Actually, CJ told me already all I need - thanks.
Finding this commit driver was a battle by itsself, after crawling through fileplanet.com, registering multiple times and disabling "show images in web pages" (fileplanet is a dial-up'pers private hell  :o and I'm using two times faster LAN connection), I got finally the icsetup.exe. Works like magic.

"All humans are descendants of Adam and Eve--" ...okay... "--who had many sons and daughters--" ...yeah... "--so Cain MARRIED ONE OF HIS SISTERS!" ...oka-- Wait, isn't that incest?

It was! And a double one... remeber Noah? Who were on his boat? He and his family. All others died in flood... So we're already doubledamned thousands of years ago. No heaven 4 us... Of course, if the sin wasn't made *before* the flood ended... But I really can't image a ship full of animals, birds, insects and pregnant women.   :D

General Discussion / Re:Making music

When talking about module music (which sound a little bit better than MIDI), I'd suggest you Sound Club. It's totally free and small (about 3 MB).

It supports its own format, .sn2 and also S3M. MOD-tracks can be loaded too, but not saved.

Basically, It's a thing between proffesional tracker and program for children, something like in drawing programs would be "something between MS-Paint and Adobe Photoshop".

It's damn easy to use, you don't have to mess with letter and numbers, like in pro trackers, just draw some lines, assign instruments to them and voila!

Program comes with an instrument bank of about 500 different samples, but you can always make new ones or rip them from other songs *ahem*.

And it should work on even 486.

I personally use SoundClub for composing a song, then save it in S3M format and RE-save in MODPlug Tracker, to add reverb, chorus and other effects.
Really easy, yet sounds good, too.

Start by browsing http://www.bluemoon.ee, SoundClub for windows and another one for DOS should be located somewhere in "history" page. (Don't accidentally download DOS version, Win95 version is much better in some ways)

General Discussion / multiplaying

Well, I'd like to get any info on playing old games over internet, such as shadow warrior, duke nukem 3d and so on. there's no TCP/IP play supported with those, but i guess people are playing. Patches? spec. progs? I'd like to play, but since i don't use dial-up modem, there's no way i could play them. and this TEN-internet play-thing with 3drealms games COSTS MONEY, so, yeah.
any help or hints would be appreciated.

Thanks to cpage for helping out. Actually, I moved it to freewebs after my estonian most popular free web servers accounts at zone.ee and hot.ee failed to show the picture, which is very weird, and has never happened before.
Another, and even weirder thing is that Valzebnik managed to see the picture on his computer (he has different ISP). He's from Estonia, too, (and he's not myself, if someone happened to think i would sink that low) - he's a friend of mine and I'm teaching him drawing. He made a background too, today, posted here, and is having same problem! Wonder what happened with estonian free-web-servers... but It's sure I need a new space for my files and surely not estonian one. What was this advice about 2dadventures again?
#3027
Very weird... doublechecked link and pic via ftp. everything *HAS* to be normal! Ok, I changed link to another... same server though, another account. Erased all history, cache... even cookies!
It does work.

Probably because you posted less than 3 minutes after me (maybe pic was still uploading). It should work now, for me, it does.

Critics' Lounge / C&C on a background: my room
Thu 18/12/2003 10:24:53
I tried to make my room for a 640x480 game.
I know that perpsective went a little out of reality, but I'm still not sure should I keep it as it is, or make changes.
Any comments?

*edit:* I moved picture to a freewebs account. Possibly the problems between hot.ee server and people from other countries, people under estonian ISP-s claim they see everything right. This has bever happened before - because I'm a member for a long time and taken part of MsPaint game and so... no problems reported yet!
Still, a bit embarrasing and stupid case. My apologies and link *should* work now.

Anyway, I keep on making a game with 3d-rendered backgrounds and 2d craracters. Just thought it could be much easier vice versa.

NEXT: Next super-user friendly program Microsoft will invent

Well, It's a bit difficult explain, but I played Monkey Island 2 and notified another great thing in SCUMM engine. To understand what I'm talking about, this game and a sound card is needed.

The game has midi-like music (I'm not really sure, what).

When entering into Largo's hotel room, music continues, but with extra instruments and a bit weird style! Leaving room music goes back to "normal", but it never stops playing! Extra instruments just "fade" away. How did they do that, and is something, that can be added to AGS,too?

#3033
well, wasn't it? Maybe too much Tomb-Raidery, but still, inventory items, a story/plot, adventure-gamey look and so on.
I'd just call it "an adventure game with endless arcade parts"... heh ;)
#3034
I looked at Sam and Max 2 website and realized that adventure games are becoming modern.

Just wanted to ask, is it possible, some day or way, that we will see AGS 3D? Lucasarts is implementing their Grim Fandango engine and Larry 8 will be in 3D, too.

But 3D-characters in adventure games have existed since inventing of that technology (like in Alone in the dark series, for example)

Well, I was still doubting in animating such detailed and huge characters so I tried to draw a character by myself, in your "Rolf and Joachim"-style. Ok, It's animatable, but I also understand that it's a big and difficult mission you're doing. Can't wait to see some results!
btw, character, which supposed to be Soviet army officer, (supposed, because I don't know much about SA uniforms) is here:

Actually, it was Interference, who offered help, but what the hell, I can give a hand too, if needed. Just tell what do you need... and parameters (image attributes and color depth).

I'm a WW2 fan, as long as human being can be a fan of a such as terrible thing as war is. It's just my favourite history subject. So --

I've tried to fo WWII game too, a year ago or so, it was about conspiracy to aquire ...erm how is it in english?... this hard or heavy water used for making nuclear bombs and so. And main character (Allies spy) was involved into stopping it, infiltrating nazi camp. Well, at some point I stopped it, because my drawing skill boosted up and I started to use 3ds max 3-d scenes in my games.
#3037
Excellent characters!
Do they look same in the game?
And if so, are you really able to animate them?
#3038
Usually, isometric games are not based at 45 degrees.
relation to x and y is more like 2:1 or even 3:1.
But I believe that some of you folks there may really find diagonal baselines useful, yeah.
#3039
Thousands of thanks. I got rid of it.

But for me, I feel like I'm raped...
#3040
Gee, thanks a lot. Well, I'm Running Win98se and Kazaa is NOT loaded on startup. It's Kazaa-lite, which has sharing disabled. Could you explain how to perform check on it? I don't get these node things very well.
I changed my IE three times (6, then 4 and now 5.1)
but BEFORE I deleted that winexec thingy.
I got suspicious when every time when i rebooted, after few minutes windows reported that it can't run some winexec thing and suggested to close this (This illegal exception error). The name of the program made me think that it's just some crap from microsoft which doesn't want to run... But looking at this exe-s properties and noticing text "evilbot" there gave me chills...
I have fairly antique computer, so i'm used with such errors (right now, there's none). I'd do my research in internet by myself, if i had any speed. At least, agsforums DO load and let me post... So - my previous idea to download Netscape Navigator and try inter-netting with that is impossible too...
