I believe one of my downfalls is motivation. I could spend hours on an animation that I was doing just for fun, yet when I start a project and list the animations I need to do I won't do them cause it will take "too long". This applies for many things, not just animations. And I know I can make a game, I have proven this with my SHAG entries. So why can't I make a game at an easy pace? Well here is the test. I have set myself the goal to produce a game by Sunday night (00:00am GMT). My theme is: Space Pirates. I want to see if that 48 hours to make a game will give myself enough pressure to produce a game and a short enough time to limit my ideas.

So basically this thread is asking how do you target/motivate yourself to make a game or work on something? And am I doing the right approach? I am just interested to see what I come up with and hopefully will lose my game virginity.

Ps: Other people are welcome to join in. It is just a personal goal of mine and an experiment. Also if you are going to join in please use the same theme as myself, just comparing them would be easier.

So.. I better start then...

;D

If anyone from AGS was watching do you think they would be able/would post to this thread?

Well done bic!!! I would of entered, but I never started coding until 5mins to go. Time passes by so easily when you are drawing chickens  :P
Still I think Bic would of won. It is an awesome entry.

I like the walk cycle, although the body moves up inside the shirt, but the shirt seems to stay at the same position. I guess the walk cycle is very rough as he doesn't have the same features as the clown in the picture or the same shading.  Also I have no feeling of depth in your picture, it seems very pillow shaded. Maybe as suggested, use a little more bright colours. Especially the objects/characters at the front of the screen.

As I said on Stickam, I cannot wait!!! I loved the first and I am sure I will love the second.  ;D

I know of someone who finds the thread unpopular  :P

Remember Nacho is basically the moderator of the General Discussion forum :P And we have lowered the tone of the forums. We are disgraceful. Hang our heads in shame.

And you were going to do that to me too... I bet the only reason you actually sent me the disc was because I could label you as a thief on the forums  :P

Anyway I don't want to get one of those "leave it to PM" posts, but I started to play the game today and I think it is great. I love how "Zelda-esk" it is. I think I got a pretty good deal from you and feel a little guilty.

[/personal thank you]

This is my sorry excuse for a blog. I will have something to write about one day  ;D

I got mine through the door today. Not played it yet, but everything seems in order.  ;D

Thank you Stupot

All I can see is that they used tiles... I am not the biggest fan of them but useful if you need to create a lot of backgrounds.

Okay so I am the host for the next SHAG which will be on:
Monday 14/07/2008 at 21:00GMT

I will be involving some new rules in this competition. So to make sure everything is clear.

RULES:
  • We need at least 3 people to run the competition
  • The competition will last one hour, although an additional 15mins can be earned if requested by more than 2 people. You can only request in the last 15mins of the original hour. The host will inform everyone of what time is left every 15mins.
  • You will be given a theme and a list of features. Each feature is optional, although each feature added to your entry will earn you one point
  • Once the games have been entered and the features are checked and agreed apon with the author. Then normal voting will start.
  • The voting categories will be: Story, Puzzle, Graphics, Overall. Each category will earn you 5 points.
  • Once all the voting is finished. The points are added and we will find out who is 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
