I finished Breakdown, but I'm currently stuck in Dead in Space.

Spoiler

I've taped the loose wires, found the tools, the panty hose, the keys, but the keys won't fit anywhere.

Where can I find the right keys for the cockpit?

I'm not sure if I counted correctly, but I think we're up to 26 entries!

Might be a record...

Thanks for the pointers.

When I'm further with the spaceship, I'll revisit the space background based on your comments. Their very helpful.

I didn't progress much, just changed the 'fin' to make it more submarinish, and added some very minor, early shadings and highlights.

I removed the windows as they made it look too small. I'm still thinking how I can make it look huge, like a space 'Titanic'.

The colours are not definitive also: I'm pixeling it in greys, and when I have a good colour scheme, I'll update the drawing. But first getting the lines right.

What immediately springs to my attention, is the contrast between the crisp lines of the fence and buildings, and the blurriness of the grey area.

Some extra pointers:
If you make the buildings in different shades of dark grey, you can create a better feeling of depth. Adding some windows with light coming out could be nice too.

The Gimp is the closest thing to Photoshop, that's a start.

Just a thought, but would the snake's head move back towards its body like that? Wouldn't the head move forward, then the body follow? We don't have any snakes where I live, so I wouldn't know, but it looks a bit like he is stretching and then shrinking back rather than moving forward.
Hope that makes some sort of sense!

Yes, he would, but he's now walking in place. To really judge the animation, we should see him move across a screen.

The first concept of my spaceship:

Heavily based on a submarine drawing I found online. I'm planning to make the details & colours steampunk-themed, combining two genres I love: steampunk and sf.

Any early pointers & suggestions are welcome. I especially trying to think of ways to think of how shadows work in space.

I changed it a bit based on your suggestions. Thanks!

I like the added colours: orange, red & purple. I hope it's not too 'loud' now.

Still to do:
- add 'twinkle' animations
- add other objects: I tried adding a spiral but if I try to keep it small, it looks too much like a swastika.
- adding the foreground.

Anyone got any experience with PyGame?

I really like the Python language, so if the PyGame library is any good, that's a great option.

Nice start.

Some pointers:

The blues are a bit too pastel. They should probably be darker, more purple.

Try to play a bit more with your lines: the light from the window casts straight lines on your wall, maybe make 'm a bit less straight.

Add some shadows underneath the desk and other furniture: even though it doesn't get direct light, they get indirect light, which will give shadows.

This is bit of an exercise, I don't have a game idea for this yet. It's mainly to try stuff and learn a bit.

This is the backdrop for more, probably a space station or space ship.

My main questions are:
Are the colours right, are there other colours missing?
Can I make this more interesting without drawing away the attention from what is eventually going to be in the foreground?

I have never coded in AGS, but I'm a programmer. What's wrong is the following: your if-statement is outside of your function.

Try this:

Code: ags

function_RoomLoad ()
{
   hCScreen.Enabled = false ;

   if (player.HasInventory (iPockettranslator)) {
      hCScreen.Enabled = true;
   } else {
       hCScreen.Enabled = false;
   }
}

Which you could even simplify to:
Code: ags

function_RoomLoad ()
{
   hCScreen.Enabled = false ;

   if (player.HasInventory (iPockettranslator)) {
      hCScreen.Enabled = true;
   }
}

Me too. I pixeled it, based on the letters people before me used.

Some letters were missing, but I just slapped together some pixels.

Sjeesh, SPC's group picture is getting rather big. You'll have plenty of options to choose from this time, ProgZmax.

Oh, I didn't see the group picture was updated. Nice!

What's happened to his chin now? It seems to have disappeared into his neck, leaving only an unsightly bulge in its place.

He has a fat double chin. :)

Hope the coloured version makes it more clear. I included all steps I took between redrawing the lines till the finished version.

First I coloured him inside the outlines, then I changed the outlines to matching darker colours. The final version has some minor pixel fixes I thought were needed.

Thanks again for the edit, evil. It was of great help & inspiration.

Ooh, she's scary!

Or just misunderstood?  ;)

Suzy is a dreamer. She's not picked much with team sports, as she tends to wander of to pick flowers or chase butterflies.
She is happy at camp, lot's of interesting places, people and animals to have fun with. Or to dream about ofcourse...

I love the group 'photo', SPC. I was planning on suggesting it in my post, but you were quicker than I can post!

It's the gaming equivalent of promising a blowjob from Scarlett Johannson, only to deliver a greasy tit-wank from Ann Widdecombe. It's kind of what you'd hoped for, but you won't want to tell you friends about it.

I just googled Ann Widdecombe and I feel dirty.

Ontopic:
The last Sim/RTS game I played was Tropico II which I liked because it's theme was fun: pirates!

Liked the atmosphere and graphics, but the game play was pretty repetitive.

I grew up on games like Civilization, Dune, SimCity and ofcourse Monkey Island, etc. But since everything must be 3D I really stopped playing much games. I did play CounterStrike for a while, in which I liked the team play (which is non-existent in most servers I must admit).

Still it's true: Civ, Dune and SimCity were trendsetters, new original games. I haven't heard about games creating whole new genres in quite some time.

It could come because the games I want to play aren't there anymore, but ofcourse, the fact that I don't keep track of what comes out and don't have as much free time as I had since I work fulltime, could be another factor.

Yeah, I never understood the point in limiting one's palette. I say go for it, your artwork is brilliant (sorry for not having mentioned that before  ;))

Well, if you do limit your palette, than really limit it, to for example just 6-8 colours like Ben uses in his games. Use it evoke a certain atmosphere or mood.

Back to topic: great artwork, subspark!

I really like the characters, are they inspired by the Indiana Jones style?

How did you do the night/day background? Pixel by pixel or using layers in photoshop?

Based on evils edit, I tried this approach:

I made him slightly taller, & improved his pose based on evils pose.

I used some of your lines, but didn't copy them directly but I did draw them, with your edit next to it for inspiration. That always helps with learning.

I also made him more fabulous.  ;D

Anyone got anymore suggestions before I start colouring?
