There were two different cartoons, so... I just can't remember which was called which. One was definitely called `The REAL ghostbusters`. I expect that's probably the one you're talking about, seeing as it's quite clearly not the real ghostbusters and they were giving it an ironic title :P

Coming from a guy with YuGiOh as his avatar, yes, I don't think you're qualified to join the grown ups in their discussion about how great the 80s and beyond were ^_-

Right, I'm good at this because I've had this discussion about 100 times before (several at least on this board alone, I'm sure) so I can cut straight to the chase with my list :P

Mysterious Cities of Gold - always my absolute number one show ever, able to inspire pants wetting and screaming at just the mention of it's name. No longer holds the same mystique for me now that I own the series, unfortunately, but it's still amazing.

Ulysses 31 - Coolest opening ever. Very close to MCoG. I call him Space Jesus!

Bell and Sebastion - Not too many people remember this but I always had good memories of it so I delight in telling people the name when they're like `OH! OH! That show...! With the dog and the orphan boy in the mountains trying to find his mother...!!!`

Transformers/Voltron/Thundercats/Robotech(Macross) - I stick these guys in the same catagory. Fighty team of people, often in space, machines involved usually...

Astroboy - Clearly doesn't need to be mentioned but since I brought up Macross it would only be fair.

Fraggle Rock/The Muppet Show/[old skool] Sesame Street/Muppet Babies - these pretty much go together for obvious reasons

The Wuzzles - I'm so happy I was able to find an avi of the opening. This show rocked. It was WELL animated and fun. The opening song is rocking.

Willow the Wisp - Anyone? Maybe it was just me. Odd show.

Ghostbusters - I was a bit of a sucker for this show. By the way, I'm talking about the couple of guys and the cartoon Slimer. Was it the Real Ghostbusters? I can never remember which was which.

TMNT - I used to adore this show. One xmas, my list consisted of nothing but TNMT merchandise (what did I get? Barbie dolls. Of course.)

The Magic Roundabout - I have a serious thing with this show. Me and my fiance... it's like a link that will tie us together forever, even when we hate each other. I'll just say, `Don't leave me! Remember Dougal!` and he'll have tears in his eyes as we remember that creepy carnival music together. Incidentally, I heard they're making a 3D version. I've even seen pictures but whether it was true or not, I can't say.

Catweazel - Did anyone else watch this? Weird.

Bagpuss - I always associate this with Catweazel, strangely enough.

The Banana Splits - Odd show.

Babar - My absolute most adored-in-a-lovely-kind-of-way show.

He-man/She-ra - If only these two could somehow combine in some way, producing young that was a combination of the two. Wow, most fantastic warrior ever.

Danger Mouse - Not my personal favourite, but it had it's moments.

Count Duckula - Awesome show.

Inspector Gadget - Enough said. We all know.

The Last Unicorn - Yeah baby. Again, making a new movie of it, but live action. I tell you, it looks AMAZING too. What's more, the original fucking voice actors are playing the same characters. Seriously, how cool is that? Angela Landsbury and Christopher Lee are finally old enough to convincingly play these characters they gave voices to a couple of decades ago.

Since I'm on the subject of movies... Goonies/Labyrinth/Neverending Story/Return to Oz/Dark Crystal/Bedknobs and Broomsticks/Flight of the Navigator/Secret of Nimh/all the Ewok movies and, well... others.

The Wizard/Big - Two of my fun childhood movies. Both silly, loved em both.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit - History.

Howard the Duck - weird, but apart of my childhood nevertheless.

Little Monsters - anyone remember this? I got the idea of putting gladwrap over the toilet bowl from this movie. Boy, was my dad happy when April Fools rolled around that year.

ALF - Not a movie, but... I used to love ALF, I'll admit it.

Round the Twist - Was very good at the start, got crapper and crapper as they replaced more characters and started using original stories.

Out of the World - a show as cool as the name suggests with an awesome opening and ending song.

The Wizard of Oz - the animated series, originally from Japan. Best adaptation of the books ever.

Vicky the Viking - what a dude.

Here are some things special to me as a very young girl, some you'll know, some obscure:
Rainbow Bright
Strawberry Shortcake
Carebears
My Little Pony
Candy Candy - had this on video. Now I'm in Japan, I can search for the elusive manga.
(and some less special ones)
Cricket's Clubhouse (or something)
My Pet Monster (I still sing the theme tune to this occasionally)
The Berenstain Bears (spelling)
Lucky Luke

These are what I call my Primary School 5 o'clocks. They'd be on TV after I got home from school, and were often only short 5 or ten minute shows clumped together:
The Trap Door
Roger Ramjet
Banana man
Fat Tulip - This one deserves a special mention. Tony Robinson narrating a story about frogs in a garden. There were no 'characters' in this show other than the suggested. He'd run around all over the place telling a story in the absolute best way a story can possibly be told. This is where my love for Tony Robinson sprouted. If you care, here's the website: http://www.foylesystems.com/index.php?view=Fattulip
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Monkey
The Line Man (buying DVDs of this soon)
Pingu
Mort
There are two shows here I can't remember the names of, unfortunately. Both clay animation. One was a pink thing and a brown thing and the theme song went, `A a a a e e e e i i i i`. Yeah, you know the one. That foreign show. The other show featured 3 little clay dudes that changed shape and did stuff. They remade it recently and it wasn't as good.
Gumby
Alias the Jester - A big childhood crush of mine. I wanted to do really bad things to Alias.
Henry's cat - I want Henry's cat to be Kinoko's cat. http://www.henryscat.com/
The Ratties - Rat-rat-ratties!
Superted - Good old Spotty.

These are my `middle of the day on a weekday` shows:

T-bag series - Fucking - amazing. These shows deserve some kind of award for pure creativity.

Captain Pugwash - The CP song is still my incoming mail sound. Wish it was on my phone.

Puddle Lane - Fun, and awesome.

Mr Squiggle - perhaps this is just Australia, but if you never saw this show, you missed out.

Woof - A boy who can turn into a fluffy dog. Hilarity ensues (yeah, I know, that line is way overused...)

These are `Not so childhood` childhood shows:

Twins of Destiny - Not so much a childhood memory because I was probably in late primary school or early high school while I was watching it, but anyone who's seen it will know what a rocking show it was.

Elly and Jools - Spooky show about a boy and the ghost of a girl who was killed. They pretty much have to find the murderer. Rather sad.

Ducktales - LOVED it. Especially the movie. Gold fever, mmm.

Darkwing Duck - Excuse me while I think naughty thoughts.......... thanks. I had a serious crush on Darkwing, after I saw the episode where he became a super ... ah, well, I won't get into it. It was great show.

Charlie Chalk - I can still sing the opening, and I still remember an episode where a recipe book washed up on the shore (oh yeah, Charlie Chalk was a clown washed up on a deserted island with lots of people) and they decided to have a feast. Of course, every dish was made out of bananas.

Titch - I love Titch. tich, and Tail-cat.

George and Martha - Not a childhood show at ALL but it's one of the best ever so it needs to be mentioned.

Archibald - Also awesome like George and Martha

Well, that's not everything but I'm a bit sleepy now so I'm gonna leave the list at that.

EDIT: I chose to omit Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera stuff because... well, I just mentioned them here, really. There's too much to list seperately.
#1023
That's pretty bad but stuff like that happens all the time, I'm sorry to say. You wouldn't believe how many cases similar or worse than this happen every day.

EDIT: I wouldn't really blame the neighbours in this. They didn't know, how could they? They see someone's on the gound, they push it back in the mailbox. I do that sort of thing all the time. How are they supposed to know, if they even heard the cries, that it meant the mother was dead? Kids cry all the time (I've lived next door to kids that age before. The only strange thing would be a few days of silence). The kindergarten, well... is that strange? I think it's amazing enough they called at all. People don't always go to these things religeiously and I'm sure they have plenty to deal with already and probably just assumed her absence was one of a thousand other much more likely reasons.

Not meaning to pick at you, but I think it's unfair to judge people in cases like these. When you think about it, there was nothing really obvious. Most of us don't live in a society where all our neighbours know us and everything we do. Unfortunately I do so I can tell you it ain't the romantic, friendly scene you might imagine (it's alright sometimes but mostly annoying. I like my city girl privacy).

Henry's Cat is one of my favourite childhood memories.

General Discussion / Re: Serenity NOW!
Wed 19/10/2005 13:17:24
Wow, you people that said it's the best sci-fi adventure... I have to wonder just many sci-fis you've actually seen/read.

I just saw Serenity. It was one of the only things I wanted to see this year, and boy was it one of the hugest disappointments I've had this year too (and heck, I came to Japan!).

Sorry but it was Buffy ALL over, with some Angel thrown in for good measure, and then dusted off with 'Friends'. Then someone coated it in the essence of Evenesence (however that band's name is spelt).

It was somewhat entertaining, but I kept waiting for it to take off and it -never- did. The dialogue made me want to strangle the characters. The dialogue was like watching an episode of Friends ... but in Space. The characters were ... and I don't bitch about this sort of thing a lot because I usually find people say it for the hell of it without really considering whether it was such a bad thing ... but it was so cliched. The characters, the plot, the dialogue. The story wasn't interesting at all!

One thing that struck me was that they put a lot of dead ends into the movie. What was the point of the girl again? It seemed like she went the whole movie just for that last scene which was... well, what was even the point, besides a blurry fight scene? Seems like the movie was over before all that happened.

I could go on, but yeah... dis-a-ppoint-ment. It was okay, but not worth seeing again. I'm just glad I didn't waste any money seeing it (or too much time downloading it!).

I love when people start posts with "hi".
#1027
Wow.

Cirque de Zale may well be responsible for hundreds of missing people all around the world, deciding to get themselves sent to other dimensions.

Or possibly, yet another circus. What's worse?
#1028
Playing Tony Hawk gets like that. Mind you, I hate most of that music front the outset.

It depends though. A lot of Jet Set Radio's soundtrack is licenced and I could listen to that stuff over and over. In fact, I used to play the game JUST to hear the music over and over.
#1029
I'll be honest with you, I think a petition would do more harm than good.

They're better off just finishing the game privately and releasing it much much later when the fuss has died down. Don't have a webpage, just leak it and let nature take it's course. Change the names and whatnot to be safe if you like.

I think the best thing we can all do is draw as little attention to the project as possible. A petition will just let Vivendi know they have a "fight" on their hands.
#1030
As illogical as it might be, I have to go with torturing animals as the thing that inspires hatred inside me.
#1031
Can someone post some screenshots or something (seriously, you won't get sued for that. A couple of pictures - call it `satire` and everyone's happy). I'm really interested to see what the characters look like since some people say they're anime inspired and some don't.

I'm an expert so I'll settle the debate ^_-
#1032
I have to say I don't think this is gonna help either. I mean, by all means try but a company like this in a situation like this don't just go, `Aww well shucks, you guys seem to like it so much, I guess we'll let you go for it`.

Not trying to be negative but I just think that's the reality of it.
#1033
Man, that rocks Gil! :D I was falling asleep at my desk and you gave me a much needed laugh.

My own 2 cents: I read cesarbittar's reply and I was like, `Wow, that's pretty impressive!`. Then I read alucard's reply and was like, `Hmm, he makes a damn good point`.

I never even knew about this game before it was cancelled, let alone followed it so I never saw any of it for myself. Okay, Al is being harsh but at the same time, he's entitled to an opinion. You guys don't have to get so worked up about it.

To be honest, if someone was doing a remake of a game I held true to my heart and putting a HUGE amount of effort, and yet was taking it in a direction I didn't like, I'd be pretty annoyed.

An amateur game author has every right to do whatever the heck he likes with his own game, but respect that other people have every right to an opinion. Just because it isn't soft like, `Oh, it's pretty good! but... `, that doesn't make him a bastard. He has an opnion, you can disagree with it but you don't have to hate him for it.

Of course, it's your right to hate him...

Still, guys, we're talking about a game here. Remakes always stir up controversy and differing opinions. To be honest, I read that dialogue and thought, `Bleagh!`. To me, that doesn't fit in with a KQ game at all. My opinion, and I mean no disrespect to the game author, it was my natural reaction. I may well have enjoyed (/enjoy) the game if it came out (if it comes out).

I was already a geek, he simply made me a productive one.
#1035
I didn't mean the original offer was fake, just the letter to police. And, I didn't even mean that, I was simply throwing the idea of the possibility out there.
#1036
Why, I didn't place that semicolon there!
#1037
I have to agree to a certain... degree (wow, a rhyme!). I get more upset about people torturing animals than people. Logically I can't explain it but I honestly think it takes a much bigger shithead to do something that bad to an animal that a human. The exception being kids or idiotd who honestly don't understand what they're doing (not that I wouldn't slap the shit out of a kid torturing an animal).

Worst person in history? God, that's a big call. I'd say there have been FAR worse people that Hitler in all of history but we tend to think of him because he was in a lot of our personal histories (or at least, very close). I can't even call a leader of a country hundreds of years ago truly evil because a lot of that went on in a time where there was no equal rights or strong laws about war and murder. People often WERE brought up to believe their enemy was far below them so killing them wasn't er, well it didn't carry the weight of what a murder commited these days would, entirely. Also, you have to take into account the honour associated with -protecting- your country.

I don't know. Maybe if I had a time machine (or at least a degree in History)...

One suggestion: Don't airbrush. It's the worst way to shade. Do it pixel by pixel if you have to but it'll look better, I guarantee it.
#1039
I like it, it's very good. The first thing that jumped out at me though is the shading on the pants. So many people make the mistake of just having shading along the `fold` lines instead of actually thinking of where along the leg (or any other kind of clothing for that matter) would need shading too.

Warning about Hippo - They're either a bunch of bastards or just ridiculously slow with responding to emails. They put a link to Cirque on their page but a link directly to my webspace's copy instead of their own. I got REALLY screwed on the bandwidth front so I asked them repeatedly to stop linking to my file but they never responded, which is the reason I had to restrict access to that file except through the AGS webpage.
