Dualnames, I believe this topic is for the ads, not discussion about them. People provide email addresses and the "PM me" pharases for a reason...

Dialog lines, yes, but having scrollable dialog topics I think you need to do a bit more than just that. You'll need to make a GUI where you put in the arrow buttons and some labels or buttons, and update their texts according to which ones are being scrolled to, as well as have clicking on one run the option number with the right offset.

I wouldn't imagine it being hard, it's just a bit of work. There might be an easier way I'm overlooking, but I'm pretty sure I'd know how to do the same thing if I needed it and get it looking and working as intended, which would be fine for me at least.

Yeah, I think this is what religion is basically about and it makes sense in a way. But it has nothing to do with genuinely and literaly believe in the bible which I consider plain stupid.

I wouldn't personally call it stupid, I'd just say misguided. Sure, you can try, but following what the bible says literally is pretty impossible. Of course you can look at it this way: You'll be missing out on a lot, which is plain, voluntary stupidity. As is, in connection, not standing against those who tell you it'd be wrong to think otherwise. Everyone has the right to think and act as they see fit. Some people just don't realise it or have the guts to take up to it. Which is, yes, stupid.

In short, giving up your human rights just because someone else tells you to do so is in my opinion stupid.

QuoteI wish people wouldn't toss around the word 'fact' so freely.  This doesn't happen to be true for many Christians.  Being saved, for many, is not some mythic get out of jail free card.  It's not a fact unless a vast majority of Christians believe this way, and if and when they do, I think I might just become an atheist.

Did Luther say so or did he not? It is a fact in the sense that he did indeed teach that and not something else. If you run an office and you tell your workers they can have two coffee breaks a day but most of them think they can have four, does it disband the fact that they are allowed only two?

I won't deny I openly loathe the Roman Catholic church for so much they've done plain wrong. That plan wrong being the way they have forced their ways on people that contradict the bible, and then they tell people to follow what the bible says.

But I wouldn't call believing in this stupid. I would call it mere ignorance, or just being happy with less than you could actually get out of life. But whatever floats your boat.

There is one actually religious person I know I really respect. Truly religious as opposed to socially religious. And the reason I respect this person's views so much is that she's realised the basic fact Luther's put fourth: You're going to heaven, thus are saved, as long as you believe in God. It's very simple and effective. You can go about doing whatever you want from there on.

It's natural for people to need something to fill this certain gap in their lives. People need something in common with others, a safety net to fall on, something that will be there for them. And for most people it is religion. They're taught to needing it from a child, and the peer perssure to needing it is high.

Religion (most of the time) is not stupid, but you can do extremely silly things with it.

Quote from: Dudeman Thingface on Wed 19/11/2008 11:06:23I'm assuming this is pointed at me.

That was actually a passive sentence. Of course I can't say it's everybody, but I've seen many religious fanatics who in the end don't really know anything about their religion. That's not my main concern here though, I've just noticed that the stronger someone's faith in something is the more aggressive they are to defend it, and if this happens to be the case on the writer it leaves very little room for any reasonable "opposing force" in the game.

Coincidence!

Well, they're not there, sure. I can see your point there. But if you don't need to read the scripting tutorial you supposedly already know about the short cut operators then, is my logic here.
#147
You'd have to know how to do it to pull off a proper adventure game and not end up having the fanatics praise it and the rest shun it as a spiteful attempt at converting. So if you're a fanatic christian, don't write the story.

1) Add += and -= into the manual. They already work, so why not update the manual? I find them immensely useful, and more so than the binary ones.

They are in the manual. If you know enough scripting to use them you'll probably too notice which ones work and which ones don't, so I really don't see the storm in a tea cup about this you've brought up.

The basics shouldn't be too hard to grasp. As said, AGS is not for everyone. If you can't get a hold of the simplest things of the scripting language with the tutorial and some examples, makes me wonder if you're the type to actually put a game together...

'Scuse my elitism, but I still find it hard to accept people could be so stupid or helpless not to even try. No offence intended; on the contrary.

Nice stuff. :)

Hm, Grundy's been showing very odd attitudes towards pants all around, so I'm not surprised...

Higher bitrates than 16 seem to cause more or less trouble all over the place. Unless you're making a game targeted for audiophiles I don't see a reason to go that high

Colour theories are, incidentally, rather nothing to me. I don't like labeling and categorising people anyway. And having every character unique doesn't mean they can't have the same traits as others. There might even be two characters with alike personalities and talents yet they could be unique.
#153
Not this sort of theory, but yes, I have characteristics written or at least thought up for my characters and I try to keep to them in dialog and such. I like designing deep, complex characters, and usually taking psychology into account helps out when dealing with their relationships. Knowing something about how the human mind works can help you produce quite real characters, I'd imagine.

I haven't really gotten around to toy with all this properly, but one example I've tried was in my OROW game. It's probably not that easy to spot in it right off, but each of the three characters have their own traits. One's a natural leader, one's an intelligent smart-ass, one's thick but not through and through stupid. And I think I got their relations working OK, for the little the game had in it.

I really own just five vinyl records, all are relatively new, from this decade anyway. But there's a heap of old ones down stairs, and a working player. I've sort of forgotten the habit, but I used to go down there and listen through all the obscurities I'd find in my parents' record collection. It's not huge, but still... For example I recognised the Ramones record off GG's picture, and I'm pretty sure I've seen the Sex Pistols album down there.

My own player's been broken for a while and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but yeah, I do love the style old lp records have to them. Once I get my hands on some spare money I'll sure try to include a number of lp purchases in my expenses, too.

Masquerade != cosplay.

A real masquerade would be fun to attend, I think.

I'm pretty much with Pesty here on this one, cosplay is weird. I'm all for certain types of larping, but running around the woods throwing pine cones or dice at each other, or dressing up as cartoon characters just for the sake of dressing up as one are not my cup of tea.
#157
Wow, this is shaping up to look even more excellent than I had hoped for, once again. I really hope I can pick up the pace with any of my bigger projects to get to benefit from all these new things.

Larping is way more fun than cosplaying in the end. Unless you're hopeless with anything else than making costumes. But then again, in cosplay competitions you need to know the character too, if you're going to take it that far.

It's really nothing special. Just an average day apart from every person you really don't care for talking to you and the people who'd maybe count having forgotten. So move a long, stuff will come to you, you don't have to go find it right now.

I second the option to disable AGS automatically formating my script for me. Since AGS is not the only thing I code in and no other editor does this for me it's a bit of work to have to remove spaces and move the braces around all the time.
