I'm not finished yet but man, what an impressive game!! I love the graphics, the plot, the puzles so far are neat... excellent. One of the best things I've played in a long time.

I've noticed so far that I don't get a response when trying objects with the poison, which is so far the only glitch I've found. It's a pity the english isn't perfect (it's pretty good! But could use some cleaning up). If your friend wants any help tightening up the spelling and some grammatical errors, I'm happy to help.

It'll happen. I got to like scripting more and more everytime I tried doing something new. Whenever I learnt some new way of scripting something, making something easier or trying something clever, spripting magically become both easier and much more fun.

Part of that is exactly the thing I love about AGS. I knew next to nothing about programming when I started here, and it's the reason I started using AGS. It was just so easy to get a grasp of, and I've learn -so- much since then. Occasionally, I find something inconvenient, but the trade off for pure ease of use and the ability to get started with it in the first place is something I wouldn't want to loose. I think AGS currently has a fantastic mix of being both user-friendly, and customisable.

If you can use C++ (and again, I don't know much about programming so I may be WAY off the mark here), can't you pretty much make your own game without an engine?

No, don't change the water, it's beautiful! Throw reality out the window for this one - the aesthetics are more important, and that water is GORGEOUS. For me, it really makes the picture. I'd love to play a game with that gorgeous water but if it looks any more realistic, it might start to look too dull.

The tree on the left is the only thing that does seem really out of place, but even the really tall trees don't bother me. It looks nice, forget reality. Pretty!

I'm happy I'm not the only one saying programming. Programming, by far, is my favourite part of making the game and it doesn;t make much sense considering that I was never a mathematical person, and I'd consider myself an artist above all. I think my relationship with art was always a rocky one because my personality if definitely more suited to the logical, mathematical side of things. Programming gives me a chance to get that out. There's nothing I love more than problem solving (I'm the least fun at D&D because I desperately want to solve the riddles and puzzles, not just "role play").

Although it's frustrating when a scripting error occurs, I almost get a little happy because I love finding the error and fixing it, testing the game and having it miraculously work like a charm.

The worst for me is animating characters... just... so... much... work. Walk cycles, argh!

Ah, Operation Stealth, this looks like it! Thanks ^_^ Geez, I just searched for an hour at Underdogs and never came across this. I definitely had the European version... I had no idea they turned it into a James Bond game. Ridiculous @_@

General Discussion / Know this game?

I've been trying to remember the name of an adventure game I played once many a year ago. I can't remember the name, but it was, as far as I remember, about a spy called John English (I think. Or John Smith. I'm fairly certain it was 'John'). It actually had the classic computer-generated voice over the text in the game, which I remember loving.  It was text command based, and probably graphics from around the same time as Codename:ICEMAN. Again, from memory... I really am not sure.

At one point, you had to do something like get a man's suitcase, and I'm fairly sure you had to get into a locker at a bank. I also have a memory of getting caught by the 'enemy' and having to get out of a caveUnfortunately, there's not a lot more info I can give about it, I played it so long ago. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Ten multiplied by what?

(Sorry, it's these sinful typing fingers, they can't help themselves ^_^)

How old was he?

I know everyone will hate me for it, but I would personally prefer the 18 age limit be kept for a mittens I'd be attending. It just makes things neat, you're unlikely to get any crap from someone's parents, and drinking wouldn't be an issue.

Still, given that my attendance at this one is up in the air, it's not like anyone should listen to me.

Dargh ^_^ That's what I get for not searching. Oh well, thanks Erik!

(I had a problem posted here but er... figured it out - sorry!)

Since I'm here, I'm curious as to whether there's a room limit. There's nothing about it in Game Statistics.

One other thing, would it be possible to add in a Z-order with GUI objects? I made a GUI with a 'text box' image as the background, added labels on top, but then later decided I needed the text box image to be an object. By then, I couldn't get the new button with the text box image behind the text labels... not a huge problem, but it seemed to me that a Z-order would be useful in situations like that.

I'd personally prefer Arthur have no dealings with romance at all. Romance always ruins good stories, particularly clever, sci-fi themed ones.

Ehehe, ah well, thanks ^_- There's a lot of good competition out there though. With things like Apprentice II and No-Action Jackson, I'm happy to get anything.

Are these things serious? o_O

Given that I'm in Brisbane, it shouldn't be too much of a problem if I don't make it into JET and head off to teach in Japan for a year at the end of July. Even then, if the timing's right, I may be able to come back and make it.

I actually can't believe Cirque keeps getting nominated for things like 'Best graphics'. I mean, not that I don't like my own game but er... it's just rather surprising ^_^;; Especially since I'm in that catagory, and ToaK isn't.

Anyway, I'm still happy! Particularly for being nominated for Best Writing. So thanks, whoever. How is the nomination decided, btw?

I just got really sick of that 'inspirational' music in the flash, I had to shut it off. I can only be inspired so much before I crack.
