Ah.  Problem right there then.  I checked my save games and they're roughly between 500 and 700kb.  And for me, yes, disk space is a real problem.  1MB might as well be 100GB for all the hope I have of obtaining it.  It did seem to run better when I had more memory free; it's just when I saw it complain about the GUI I thought there was a problem in my scripting somewhere.

The most I have is about 10MB at any time.  That's not counting when I'm running any other programs.  Nine times out of ten I have to delete files here and there to free up enough space to even test the game.  Maybe it's struggling.  That only really occurred to me a while ago and I wasn't sure if it could have anything to do with the problem :-[

Yes, it is unmodified; I know it is because I was being thrown out of the game and going straight back in without changing anything.  Like I said, sometimes it works and sometimes not.  I can definitely say now that it's not the clothes thing though; I saved a couple more games and they loaded fine.  I wonder if it's because it's trying to save the game and there isn't enough free disk space...?
#283
Sort of.  I've been playing it over and over, saving the game in different places and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  Maybe it's a memory thing.

I was running through the final tests for my game and suddenly found this bug.  It happens whenever I try to load a game.

There's a point in the game when the character changes clothes.  Up until that point, games load fine.  Whenever I try to load a game that was saved after the change of clothes, however, I get this message and it crashes.  Any ideas?

No, nothing like that.  My computer doesn't shut down so if I want to turn it off or restart I usually have to pull the plug, but that wasn't happening then.???

I think it might be a memory problem with my system; it pretty runs on hamster power.  I've lost large chunks of sprite files more than once before now; I'm starting to think my game's jinxed ::) I'm not sure why it picked that room of all rooms, though.  Luckily it kept the hotspots, regions and walkable areas intact so I was able to redesign it without too much trouble.  It just seemed to be the room image.  I haven't tested it yet (I've only just managed to replace the last of my sprite files) but it all seems okay now.
#286
Oh...wait, it's just appeared but the image and sprites are all shot to hell.  Looks like I'll have to redo.  Never mind :)
#287
It only just started happening and I don't know why.  Whenever I try to load a particular room for editing, I get this message saying AGS has to shut down.  The code is

(Exception 0xC0000005 at EIP=0x005D9D73, AGSE v.2.60.454)

Does that mean anything to anyone and is there anything I can do? It's just this one room; all the others work fine ???
#288
Yeah; I've unzipped it countless times before and since the problem began.  Also, I know for a fact I didn't zip a different sprite file because I only have the one project going (I'm kinda single-minded and this game was almost finished which made it worse  :'() All the room files and programming are still there (thankfully!) it's just the sprites.  I think in future I'll export all sprite files to hard drive, floppy disk and save them on my other PC, just to be on the safe side ;) Backing up all files is very difficult on this computer; at most I have 20MB to play with, and that's only if I close all background programs and don't start anything else.  It runs on prehistoric hamster power :~( Luckily I did keep a file with the animations of the main character, so that's still intact *wipes sweat from forehead*
Thanks for trying though; like I say, I wasn't too hopeful, I just posted here in case it was a bug in the program or something :( Oh well...back to square forty.
#289
Well, I zip all the files mentioned in the 'Backing up your game' section of help.  It's stored on my hard disk drive and most of the time, that works fine; it's just this one time that, for some reason, the file seemed to shrink ???

I posted a similar message a while ago about having problems displaying sprites, but as I was able to restore from a backup, this was solved.  I now have a far more drastic problem.  For some reason, when I backed up my files, the .spr file decreased in size from 3.8MB to 1.2 MB.  I've now lost almost every single character, every single animation I have; as far as the sprite file goes, these no longer exist.  Some of these can (thankfully) be restored from earlier backups, but most are gone.  I'm not particularly hopeful, but does anyone out there have any solution?? I mean, should I start doing backups of the backup files or something?  :'(
#291
Got it!  Thanks! ;D
#292
:) Thanks, that's great.  One little thing; where should I put this code?
#293
(Okay, I know I've been posting a lot of help requests lately, but please bear with me; I've never tried anything like this before :))  Anyhoo...

Is there any way to move an NPC to another room at specific coordinates, like a player character?  Moving when the character enters the room isn't much good; he's supposed to be sitting at a table, and it looks a bit weird if he glides through a table and onto the bench.  Is there some kind of script I can add saying 'when you move him, move him here'?
#294
I mean it kept giving me error messages about the script when I tried saving it *is puzzled* Oh well...it's not too important; it's probably something I missed in the script/GUI.  Thanks for your help though; I'll keep playing around with it :)
#295
Oh boy, it REALLY didn't like that one ??? Thanks anyway though; I think I'll have to go back to the drawing board (ie, a warning in the manual  ;))
#296
Thanks...I think that kind of worked.  I've got the script in place for the buttons but I still can't get the GUI to appear whenever the player clicks on Quit ???
#297
I want to add something to my game that prompts the player to save when the quit button is pressed, something like "Do you want to save your game?" and relevant buttons (yes/no) If they say yes, they're taken to the save screen, then when they've saved, the game quits, if no the game quits immediately.  I've tried a few times on my own but no luck.  Can someone please tell me the script I need and whereabouts it should go?
Thanks! :)

Got it!  ;D ;D ;D Thanks so much!  ;D That was really weird though...wonder what could have caused it  ???
#299
AGS was working fine until yesterday; now whenever I try to start it or run an AGS game I get an Error Starting Program message saying "The DSOUND.DLL file cannot start.  Check the file to determine the problem."  I've checked tem and can't see any problems.  I've also tried reinstalling it but no go.  Any help out there...?  :'(
#300
Yeah.  I should've known better than to upgrade  ::) Sprites 110-117 are used in the game but are viewed as missing by the editor.  It's the same with a lot of the images used in the character views.
