Like putting too much air in a balloon!

(Sorry ^_^ Futurama)

I read the topic but... I still don't understand what the hell everyone is talking about. These are ... cards? Like for a computer? You... put them into the computer? Different ones? Or just one?

Then... it... makes it.. so that... I don't even know. How can this affect what programming goes into your game? I don't understand. How could it affect your graphics and scripting to make things more complex?

God, I hate technology.

The thing is that inventory doesn't need to be handled with `inventory` at all. Unless I was making an adventure game, I wouldn't even consider it.

My RPG, for example (thought this probably isn't a solution for you) only has say 20 items, 20 weapons, etc. I have a graphical interface with an icon for each item/weapon/etc and an int for each that keeps track of how many I currently own. When say, an int = 0, the icon isn`t there and the description for the empty slot on my GUI is `You have no blahblahs`.

So what you want to do should be very easy to keep track of using ints for each inventory item, then it just depends on whether you want them represented in your game visually or textually, and how.

I... didn't even know it existed so I'll give it a look, thanks.

EDIT: I just read yours can only use overlays and I need my parallaxing behind the characters/objects/whatnot.

Started using the Parallax plugin for the first time today. I think I have it set up fine, I have a normal scrolling room with 2 parallax "background" sprites drawn on top. The only problem is that as I move my character around on the room, the 2 sprites follow him exactly, ie. Don't move at all. I've tried changing the speed and the position of the sprites and it makes no difference. I have -no- idea what's not working...

For reference, I have this code in the room's "before player enters screen" script:

Code: ags

pxDrawSprite(0, 1, 1, 580, -100);
pxDrawSprite(1, 1, 1, 579, -50);

Well, after many back breaking hours at the laptop today, I came up with this:

or this, I still haven't decided:

I'm pretty happy with this and big thanks to all you guys for giving me the ideas for this part and that part... I think it works but... that could be my sore back talking, dying to be finished with this. ^_^

Actually, it doesn't! Thanks so much Vince! Have the whole soundtrack now ^_^

This is rather obscure, I know, but I figure it's worth a shot. I've been searching high and low but I can't find an mp3 or something of the Skies of Arcadia theme. A friend and I are looking to get ahold of it to do some mixing. The frustrating thing is that I -have- the game. I own it, its sitting on a bookshelf back in my house in Australia and if I wanted, I could go out and buy another copy here in Japan, but as far as I can tell from searching the net, there's no actual soundtrack/CD I can buy.

I've looked all over the net and can't find anything so I'm asking to see if there's any chance someone here has it or knows where I could find it.

If you haven't heard it, it's a -gorgeous- piece of slow orchestral music. Beautiful.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned http://www.moviemistakes.com/

I spent hours on here when I first found it. Be wary.

I concur, that's pretty cool Darth. Well... I'm gonna go to sleep now (damn Howl's Moving Castle... had to watch it tonight), but tomorrow I'm gonna see what I can do with the ideas you guys gave me.

Thanks so much! Sorry my idea was a little hard to understand ^_-

Candle: Gonna have to back Rui up on this one 'cause I don't see what your point was either.
#1072
Erm, not really because... it's not really supposed to exist from any other view than what you're looking at. It's not supposed to make sense.

This is the best I can do. It's a big tube shape, going vertically. This is the way it would look conventionally, with the triangular shaped hole cut into the side of it.
#1073
Death toll is up to more than 18,000 now.
#1074
It's supposed to look just how I drew it, but just tweaked a bit... better. That's all.

It's a tube, just imagine a tube and it has a hole cut into the side of it the shape of a triangle.

The only difference is that instead of looking like the hole should (ie. with the edges curving around the match the shape of the tube) the lines should be straight to give it the appearance of being a seperate entity floating just in front of the tube.

It's not supposed to make sense, as such.
#1075
That bit just determines the speed of the "typing", so it waits the specified time (wait) after typing each character.
#1076
Sorry about that, my description was confusing. Not quite, the triangle is kinda like a hole cut into the side of the tower, only is also has that feel of being disjointed from it, hence the straight lines rather than it looking exactly like a chunk cut out from the tower.
#1077
Yes, that was fixed 2 seconds after the original post. Thankyou for your invaluable input ^_-

I normally don't come here because I like to do the best I can on my own but in this case, I -need- some help!

I have a very simple mock-up of what I'm after here, but I don't know how to execute it. This is basically gonna be a kind of tube-like "tower" suspended in an endless space, with a triangular "entrance" that, instead of being cut into the "tube", appears to be floating over it. It's supposed to look weird, simply put, and not quite right, like an Escher drawing but on a milder scale.

Three main things I'm having trouble getting right.

1) The tube descending into the darkness. I can't figure out how to give it that look of disappearing towards the bottom.

2) The entrance... I made it a straight line trangle rather than wrapping it around the tube for the effect I was after but I'm not sure if it works.

3) The lighting inside the triangle entrance. It's supposed to be like a 3D triangle space inside there, if you get me. Just room enough to enter and... sit, you know. I'm not sure what should be light and what should be dark or how to properly convey this.

Keep in mind this is for my RPG which has standard sort of SNES-ish, cel-shaded-ish colouring so no airbrushing.

Check out this pic for a look at a screenshot of a room that this will be very similar to, style-wise:

I appreciate any help!! Thanks

Same thing, I'm afraid. The first letter appears, then the text box just sits there until I press the button (keyx), then the text box appears for about half a second completed and disappears.

Really? I had no idea!
