I just downloaded and installed AGS (3.0.2 SP1) and when I click it in the Start menu, I get the following two consecutive error messages:

---------------------------
AGSEditor.exe - Entry Point Not Found
---------------------------
The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

---------------------------
.NET Framework Initialization Error
---------------------------
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscorwks.dll could not be loaded
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

edit:
Never mind, I downloaded .NET framework and repaired my installation, and now it works fine.

I just realized this is an old thread, but I must say, I really like the part at 1:45.
All this piece needs is some tweaking. I could be more detailed if you want, but I'm not sure if you still want crits on this relatively-old thread.

A relatively new way of tracking your surfing habits and securing personal info is through the use of transparent "web bugs," small (usually 1x1) .GIF files that are linked to various Web pages.

Relatively new? I can't remember the last time I saw an e-mail client that didn't automatically hide images.

Just an addicting little site I thought I'd share with everyone.
It's barely been around 1 week and it's already quite popular.

Isn't there a way to map the screenshot button to a different key? Check your game's global script, I'm pretty sure there's SaveScreenShot() or something like that in there in the on_key_press area.

Setting a cat on fire is absolutely horrible. I honest can't believe someone would do something terrible like that. However -  I think that's far from making him the absolute "worst person in history". After all, people were burned in the Halocaust, too.  And personally, I think that harming a human being is much worse than harming an animal.

Yea, just had a look. That looks rather... complex. Having to draw absolutley everything using code, but the effect is very impressive. I can only hope to look forward to something being completed using this. I may attempt to make a room or something this month.

It's not all code - don't forget the in-game prim editor. I made a couple rooms without touching the code.

Obviously, it might need a little tuning up and speed fixes (the stairs in particular... though, that's not really an issue if you don't need stairs.),

I was thinking about the stairs, and I remembered that on Nintendo 64, stairs were usually created by making a slope with a stair-like texture on it, rather than actually creating each individual step as a cube.
Just an idea, if anyone needs it.

Very impressive and exciting! I can't wait until this is finished!

As for bug reports: I noticed some sorting issues, where for instance the sky is put in front of a brick wall. There's also a blue border around some walls (seems to be the sky). And the wall on the right-hand side of the stairs renders weirdly.
This screenshot shows the weirdly-rendered wall by the stairs as well as the blue border.

I couldn't go back into the FPS Alley after I left because of this error:
Error: run_text_script1: error -6 running function 'room_a':
Error: Array index out of bounds (index: 10, bounds: 0..9)
in Ags3d +PLUS+ (line 3471)
from Room 3 script (line 413)

General Discussion / Google Talk

I knew it was only a matter of time before Google made their own IM client.

You need a Gmail account to use it, but Gmail is open to any sms-compatible phone now. (invites are a dime a dozen nowadays anyway)
I tried out Google Talk, but it was a bit bare imo. Luckily it uses the Jabber protocol which makes it compatible with many other chat clients.

Google Talk supports standards-based communication clients, which means that Gmail users can access the Google Talk service and exchange instant messages using other clients that support the standard XMPP protocol, such as Trillian, GAIM, iChat, Adium, and Psi. This allows users to access the Google Talk service for instant messaging from all major platforms, including OSX, Linux, and Windows.

You're amazing Steve, I wish I had the skill to contribute to this.
After testing I found a sorting problem with Mika. After I first noticed it, it was a bit hard to duplicate, but I managed this screenshot (which is from a distance, but the first time I saw it it was closer).
Also, the ground is still always drawn last, and Scid's roof is still drawn first.
The last thing I noticed is that when I turn collisions off and move in the air, I can't land on the blue blocks or the yellow sphere when I turn collisions on again.

Oh - and there's a warnings.txt file that says "(in room 1): display_switch_out".

edit: I tried to get a better screenshot of the Mika thing, and when I did, I noticed that I think it might be an issue with her baseline. (see here)

It's good for the most part. After a bit of trying, I managed to break it in a few ways. Firstly, it seems like when I switch into move/scale/colour/rotate mode, some things aren't sorted correctly anymore. Also, the doorknob to the back room in Scid's is easy to notice sorting problems with. Lastly, I was able to get the second step (in the main room) to be drawn under the first step when I was at a certain angle, but I don't know how to describe it. It took a screenshot of it malfunctioning and it being fine (two slightly different angles), so that perhaps you can see the angle that broke it.
Hope that helps.

This 3D ability is amazing. I check this thread every day! I can't wait until it's finished.
Just a couple things I noticed:
- There's something wrong with the underside of pyramids. It doesn't get rendered correctly.
- About the sorting bug: I noticed that when I experience the bug, if I click on where a primitive should be, then the correct primitive is selected, as opposed to the one that is wrongly sorted. Might this shed any light on how to fix the bug?

Other than that, this whole thing is very impressive! I hope HeirOfNorton's texture mapping goes well.

edit: Also, barring CJ updating AGS itself, couldn't someone just write a plugin that gives AGS3D the functions it needs to do textures, as well as even maybe RawDrawTransparent...() functions to allow for partially transparent shapes?

I am hosting my site with Site5, and they're the best host I know of so far in terms of both plan value and customer support (~15 min avg ticket reply time).
And, you just missed it, but they had a special where you could get a free month of hosting just for using Firefox.

Igreiga.org is a great host that includes a free plan.

To start a cutscene, use the StartCutscene() command as detailed in the manual.

To use plug-ins:
QuoteAGS Manual:
To get any plugin to work you must do the following:

1. Place a copy of the plugin files in the AGSEDIT directory (not your game folder).

2. Start the AGS Editor up, and load your game. Go to the Game menu, and select Plugin Manager. There, you should see all available plugins listed. To use one in your game, check the box next to it and press OK. The plugin developer should provide instructions on how then to use their plugin. Save your game to make sure that AGS remembers that you want to use the plugin.

Ah, the manual. You should try reading it! It'll save you some time.

I'll host you: http://www.igreiga.org/webhosting/web_hosting.html Just sign up for the free plan, then contact me and I'll freely upgrade you to the Bronze plan.

If I remember correctly, after saving with ArtGem you can use a separate program to convert the file to a more standard format.

If you only need to fade for one particular room, you could fade to black like normal, then change the background frame (SetBackgroundFrame) to an all-black frame, then fade in instantly (the player won't see this fade-in), display the text, then fade out (the player won't see this fade-out), change the background frame again and fade back in.

You could also make a background frame that already says "Ten minutes later".

edit: Oh, Thomas's code would probably work too
