Nice to see you guys are finally making it official :) I loved the original games, can't wait to see them live up to their full potential in the remake!

Wow, looks superb! Really looking forward to play it, love me some cyberpunk! :)

I'm not sure if/how that particular functionality was implemented in 2.7.2, but in 3.2.1 you flip the sprites on a per frame basis in the actual views. Maybe worth having a look there?

Wow, I can't believe I missed this. Looks great, gonna have to try out the demo! :)

You can override on_mouse_click() in room scripts so something like this should work. ClaimEvent() will prevent any other script files from receiving the click event.

Code: AGS

function on_mouse_click(MouseButton button)
{
  if(button == eMouseLeft)
  {
    Object* pObj = Object.GetAtScreenXY(mouse.x, mouse.y);,
    if(pObj != null)
    {
      Syn(pObj.ID);
      ClaimEvent();
    }
  }
}

Here's a nice (and successful) Swedish project on Indiegogo:

Might be worth a try. Sure can count on my pledge :)

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't overlook european alternatives. I still have quite painful memories of this though :(: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-samaritan-paradox#home

Congratulations on this huge release, Dave, Ben, and everyone else on the team! Super psyched to finally play the series finale. :)

Are you sure you can't start in Kickstart in Sweden? There seems to be a lot of them already:

https://www.kickstarter.com/discover/advanced?woe_id=23424954&sort=magic

I'm certain it has opened up in the Netherlands not long ago. So maybe Sweden aswell?

Anyway, great looking project. I hope you and your team are succesfull, one way or the other.

When I try to start up a project on the website it says: "Project creation is currently open to creators in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Netherlands". So I'm guessing I'd have to get help from some kind of third party to make it happen, that's probably how those other swedish projects did it. Anyways, thanks for the kind words!

I don't think I've posted to say how fantastic this looks!

But since crowdfunding has been mentioned I just want to say this: If you can find a way to use Kickstarter - use Kickstarter! It has a much bigger community than Indiegogo, and with a good looking game like this you'll get huge support from complete strangers. It's open to UK bank accounts as well as US.

Thanks Ali! Yeah, I definitely will use Kickstarter if I can, but it may be a bit of a struggle with me being located in Sweden. I'll be sure to research possible workarounds for the financial restrictions, hopefully there is some way of solving the problems.

Looking great as always, Joel! However, I'm personally a bit bummed about a 2015 release... that means our highly secret joint super project X will have to wait a bit longer!

Thanks man! Sorry about the delays everyone, but I'd prefer Kathy Rain to come a bit late and live up to it's full potential rather than rush it out on pure principle. (btw, huge grats on your own release!) About the last part: Hush, hush! ;)

And yeah, update time! The development is going quite well, the first Day (chapter) of the game is pretty much done and won't be changed much except for VO, minor dialogue tweaks and a few lingering placeholder assets. Day two of the game has seen rapid progress and is now fully playable from beginning to end. I have thus moved on to Day three, which is in progress with some bare boned areas but lacking much in terms of puzzles.

Given the recent progress I have decided to bring in a bunch of more people for testing. If you are a dedicated, long term tester who want a chance to influence the development of Kathy Rain along with a place in the credits and a copy of the game, look no further! Just send me a pm with your email adress and you will be sent monthly newsletters with stable builds up until the release of the game.

*edit Got enough help now, thanks!

Please tell me when this game goes to Steam Greenlight, I'll definitely for it. Wont you put it on Kickstarter too?

Will do! Crowdfunding is definitely something being considered, but most likely wouldn't be Kickstarter specifically since it's restricted to US citizens. A european alternative such as IndieGogo is more likely.

However, successful crowdfunding is a big undertaking since one pretty much has to create a marketing campaign to properly support it. We'll need more or less final gameplay footage, recorded voice acting, preferably a nice trailer etc, which requires some of the more exciting areas of the game to be complete to create enough trailer moments. Maybe I'm a bit overambitious, but it's definitely way too overwhelming to pull off at this point. Eventually though, absolutely! :)

The background artist is a true pro.

Thanks guys, glad to hear you like it! :)

I'll seize the moment to give a quick update. The development is steadily progressing, the first chapter of the game is very polished now and subsequent chapters are slowly starting to take shape. However, a 2014 release is beginning to look slightly optimistic. We're still doing our best to hit the target, but to avoid disappointment I'd rather be upfront with the fact that we may be facing a 2015 release.

Also worth noting is that I am in contact with a few different distribution partners, so hopefully the publishing part will resolve itself soon!

Congrats man, it turned out great :)

I must say this is an awesome plugin, pretty much the only way to get a flawless result in AGS regarding fonts. Great work Calin, gave you a spot in the credits :)

What are the chances of the game being on GOG?  :smiley:

I'd say fairly high, probably higher than getting on steam as gog.com seem to have a smoother submission process. They've started to take steps lately to build good relations with indie devs to compete with greenlight. If I would take a wild guess I'd say the game will probably be released initially on a dedicated website using some kind of third party payment solution, then gog.com, and lastly steam. But of course, all of this is of course highly dependant on any potentially involved publisher, they'll want a say in how and when the game is distributed where :)

My ambition is to get the game on steam, which I think I'll be able to pull off, I've worked in the game industry for some time now and my gut feeling is that I know some guy who knows some guy. I may be overconfident though and the game might very well get stuck in greenlight hell and then primarily distributed through other channels.

I'd hate to think that this is how it's done... I really love how Kathy Rain is shaping up and it's actually one of my most anticipated AGS games at the moment... but having been through Greenlight Hell myself I'd find it terribly unfair that knowing a guy-who-knows-a-guy is the way to do it...
I'm sorry you feel that way, man. Personally, I'd judge my game on it's own merits, regardless of any potential distribution shortcuts. Sadly, things like this is no different from applying for a job or looking for an apartment, contacts will always get you an advantage. But I assure you, Kathy Rain will go through the same review process as every other game. I'm simply trying to avoid needing an actual marketing campaign to just have the game be considered for steam.

I'd say the whole Greenlight system is flawed and unfair, whether or not one even gets picked for review appears to be fairly arbitrary even when high up in the lists. Many good titles are buried beneath the pure volume of games, much like what's happened to the mobile games market. Valve simply don't have enough resources to look closely at every game. Even guys like Dave, who actually is an established publisher with several titles on steam has to go through the same tedious process every time. :undecided: The fact that your game even had to be greenlit despite the critical acclaim and already being sold successfully on other venues is indicative of a system error I think, if things were fair they would've taken your game up for review based on that alone.

Anyway, these kind of discussions are somewhat OT in this thread, I'd be happy to talk about the subject in a separate thread or via PM! :)

What's the estimated price for this? Going to be going through vendors like Phoenix?

Wow, that's a good question. The price will depend on a lot of things I'd say, like how the game will be distributed and to what extent a publisher will be involved. The business part, i.e. actually selling the game is a future headache I've only begun to scratch the surface of. Right now we're focusing purely on developing the game and making it everything it deserves to be.

At some point during next year I'll probably try to involve a business partner of some kind to deal with sales, distribution and marketing. My ambition is to get the game on steam, which I think I'll be able to pull off, I've worked in the game industry for some time now and my gut feeling is that I know some guy who knows some guy. I may be overconfident though and the game might very well get stuck in greenlight hell and then primarily distributed through other channels. I doubt there will be any physical copies, most likely digital download only.

But to get back to the pricing. If I would make a very rough educated guess based purely on things like length and production values and compare to similar games, I'd say it will probably be in line with releases from Wadjet Eye Games, most likely a standard $9.99 priced indie game, but we'll see.

And yeah, before you ask, the 2014 release estimate is assuming that distribution is handled smoothly without any major delays. I could be underestimating the work involved, it's very much possible that we'd have to push the release date. I'll keep you guys in the loop!

Hi everyone, sorry about the radio silence!

I just wanted to let you all know that the project is still very much alive and moving forward. I'm fully settled down at the new job now so I'm once again comfortable with devoting almost all of my free time to the project. I started involving more people for early testing and feedback and I've gotten a ton of good input, the game is improving by the day!

The current target is a 2014 release, but please don't bring out the torches and pitchforks if the... unfathomable happens :)

Oh man, don't give them any ideas! :wink: But yes, things are steadily progressing, sorry about the radio silence. I'll post a proper update soon :)
