Hints & Tips / Re: Unfair

I need more help with the 2nd part. I've taken notes of everything, tried all the dialogue with the witness multiple times, I have the same court records I had in the first part, and nothing makes sense. My only idea so far

to attack the need for a scholarship

didn't work. I don't see any new dialogues opening. Help please.

Just curious, do games submitted to these MAGSes have to be adventure games? Is is any game made with AGS fair game?

Any tips to progress? I've only found the

and using any items on the witness don't seem to lead anywhere.

All right, this is really a tough choice. All 3 games had certain parts of them that were better than others and it's hard to pick an overall winner.

State of Mind

Spoiler
When I first played this game I thought it needed a bit of polish as I got stuck trying to find the vase due to its black color matching the TV, so it looked like a TV stand. Also some text was skipping when I tried to click through it, and minor things like that. Though the vase issue was fixed before the final release, as well as another bug which I reported. But we're voting on the final version... which I admit would have gone a lot more smoothly without the vase issue. The thing that this game has going for it that the others don't is that it fits the theme recommendation of making a feel-good game. The others do focus on healing, but not in a feel-good way. Overall I found this game to be decent, but easy.

Cutman

Spoiler
I played this game second and I have to say I probably thought that the game was the most fun out of the three. The fighting scenes were pretty polished as were the graphics of the fighting/recovery screens, and it definitely gave me retro vibes. The fighting reminded me of the old Indy games. I kinda wished this game had an auto-reload to last part rather than having a manual save and load but that's just a minor thing. Although in my opinion not quite an adventure game, I had a lot of fun with this and could see where this game could be expanded to be more.

The Potion Master (Gameplay spoilers)

Spoiler
I feel like this was the most polished adventure game out of the 3. Although there were some minor things (the descriptions for the green stone made it seem like it was glued in and meant to be there but the red stone seemed out of place, leaving me to take only the red stone and it not staying in place when I tried it on the bookcase. This led me to pixel hunt for a while for things to do and looking for glue for the red gem when I remembered later that the green gem already had glue on it and maybe that was supposed to hold it in place better somehow? Other thing was the large amounts of herb hunting felt tedious and thought could have been made smoother. Overall, this game's story left me intrigued and the abrupt ending made me wanting so much more. Of the 3 games if a game were to be expanded I'd want it to be this one. I want to know so much more about what happened and what is going to happen. This game in my opinion had the best graphics and polish.

Though the other 2 games were good and I enjoyed their stories, and appreciate the theme of State of Mind being the most accurately represented, I enjoyed the actual gameplay of Cutman the most and for that I'm giving it my vote.

Hi Kitty Trouble!

Thanks for playing the demo.

If you're talking about the Steam version, that issue should have been ironed out now so I would expect the Steam client to show "Update" if you visit the game page now. People who reported this issue to me before have since reported it as fixed so hopefully all good.

The other issue has never been reported and I will look into it. I might contact you privately for more information.

No I meant the itch version, I thought the steam version wasn't out yet, but didn't check for a demo there

Hi! I enjoyed this little game. Just a couple feedbacks on the demo version:

-winsetup is pointing to Snow Problem.exe so it does not work without changing the configs
-using the mouse to click on pre-fall time auto scrolls while you have the LMB held down rather than doing it once for each click, this caused issues for me when tapping my trackpad as it registered 2 clicks.

If I end up getting the full version, I'll provide more feedback then, but the demo levels were fun.

When I started up this game, I expected it to be something outside the point and click genre, but nope, it's an adventure game. You've managed to make puzzles out of patching up a boxer. That's simply brilliant, and good fun it was, too. The presentation is smooth and reminded me of old home systems classic boxing games, while the music made me look for a certain police officer in the audience...guess he's out researching Broken Windows instead.  ;) Congratulations on the highly original release!

I was curious if it actually does qualify as an adventure game. It's probably action/simulation by MobyGames standards, using controls of an adventure game to do it. Regardless I thought the game was polished and had fun playing it.

A couple good entries for the MAGS. I played them today and I'll give my opinions on them during voting.

The Will (Gameplay spoilers)

Spoiler
This was a polished game for a MAGS entry. The puzzles for me were a hit and a miss. Examples: I thought that maybe this game wasn't finished when I couldn't get inside the first doors, but looking at the gameplay screenhots told me otherwise. So after scouring all over the screen, I finally found the solution. The bottom drawer puzzle seemed really out there because I wasn't paying attention to sounds and needed a hint on it. Perhaps a text dialogue saying like "creeeak' or "clunk" or whatever the sound is would draw attention to it more and for those who have their sounds turned down. Was also frustrating that I couldn't just use the broom to get the sponges :P But most of the other puzzles were good, and the graphics were good. I enjoyed the ending.

AGS Werwolf

Spoiler
I was confused by the rules of this. I know of the Werewolf game from Raging Loop but this was all a bit much. There also were no in-game instructions, so I couldn't give this a proper chance.

Masqerade at the Con

Spoiler
Cool idea. I didn't know, or know much about some of the characters, which isn't a huge issue since you can just guess. I would recommend that the game be a higher resolution though, not sure if the images are being stretched but if so cropping them to the correct aspect ratio rather than stretching would make them look better. I enjoyed the dialogue for the most part.

Do we have a theme for August?
#152
I admit I haven't checked the forum in the last few days because I was considering submitting for globetrotting (It's still April here.)

That theme really wasn't my type of thing though. Not sure about museums... I'll have to see if I have energy to make something.
#153
Random question, is MAGS limited in scope to adventure games? Or are non-adventure games made in AGS allowed?
#154
Have any games explored ROTN before lunchtime? Not like hundreds of years but in the short-term.

General Discussion / Username change

I have a new name which I am using for game dev purposes. Would a mod be able to change my name to Kitty Trouble, please, as I would like to release games under that username?

I've previously assisted with a bug similar to this, so I'll double check that this isn't the case for you:

Is there an animation on your sprites where the very first frame is shorter? It uses the first frame's height for speech placement.

For example, if the character was originally sitting, but is now standing, all within the same sprites, it will use the sitting height, not the standing height. If your character is originally sitting, see my response here: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=55189.msg636569818#msg636569818

Code: ags
ViewFrame *currentFrame = Game.GetViewFrame(cEgo.View, cEgo.Loop, cEgo.Frame);
  ViewFrame *firstFrame = Game.GetViewFrame(cEgo.View, cEgo.Loop, 0);
  firstFrame.Graphic = currentFrame.Graphic;
  cEgo.SayBackground("Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello ");

That's an example on how you can solve this issue with changing heights, but you need to remember to re-set the first frame again when you're done.

Recruitment / Re: Offer Your Services!

I would love to work with an artist and maybe a writer on a AGS or non-AGS game. I just took part in the global game jam and I know I can do stuff, I just need help with art. There's a few genres I'm interested in, adventure, zelda-like, maybe RPG (much more involved though), platformers for a simple thing, or something that's unique. I'm a very busy person so this would be in my spare time. Let me know if interested or want to discuss more.

I don't know what most of these events are by just picture description (except the dinos), are eras limited to just those also?

Probably won't submit, but I usually check the themes just in case

Squaretrade has my laptop parts on backorder so I've been without a laptop until today. That means I probably won't get an entry in for this month. Very nice at the pre existing graphics rule change. I hope that rule continues.
