AGS Games in Production / Re: Occultas Veritas
Mon 09/05/2005 00:43:52
Ooooooooooh, a really decent looking game to look forward to ^_^ Darth, thankyou. I can always rely on you to produce some great looking stuff!

Those backgrounds are stunning. What did you use to make them, if I may ask...?
#1523
I'm sure this is obvious to everyone but me, but id it possible to have an area with multiple walkways on different levels, ie, The character can walk on the same x/y coords but be on a different pathway depending on where he comes from. Really, I've no doubt it IS possible but I'm not sure how to do it since I've never needed this feature before.
#1524
Awww, thanks man ^_^ Glad Cirque made you laugh!
#1525
It was fun and easy, but... so easy it makes me think there's another path you can take. I don't know. Is that really all there is?
#1526
Ooh! Ooh! Sounds like fun ^_^ Please put Cirque de Zale on too.

Er, you'll have to get it from the games page though (medium length) because it's the only place we've given permission to download from.

Ah, I'm so glad I've infected you Paul. Congrats on the great score in Nanaca ^_^ Those bouncy specials are great...

I myself got to level 9 in Zookeeper yesterday, the first and only time it's happened. Wasn't a great score though. Still, I was proud -_-

Whoops!! Thanks *^^* Fixed.

Oooh, which one? ^_^

No matter what it is, it should be GOOD. I'm one of those people who hates others screaming to "support the industry!" when I think the industry is producing shit. I hate, hate, hate all the commercial adventure games around these days and I'm not wasting my time or money on them. If companies learn to make fun games again, I'll play. I don't particularly care about defining things into genres... I think some games are obviously one or the other, some games blur the line and some games could be said to be  amongst any number of genres. What matters above all is whether it's good (which is objective, or course, but I don't think anything commercial these days comes close in the adventure cataory).

I swear, and I'll keep talking about this game until I'm stone cold dead, but if only some of you could play Giftpia. It's an EXCELLENT example of how a game can be utterly original and utterly fun at the same time. I'd have that games babies if I could have the licence for it. I'd translate it for free if they let me. Anything, so long as it could be released outside of Japan. I think that one game alone is good enough reason for learning Japanese. It pisses me off that great, amazing, heart-stopping games like this are being released in ways that the majority of people can't experience them (or even hear about them in the first place).

Just as long as you don't get it into your head that you're the first to delve into these areas. FP, photo realistic backgrounds, great sound, scary story, immersive atmosphere... it's all been done before. I keep getting the feeling you've only played a few AGS games out there.

General Discussion / Re: NEW SMILE FACES ?

Noooooo, I hate smilies :P I especially hate complicated smilies (the pictures, I mean).

Wow, I got nominated for something? This is the first time I've ever looked at any of these FOREGO threads. *sniff* Thankyou.

Equally adorable ^_^ All you cat people rule.

I think there are a tonne of fantastic, sophistocated, well-made games out there. Plenty of people have used AGS to create non-adventure games too, which I thing is "pushing the envelope" a bit. I'm not entirely sure what you're expecting though. I think there are some great games out there that give commercial games a run for their money, and what can you ask beyond that? I'm currently making an RPG in AGS and, not to blow my own horn (well, a LITTLE bit), I think I'm doing a pretty good job of putting some of the scripting through it's paces.

I think you'll also find some of the more sophisticated uses of the engine's code don't result in some particularly flashy feature, so it's not always immediately obvious where a lot of effort has been made. As it's already been said, graphics/sound/story don't necessarilly have much to do with AGS' abilities but are what make a good, sophistocated game.

Still, more power to you for being ambitious. Make a fantastic game!

I saw that last week sometime and I actually found it to be pretty stupid in most parts. Just... I don't know, too stupid to be really funny. I laughed at a couple of bits though, like, "A boobie?" - that was fantastic ^_^ Oh, and "Touche".

Still, I don't know, it was just kind of over-silly.

Yeah, when I was studying Mandarin I learnt the simplified characters (which don't look as good but they're quicker to write so I don't mind)
#1538
Gil, that's SO cute! Fantastic picture ^_^

I'm not too hot at Chinese, but the first character is cat, right? (Is that an older style character?) The second one is similar but I don't know it... The characters on the right (again, I'm going from my Japanese knowledge so I'm not sure how much is the same) but is the first part the "Year of the..." ? The rest is the 12th of March, I know that much.

Hmm, Year of the Cock/Rooster? In Japanese, those first two characters are indicative of the 2nd sign of the chinese zidiac and the tenth sign of the chinese zodiac so I dunno...

I had that exact problem but luckily I'd read up on it a bit beforehand so I knew what it was. I also had to change things like 'gui' in my script. I typically just put an 'a' on the end of them (don't know why, it just sticks in my head). Oh, and 'static', which was the variable name for a magic spell in my game. I was a bit surprised at that one, but it's understandable I guess.

It's great, I got to the point once where I was too sick of the problem to work with AGS on my good computer. I'd rather use my crappy old P133 and at least be able to test normally. I got over that but I got into the habit of just testing and pretty much instantly ctrl+alt+deleting. Good thing I held off this time.
