So here's where this thread was hiding! Somehow I couldn't find it before, and now accidentally stumbled upon.

I'm from Poland. I have some artistic background (traditional, new media, also literature). I've played quite a lot of adventure games since early 1990s. My virginity was taken by The Secret of Monkey Island (that was a major virginity-stealer back in the days, wasn't it?). My favorite adventure games are: Syberia, Machinarium, Sanitarium, Blade Runner. I also have a soft spot for Spellcasting series.

I was thinking of making my own games for a couple of years now. This thinking, along with games like LeWoltaire's Second Face and Ali's Nelly Cootalot, was what brought me to AGS community. I was like others in this thread, lurking around the forums for some time (a year or two) before I finally decided to try my luck making games (now that I have some time)...

Which reminds me: I've already made one game, for 2012 January MAGS competition (theme: Pub).

How long does the voting period last?

Yeah, how long is it, one or two weeks?
#163
I've played them all and voted!

C'mon AGS people, play them and cast your vote! This is not politics, you can't go wrong with playing MAGS games (or can you? ;))

I believe the deadline is in couple of hours or so. Suddenly I gotta leave for few hours now but I gave my permission to ddq to upload and post a link to game asap. His putting the last touches right now... Anyway, if somehow goes wrong or something, blame it on me! Ddq was brilliant all the way and my kudos to him.

With ddq's help I keep on fighting, hopefully we can pull it off before deadline. I have some speech yet to translate, but all the graphical assets are in the game (they're still to script). Oh, and I had to scale it all down, so even if I make it on time you won't be seeing this first screen (even though polished now) I had posted before. This is gonna be a short one room game.

PS: Kasander, thanks a lot. And now please tell me what you need help with!

I had some basical problems, like with GUI, some animation issues. It hindered any progress and I couldn't get past it. Too much to describe here... At the moment I'm writing a "what to do" list. Fortunately, ddq - who was offering his help in February MAGS thread - agreed to lend a helping hand so hopefully we can pull this off. But if there'll be some obstacles we can't get by, I won't hesitate to ask for your help (thanks ;) )!

Thank you very much for your kind words guys. I really apreciate this :)

BTW your game looks beautiful Kasander! Did you do that on a tablet? It looks so nice, like colored pencils or pastels.

Yes, I couldn't imagine drawing this amount of rather detailed 1024x768 backgrounds that I'm doing using mouse. I would get bald and raise my grandchildren sooner than I could finish any background! ;) Once I knew a guy who could draw some really sick-detailed stuff with mouse... But that was black&white, lo-res and happened in the previous millenium. ;)
There are some real "analog" pencil lines you can see in this pub of mine (for ex. on the barrel), this is all what's left of the original pencil sketch. All the rest is done with tablet, most of it in Photoshop, but that pastel feeling is "thanks to" Corel Painter I'm trying (I ended up erasing most of it as I wasn't too fond of the result).

PS: Atelier, I've decided to do as you said and look for some scripting help, so don't write me off yet!;)

PS.2: Well done Ghost! ;D

Well at first i thought of "draw a fish that is walking up a staircase while smoking a cigar", but that was too stupid

Agreed. The cigar would make it ... less marketable:

I bite the dust too. Contrary to you guys I had a lot of time to make it but AGS scripting is just too $&*#@%* complicated for my anti-logical newbie brain. I guess I should learn all about scripting in the first place, then do all the graphics, not the other way around. I'll post this pub I've drawn to show my take on the subject.

Awesome! There's over a week left to finish, will this be enough time for everybody?

Can I answer this on, let's say, Wednesday? ;) I'm quite positive about finishing my game in time, but the hardest parts of the work are still ahead. As for now, I can honestly say I'm about 60% positive that I'll make it on time (that is, until February the 7th, right?). That is if I won't slip on scripting (and AGS in general, being a newbie) too much.

I know I said I work 8-14 hours a day on my game before, but sometimes it comes down to just few hours daily because something gets in the way, like in everyone's life. Anyway, some of you guys said you were envious about this huge amount of spare time I have, but there's also the other side of the coin: this comes thanks to being unemployed. Apologies if it looks like I'm spilling my guts here, I just wanted to explain this rare phenomenon of spare time :) Can't say I recommend this kind of "dedication to gamemaking" ;)

Thanks! Here's a nice site with in-game video to jog the nostalgia memories:
http://www.fantasy-art-and-portraits.com/fantasy_art_arcomage.html

I'll check it out, thanks. Actually I was thinking about reinstalling one of later M&Ms for a moment (I've spent less than hour with M&M IX for example), but I had to supress and strangle this thought... Not without shedding a tear though ;)

This must be one of the largest MAGS ever! What's in the pipeline, eight games?

I think it's nine actually:
Ghost
Ponch
miguel
spud
slapstick
gameboy
Kastchey
Ekeko
Kasander.

The more the merrier! Maybe it's too late now to call ourselves The Magnificient Seven, but we're only one participant short of being The Ten Commandments ;D

Sorry, I couldn't help myself :=  It's just too late, I'm too tired and I still have my pub to draw ;) Now, back to work!

PS: BTW Ghost, as a a longtime fan of M&M series, I'm looking forward to playing your game. It's so strange that I can't remember this Arcomage thing... Time bites, I guess.

+ 1 for "Why not call it a week". ;) That would be great!

Seems I forgot to say hi in my first post on the forum.
Hi everyone! :) And thanks for welcoming me Atelier.

How about a little interim report from the "rest" of the participants, too?
... and maybe a screenie ?
... and ...
I would love to get some information about all the MAGS-games in work  ;)

I have screenplay ready, more or less all plot, scenes and dialogs, and that's about it. The first (of six) room isn't even done. No scripting, just two characters ready (should be 20-30), including protagonist (but only 1/3 of her walk cycle is done). You can see her below:

I had overestimated my superpowers a little. It's higly unlikely that I'll finish it on time :/ Working on it as I do now, 8-14 hours daily, I would need at least 3-4 weeks. I still need to learn a lot about AGS, I'm halfway through Densming's tutorial.

First, conceptualise your game following the month's criteria (see top). Second, create your game fueled only by coffee.

I can easily meet first and second criteria, but about third, that's another cup of coffe (since I'm greenhorn in AGS). Nevertheless, I would like to participate in this month's MAGS.

I don't want to spoil too much about my game, and some things are still to decide. But this I know for sure:
- the protagonist is a young girl from 1910s-1920s
- the game will take place in a dreamy, weird world
- there will be an inn in it ;)

I have another (non-AGS) project on my mind at the moment, but I'll do my best and will try to make it on time.
Cheers to all the other participants! ;D
