I have to say I agree with al on that one. I kinda went 'blech' when I saw the graphics, but it was the characters for me. Still, I'll attempt to download it cause a game that big HAS to be good... surely! ^_^

Thanks ^_^ I hadn't heard of that book, Steve, so thanks, I'll check it out. At the moment I'm reading, among other things, "Hokkaido Highway Blues" which I've really enjoyed. It's all about a previous JET's experiences as he hitchhikes from southern to northern Japan following the sakura front. Very good read.

Hey, Nintendo Japan... I should put that on my "To visit" list ^_^ So far, I'm definitely going to the Ghibli Museum and dining at one of the Iron Chefs restaurants.

That said, I have to keep in mind that I'll be working over there so my holiday time will be limited.

Wheeeeeeee! I got the word a couple of days ago (but have been without a computer all week). I've been accepted into the JET program and will be leaving for Japan at the end of July this year. Waiting that that envelope in the mail was one of the most stressful times of my life. I'm not really as happy as I should be, because it means an awful lot of hardships for me (the biggest of which being living without my significant other for a year, when we haven't been apart for more than a day in over 4 years). Still, I'm happy and relieved, and maybe I'll be posted in Okinawa with Vince! ^_-

Hey, dude, I was totally THERE at that convention.

Wow, though, I wish I'd found that comic ^_^ Where'd you find it? (ie. Which stall?)

Yep, Constantine (now that Michaela is gone - god, I DESPISED her) is now the guy I want to most to be gone next. He just sucks, and he sticks of too much ego.

Bo, on the other hand, is fantastic. He outshines everyone else.

I honest to god can't say I like Lucasarts or Sierra better than the other. Monkey Island is probably what I'd consider to be the grestest adventure game of all time (and among best games of all time) but yes... SO many fond memories of Quest for Glory and King's quest. I remember having played Quest for Glory 1 (or Hero's quest as I called it) I went to a friend's house and he had Quest for Glory 2. It was, at that time, the most enchanting game I had ever played and I was so, so jealous I didn't have it myself. when I finally got the game years later, it was like some fantastic dream.

That being said, the first 2 Monkey Island games, Indiana Jones... so many Lucasarts games just DEFINE adventure gaming for me. I love point and click/text parsers equally, I love the RPG elements/linear story styles equally... just in different ways.

Ahh, and Leisure Suit Larry. The fun of simply answering those questions at the start of the game, and discovering the naughty things you could do, and how many ways you could die. Space Quest 4 was another big milestone for me, I adored that game (space age shopping malls should be in a LOT more games).

That's a Strongbow Sweet in my hand there... mmm. My hair isn't quite so scraggley but that's the best I can do. Oh, and I have a nose.

What's super-cheap by your definition? I for one abhore the price of drinks out. If it equals $2 a bottle of Strongbow, I'm there ^_^
#1593
Wow, excellent! That was great ^_^

I prefer sitting around, eating junk, drinking beer, drinking beer, talking about stuff, having fun, drinking beer...

It's rather like when people try to do real life versions of shows that were previously cartoon. They look so utterly stale and stiff because people just can't move (or animate) the way you can make a carton character move. I agree, there are lots of 3D things out there that tackle this problem REALLY well, just like the Incredibles. I still think the majority of it has a long way to go (Polar Express - blech! Scary shit, that).
#1596
Oh, I wouldn't dream of playing it anything but a console. In fact, I didn't even know there was a non-console version

I just think Sydney sucks :P I hate that place.

I'm in Brisbane and can go... somewhere around Brisbane! Somewhere not too far, and it also needs to be before August for me ^_^; Given these two conditions, I probably won't be able to make it. Still, that's me.

I think a much, MUCH better idea (and do-able) would be to simply create self contained games along the lines of perhaps a Cruise for a Corpse, or Laura Bow style game, that is the online equivalent of a murder mystery board game type... thing.

You could organise with a bunch of friends (or maybe search for people online at any given time who are waiting for people to join in on a game - that would only work if the concept became VERY popular) to start the game simultaneously (the game waits for all involved to join), you all get to be a certain character perhaps and then the game could play pretty much like normal. The exceptions being that you could have an input system so you could talk to each other when in the same room (or maybe if you get a phone or something you could converse between rooms), and that some puzzles need multiple people to solve them perhaps, or that certain NPCs will only give certain pieces of info to certain characters so you need teamwork, or...

Well, I could go on and on, but I'd personally LOVE to play adventure games like this.

I couldn't give less of a crap about the new movies (I do sympathise with your situations though, Vince), but Lego Star Wars! Man, I'm so excited ^_^ It looks fantastic! When I heard about it, I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if when you destroyed things, they shattered into their individual lego blocks?" and "Wouldn't it be great if..." and more - and all the things I wanted are included in the game! 'Course, I'd prefer the game were based around the original trilogy but maybe if this game's a success...
