Hari's portrait was not based on Emma Watson but damn you're right! It had not occurred to me, but she does kind of look like her.
When I draw portraits, I try to avoid looking for inspiration among celebrities as this would likely seem somewhat derivative... I guess I have accidentally failed at this one, haha.

Many thanks for the wonderful feedback guys, it's amazing to see the game being so well received despite the obvious rushed parts.

We are indeed looking to work on an extended version of the game, not only polished up but also with more content.
(And with a lot more news in the terminal, Ben :) )

Many thanks for the review! :)

I'm happy for aikex222 to host the next competition if he likes :)
I post with a speed of a wounded turtle stuck in a pool of strawberry jam anyway, which doesn't help hosting competitions ;)

Also,

Lol! Cast your puny little fears aside, and show true faith. Doctor Fghnyhg'thg will sort you out in no time.

A sacrificial site raised in an attempt, most likely futile, to please a certain resident of this charming realm. Special guest appearance made by Yog-Sothoth in the role of the Greater Faceless (but not Mawless) Eldritch Cosmic Horror.

It has turned out a little more panoramic than I originally intended but hey, if Mr. Faceless is made into player character, the image should do just fine as an AGS background...

I totally second that.

I gave it a go out of curiosity - it doesn't require you to share on Facebook/Twitter, it just pretends it does. Facebook/Twitter login window pops up when clicked, but the main page still proceeds to the download page. I only had to register and activate an account with them, and was instantly given the download link with product key. "Thank you for purchasing HitFilm 2 Express. All restrictions have been removed"

This said, I have absolutely no clue about video editing software so cannot really tell how good the program is :)

Not sure if this is the colour depth and the level of details you're looking for, but from the way the awesome starry background is shaded, it might seem so.
Agree with Matti and the others that the filling could use a lighter tone; also applied higher contrast and saturation to match the background. The chocolate pattern on the top of the real Milky Way I looked at :) was a bit more asymmetric, so I have slightly tweaked it in the picture.

A quick comment re characters standing out too much. I'd say this is mostly because of the backgrounds having high colour depth and very light outline, and the characters exactly the opposite - minimum colours and heavy outline. The obvious remedy would be what you are trying to avoid (hand made shadows), but perhaps you could try lightening up the outline or blending it with the filler colours?

We have a tie - Miez and jwalt scored two votes each!

In this case, I declare jwalt the winner for the clever use of the given shape and an interesting idea.
The first prize goes to you, along with the honour of hosting the next (hopefully more successful) coloring ball!

The second prize goes to Miez for his stunningly beautiful futuristic landscape.

Thanks both for participating, and everyone else for votes and comments. See you in the next round!
(and apologies for the horrible slacking on my part, the last two weeks have been a bit more busy than usual..)

Awesome Miez, it was worth the wait!

The competition has now been closed for new entries, thread open for voting until the 25th of August.
#691
Cool, waiting for your entry Miez.
#692
Hey, no worries :) No need to feel bad over something that's just for fun.

I'll be closing the competition tomorrow as planned, so if anyone is still working on an entry, you still have more than a day to make it!
#693
Anyone still working on an entry? Nicky?

Also, I've added trophies to the main post :)

I think the problem here was the difference between American and European date format - MM/DD vs DD/MM.

To clear up all the confusion, I'll make August 18th the new deadline, and try to whip up some trophies in the meanime :)

Brilliant! Love your use of the given shape :)

And it's completely fine to use a single colour background instead of transparency.
#696
Before it's closed off - Ben, the lighting and color depth in that upper right shot is stunning.

So, it took long enough but here it is! :)

That Place Past the Woods

Theme:
There is a place past the dark, thick woods that would surely attract anyone's attention... or would it?
Use the shape to picture a building: a house, a castle, a cottage, a shrine, a hostel, a police station, a zombie breeding farm.. anything!

Rules:
1. You can rotate or mirror the shape.
2. Very minor alterations to the outline are fine (1-2p).
3. You can use any of the two supplied outlines. I originally made the big one, but realized it *may* be too big to be fun for low res artists.
4. Waiting for submissions until the 9th of August.

Have fun! :)

Edit:
Trophies added:

Gadzooks, I completely forgot! Sorry guys, had a lot of things going on in the past couple of weeks.

Will come up with something soon.. I mean, for real this time.
#699
Pff, okay :) You want them, you got them.

So first the title..

 ............

...so I finally decided to go with:

I have tons of other things to do at the moment, but couldn't resist this theme... curse you, Miez! :)

Will the classic 320x200 do or should I pump up the 40 extra pixels?
