For a long list of credits, AGS Credits plugin would be useful. If you're making this game just alone or with a friend, I don't think you'll need much credits, just add your name to the title screen. Or put it there as an animated object and animate it by a short script.

I don't think that would be a very good idea.
Maybe you should wait a year or so before releasing a game with such reso/color depth.
While 640x480/32-bit should be running on any machine nowadays, AGS is a bit slow engine and your choice just narrows the number of potential players down.

Are you really able do draw graphics worth such requirements on system?

Vel, how about organizing a Mittens next year? I can already imagine fellow AGSers stuck at airplane door because of XXL-sized bags filled with CD's...  :D

Was this joke really made to bombard my IE with countless alt-f4-immune ads and installation of another HotPornWhateverDownloader?

not lovely.

General Discussion / Beginners forum?
Sun 21/03/2004 23:31:44
Ayeegh! I browsed through beginners forum and ended up with complete confusion. What's going on there? Some questions are absolutely un-understandable and some others won't match with word 'beginner' at all. Really, difficult problems.
Or in most cases, beginners want to do something, that can be done with sh*tloads of advanced scripting and are demanding/expecting really easy and understandable solution to this. The things we usually don't do, because it's too painful to do. Huh.

- Open AGS
- Open Room Editor
- Check that box labelled as "Hide player Character"
tada!

Grim Fandango? I didn't like Grim fandango.
But if there was at least one more LucasArts game to choose from, It'll get my vote.
No! No stupid 3D! No ugly polygons! No blurry textures! No akward keyboard controls!
Fact that Grim Fandango had only 3D characters won't make it still better.

Oh, AGS?
When I saw the screenshot, phrase "Game Maker" instantly flew through my head. But AGS?
Awesome.

The Rumpus Room / Re:Sam and Max Cancelled!
Sun 21/03/2004 13:33:48
What is all this moaning about?
Fact that they cancelled absolutely unique adventure game speaks for itsself, doesn't it?

If people like this are behind development of Sam ad Max 2, was it really going to fulfill our hopes and fill hard disks with this game? With oldschool adventuregame makers crew (who made old LA games what they really were) outta company too, I doubt...

We have two options: To yell powerlessly further in desert or get ourselves all those idi0tic XBoxes, PS2's and whatever other console shit is flooding internet, and play Star Wars/WWII FPS's till our eyes bleed and thumbs break off.

PC? Noone wants a PC these days.
Adventure game? yeah, right...

It's pretty weird, too, because adventure games are fun, make you laugh. Now how in the hell should I laugh while playing Medal of Honor? Or anything else like that? Um... Maybe hysterical, near-tears panical laughter, but laugh like this is faaar away from fun.

Of course, we could make somewhat BIG step and unite to make superb Sam and Max game by ourselves. Not that "Case Gilbert" is bad, but I mean something bigger, to copy the original humor, fun and enjoyment at full scale. Well, this won't be happening....
...never.  :(

3ds Max appears to have something called C-Dilla licensing system which causes headache even to legal users/buyers. But yeah, a little bit of *modifying* should get creating strated.

And totoro, yeah, I AM rich. Just as "rich" as these other salty dogs over Carribean with eye patches and few missing limbs few hundred years ago... *ahem*.  ;)

But Estonia appears to be a very distant other-universe hellhole for other world so I couldn't buy max even if I wanted to (or had cash for this). Then again, Petteri lives only about 100 or so kilometres away from me and I don't think he has same problems with getting software legally.

Hourglass? Simple indeed. A line with lathe modifier, two boxes, four cylinders.

N00bs of 3D are using something called anim8or,
which is supposed to be very free and very easy.
Maybe this'll help. www.anim8or.com, if I'm right.

Well, I'll stick to my good ol' 3ds MAX.

Shadows are what you really need here.
#2953
Now this is alot better one.
There's still some problems though, such as these little trees look like they're painted onto wall and grass looks like a furry carpet. Maybe you should turn off antialiasing when doing grass?

Maybe you'd want to check out my BG tutorial too, It's on this agsforums.com resources page.

Really nice one. Could have a bit more detail, though, such as (mine?) lumps on the sand, or a foot step tracks of a guard solider or something like that. Or a flag on the bunker. Reminds me a bit one level from Unreal Tournament.

Nicely drawn character, that is.

But your BG looks empty and... boring.
Try to add detail a little, put a floor plant to the corner, rip a bit of tapestry apart, or if it's a very clean and nice room, add a little shelf with pot of plants or something like that! otherwise, It'll be just a big empty room.

And shade everything!
Currently, two connected walls have excactly same color/light, and this is completely unnatural. Make one (or other two) darker, and make them all darker in corners and near the floor. This is just a little work, but picture changes quite much by that. Positively, of course. Think where light source in such room would be, it helps when shading.

Critics?
I'm just having few questions.
Is that tree on the picture having some strange gravity, which keeps leaves floating around the branches without being connected to the branch?
Is that brown thing a (furry?) cave or a dead bear hit by a bazooka? And why is some of grass growing on him? Or is he already dead for that long?
How many seconds did you spend on making this picture before posting?

If you're able to explain (in your game) what's going on with BG-s like this, consider yourself having a goddamn good story.

Yeah, I agree with Guybrush. Goldwave is a program that can fix everything, even having a microphone built of set of broken headphones. Just learn how to use the program and you won't need any wind screens nor a studio.
#2959
Nice background yeah, but is that made for a game?
If so, keep in ming that backgrounds, where perspective makes things to be at very deep angles towards a player, makes things difficult... uh.
Basically, if you'll make a room like this, you have to use lots of scaling on your walkable areas and scaling makes character appear horrible, especially when scaling character larger. And this is a problem you'll encounter later with this room.

Critics' Lounge / Re:A walkcycle
Tue 16/03/2004 13:12:39
Ah, what the hell... AGS is helpful community and everything... So I wrapped up a walkcycle fast for you to show how do I imagine this thing.

It's 8-frame animation, and definetly not the best I can do, but should do earning it's honor of existence and waste of server space as an walkcycle example. Accidentally, it happened to be same "sliding" bummer as on yours. Maybe this character is cursed to keep his feet on the ground or just having magnetic boots ...  :-\

I didn't make a big picture, but if you want a closer look, all eight gifs are zipped here.

P.S.
Don't use this one though, (Because it's a shitty one and I'm sure you can do alot better!) unless you're really out of luck.
