I'm having a kind of 'Bronson phase' lately, rewatching some of those old gems after they had shown all of Death Wishes on tv :)

All right everybody. Take your wildest guess. Hint: the actor in the picture is neither Bronson nor Coburn.

Hey Ghost, I can't believe how closely your idea resembles an old project of mine! It's one of my last years' January MAGS unfinished rooms:

Since I've sent this to maybe two or three users from this forum (and none of them were you), I guess this is nothing more than just one of those strange coincidences that happen in life :) I guess it just shows how difficult it is to come up with something *brand* new in our times.
All those writers repeating "all the stories were told already", and so on, and so on... ;)

Anyway, very nice lo-res, as usual.

PS: Sorry for misleading the thread! Glory to all past, present and fure MAGSers!;)

It's Hard Times with James C. and Charles B.!

Props for all the folks that took part in the competition!
My nominees are:

Atmosphere: Kastchey
Composition: Kastchey
Functionality: MeditativePixel
Technique: MeditativePixel

@Ilyich: Thanks:) I shouldn't have entered the the competition anyway. I did only 30 or 40 % of the work that I should do on that one :/

Here's my entry. Seems like me and Cerno had similar idea with the tracks :)[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/sqU0KTQ.gif[/imgzoom]

Hmmm... there are some (previously unseen) white pixels beyond my outline :/ I'll try to fix that ASAP...

EDIT: I honestly have no idea what's causing this. It's perfectly clear in PS before saving to gif. I'll try to convert it using different preferences.
FIXED :)

I've sketched this yesterday, but I'm afraid I won't have time to finish it before the deadline. It's pretty much useless for AGS right now. I had this image of woman weeping for her demon-lover stuck in my mind all the time and I'm thinking she sent me wrong way with this background :/ Well, so much for my effort :)

Everyone shut up VWG is talking.
(...)
Are you quoting Neverwinter Nights design doc? :)

I was thinking it could as well be Mass Effect or Dragon Age (those campfire talks!) design doc :D It sounds definitely 'Biowarish'.

EDIT: I forgot to mention: that Hemingway-abusing quote is pure gold :)

I also liked Rocky IV for different reasons.
Rocky VI sends all the other Rockys down for the count  :-D

Yeah, I second that. I'm voting for Scavenger's Silent Predators.

Belated congratulations to Miez and to all the other participants! That was such a cool theme for Background Blitz.

(Also, the pine trees are very stereotypically cartoony. That's fine if that's what you want to go for; otherwise, you might want to study some photos.)
Yeah, I guess you're 100% right here. I used references only for the willow, the cartoony pine tress are straight from imagination. My only excuse is the whole piece was rushed, since I decided to participate when the competition was nearing its end:)

@CaptainD - No worries, I like your background anyway. Its photographic style reminds me of the first original adventure game I've purchased. It was called 'Tajemnica statuetki' (Mystery of the Statuette) and it was the first Polish adventure game ever (as far as I know). Check it out here:

It doesn't look very impressive now, but it was lot of fun back in the old days. It was also a bestselling game in Poland in 1993 :D

Hey, this looks cool. I'll try it out next time I'm animating my doodles:)

BTW, how's the progress on your spy game skuttleman?

Then it's decided -> Snarky's turn!
Oh yeah, THE AWARDS... wish I could be home tonight to witness all the tension & drama :) Hopefully this will get recorded somehow.

@ Armageddon, Miez - thanks, I'm glad you like it!

Idea: Kastchey. Your execuction is very bold and convincing! The whole idea of a temple of spider-god would make a great addition to a horror game, lovercraftian or not. Speaking of lovercraftian, the orange/black palette reminds me of underground parts of the first Alone in the Dark game;) This is a definitely positive association.
Atmosphere: Miez. I like the calmness oozing out of it, the mountains far away, the unreal lighting, the two moons that hang in the sky. Cool.
Design: Miez. It's a rich and at the same time very 'clean' design. I'd surely like to see that coming to life in Fountain of Youth :)
Composition:  Lasca. Simple but powerful composition. I lke how the vanishing point is placed in one of the 'golden points' of the composition.
Functionality: Lasca. It looks like doing the walk paths in your background would be painless :) I can also easily spot the areas which would make exits to other rooms.
Technique: Miez's low-res kung-fu is so strong, it's really hard to point out what could be improved in his background.

@CaptainD: Props for the mood. You could add a few glints of light to the surface of the nearest stone to help link the campfire with the rest of the background. But even without it this looks ok to be used in a game:)

Well, Trampoline guessed it first, when he said the title sounds similar to S&R's favourite addiction. So Trampoline, either its your turn now, or, if you wish so, you can lay this burden on Snarky's shoulders.

And you're perfectly right Snarky. Both times - Kelvin's wife IS auburn. I don't know why I've said she's blonde, it's been a while since I saw Solaris I guess. Sorry for the misleading :)

I'll shed some light on this matter.

Thank you Lasca, Waheela :) This is a such an awesome theme for doing background blitz! I can only wish that each one of us taking part in the competition could (sooner or later) make a game that includes her/his 'old religion' piece ;)

I feel I should give it more attention but i'm too tired right now. I'll just call it a day. Gotta get some sleep.
