration, and at the moment, I'm creating a BG a day, I have two main characters with complete walkcycles and after a bg or two, confidence enough to make a complete story. (for me, It's almost impossible to draw according to a fixed story, I just draw and story comes with pictures).

Updated bitmap is here...
http://www.hot.ee/increatorgamez/lennuk22.bmp

And m0ds-Andail, I suggest to make BMP-posting control work only when using img=... codes, otherwise, people cannot even post a link to bmp picture without this nag image shown.

Edit by Andail: It's not our call, but you have a good point. Perhaps CJ can look into making the bmp sign not react to the [ url ] code.

Wings? It was pretty much intended that way, Like these planes with one large wing over the roof. So It's supposed to be broken at two points, one of them covered by plane cockpit.
But the size of another wing/ actually the right part of the wing is a bit wrong, yeah.
Actually, I expected lot's of criticizing how flat trees look like..  ;)

About emulators -  they ARE Windows emulators. But sometimes I think that MS tried to make as much games/emulators as possible NOT to work on XP, so every jerk could pay more attention to Age Of Empires (MS product) or something... NeoRageX won't work on XP. DOS games too. But yes, errors chased me to WinME from W98, now I think they'll beat me back to 98.

But really, how can it be that WinME just sucks? Just like that?

There MUST be some explanation why it goes wild only 2 weeks after clean install to fresh, formatted hard disk.

I go wild when some moron steps up and says "But there's DOS emulator you could use with XP"... EMULATE DOS? Someone, emulate me an AK-47 here so I could stop this shit.

(explanation: InCreator, 20 years old, started his IBM PC career at the age of 6. All these 14 years he used, knew and loved DOS.)

I have Windows Millennium.
It's full of bugs (surprise!).
It gives random errors everytime I start it.

Most common are error in KRNL386.EXE, which halts everything and gives unavoidable by anything else but power off -- blue screen, Sometimes when I start it, just plays startup sound, gives error in COMCTL32.DLL and stays with absolutely empty desktop, without quicklaunch/system tray bars/icons.

Most common is freezing when I close something, and appears to happen in same programs all the time.

It halts when I click on a shortcut on quicklaunch bar which links to my games folder.

I have a somewhat old 16MB NVidia RIVA TNT2 card. Every newest set of drivers I download, makes thing always worse (read: inventing More Errors(TM)). And yet, everyone is always suggesting "get latest video drivers!" Latest drivers my ass.

128 MB RAM on 1,3 GHz system can't be below WinME system requirements any way. DirectX 9.1b is installed and reporting no problems. 40GB HDD, at least 3-4 GB always free.

Defragmenting, Virusscans, scandisk, nothing helps.

What the heck should I do?
And don't say "Get Win XP", because I would never ever give up on playing my HUGE set of arcade emulator ROMs, such as NeoGeo games and Capcom CPS 1 ones. And some good oldies I find myself enjoying whenever I'm filled with this stupid 3D no game is made without, nowadays.

Anyway, if some terrorist group around decides to burn microsoft factories down and ransack mr. Gates' manor, I'm in. Any time.

Well, I'm making a game with my friend now, and things are going pretty well.
Here is the bg I did yesterday, for about 5 hours... this is a record for me working on a single picture that long.

I posted gif here, but 8-bit version looks REALLY lame, so if you happen to have something better than dial-up connection,
see BMP (900 KB, same link/filename, but .bmp extension instead of .gif)

Alot better, despite that floor is still just one large plain area.
Add shadow under the chair.

Don't be afraid of contrasty colors, current shadows and three colors on a bedsheet are too much same, you could make contrasts stronger to give picture more overall strength.

Amazing and perhaps a bit terrifyingly big ideas here. I have about 40 years to live and If making such a game could take longer, I'm gonna live even longer until that day to see this with my own eye...

I think that this room is pretty cute, green floor is too empty (add more cracks or some other stuff there), these black lines on a bedsheet don't look good and color choice is quite nice.

I just added && (character[GetPlayerCharacter].walking == 0) to globalint checking to make sure current character isn't moving before changing character. But yes, It could be fixed in next release.
This is first time I noticed something so difficult to explain.
But It can tested simply, make 2 rooms and 2 characters, then send one to another room, make him walk somewhere where isn't a walkable area and as he gets moving, change character fast to first one... It did some other weird stuff too, but I think that was already my mistake.

Oh yeah, remembered. If two characters start game in a room below the edge which sends them into another room (by edge script), first character won't be sent to another room because game has just started. But as soon you change character, script will execute and another character finds himself in a new room without chance to do anything first.

Advanced Technical Forum / a Bug!
Mon 22/03/2004 18:29:07
Okay.
I have two switchable players.
This is done from a GUI button, which has really simple script:

if (GetGlobalInt(100) == 1)
{
SetPlayerCharacter(INC);
SetGlobalInt(100,2);
}
else
{
SetPlayerCharacter(VAZ);
SetGlobalInt(100,1);
}

Simple. Now, problem is that when I make one character walk to a non-walkable area (non-directly)
And while he's walking, switch to another character, he (previous one) walks excactly (directly) to the point he was commanded to walk to, ignoring the fact that it was a non-walkable area. When switched back to character assigned to move, I was surprised that he was standing on a non-walkable area. Characters were in separate rooms.

So, my guess is that problem is in AGS part, where it commands charaters to move, while they're not active player characters and not in current room.

I provided my simple code to ensure that *I* didn't do anything wrong and problem is in AGS itsself.

Movement command was made with walk cursor, so It couldn't be direct (ignore walkables) any way.
