Thanks Darc ^_^ Seems good so far.

Well, I wasn't referring to the program as such, but actual communities of people who make RPGs (whatever the program). I checked out the ika/etc forums and... well, they leave a lot to be desired. There just doesn't seem to be anything out there with semi-serious RPG game makers, posting decent, -completed- games, discussing independant RPGs. Well, I can;t find anywhere like that, anyway.

General Discussion / RPG making communities
Fri 18/02/2005 03:36:57
Does anyone know of any decent RPG game making communities? I've been checking out some games at www.gamingw.net, downloaded a whole bunch only to find that each and every one is an RPG Maker 2k game, and hence needs the program itself to play them (which I find utterly annoying and inconvenient, especially seeing as each game is a folder consisting of hundreds of seperate files - blech! This is why I adore AGS...).

99% of the RPGs there are RPGM2k games, and I just can't be bothered with them. Are there any decent RPG game making communities the rough equivalent of AGS? I'd like to see what other people have out there, how much effort people are putting into their games, etc... I just want to be able to download simply exe files and not have to play them through other software.

I must admit, I always have trouble finding the plugins page. If I could make a suggestion, it would be to please make it more obvious from the AGS homepage ^_^

I would like to point out I am not a newbie in this area. I have made and released 5 games commerically, and I make enough to support myself. I know the shareware games market well, and I know my abilities. This game will be released, it will be good, and it will make money. I know what I'm doing.

What are the 5 games? I can only see 3 on your webpage. You REALLY make enough to support yourself? @_@ Pay rent and bills and buy food? Or do you mean that you make enough to make back the costs of production?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, I'm just really surprised because not many people can claim that.

For some reason, that bar scene totally appeals to me. I can't explain why. Perhaps it just reminds me of so many other adventure games with them. Even Space Quest 5... I don't know. All I know is, I like that scene.

I have to say that I agree with SSH here. As soon as I read that they gave you that book, I thought, in a strange sort of way, that's a really good sign. You can't expect them to change right away, and although I get angry at people who aren't totally accepting of this sort of thing, or who try to change people "back", etc... it just seemed kind of sweet in an odd sort of way. Even though I'm sure they want nothing more than for you to turn up with a pretty girl and a ring on her finger, it means that they aren't cutting you off, and they do care about you. At least, that's the way it seems to me. It's their own crazy little way of reaching out to you. I think they probably just don't know -what- they're supposed to be doing, and they just don't know that the way you are IS okay.

I'm not sure I made a whole lot of sense, but... well, I'm sure they love you and want what's best for you.

Or how about a PMS day or something Kinoko? No wait, we're talking annual occasions here. ;)

Now why the hell was this question pointed at me? :P Just because I'm female? I'll have you know I haven't had PMS for over 5 years now, nor any biological cause to (yay, birth control!). If I'm angry, it's because someone has pissed me off by being a dickhead.

Whoops, I forgot to ever go back to this thread again @_@ Yeah, I figured the problem out a long time again. Damn, should have updated.

Oh well, here's my finished code at the end of it. It works pretty well, I think. For what I want, anyway.

Code: ags

it=0; //checks all slots for whether the speechs had expired
while (it<10){
  if (damchar[it]){ //if there was a message for this character
    if (IsOverlayValid(damoverid[it])) { //Is it still displayed?
         sit++;
         if (sit == 3) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-27);
         else if (sit == 6) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-25);
         else if (sit == 9) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-22);
         else if (sit == 12) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-18);
         else if (sit == 15) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-14);
         else if (sit == 18) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-9);
         else if (sit == 21) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-4);
         else if (sit == 24) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y);
         else if (sit == 27) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-7);
         else if (sit == 30) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-10);
         else if (sit == 33) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-8);
         else if (sit == 36) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y-5);
         else if (sit == 39) MoveOverlay(damoverid[it],character[damchar[it]].x,character[damchar[it]].y);
    } else damchar[it]=0; //Expired, mark it as "free"
  }
  it++;
}

It's just that I thought I could make out some words like "bebe" and... well, things I understand to be Italian (with my limited Spanish capabilities). I did consider that it could be gibberish, but good gibberish is hard to come up with, and this did sound somewhat structured.

Ah well, it IS a cool song and I'm just happy I've made some people listen to it ^_^ If only you could play the game! Oh, what a game 'tis.

The coolness of sleeping with hookers fades away? I refuse to believe it, sir!

I just laughed my head off at "Welcome to Ooriko" and "The monsters have been increasing lately" ^_^ Oh, RPG cliches... good stuff!

For anyone who hasn't heard of Giftpia (most of you, I'm sure), it's an amazing game on Gamecube that hasn't been released outside of Japan. Which is a pity.

It means I've also had trouble finding lyrics to the opening theme song, which is a fantastic song, but not in Japanese. As far as I can tell, and given the style is opera-esque... I think it's Italian.

Could someone please download this and translate any of it for me? I'm really curious as to what's being sung ^_^ Or even tell me whether it is indeed Italian... I'm not sure at all. Most of the song is the same verse being repeated so there aren't that many words.

Valentine's Day reminds me of how much I like being single sometimes. :P

I wish more people could embrace it as you have :P Not enough people make the most of single life while they can. Get out, sleep with hookers, eat chinese takeaway all the time and play some computer games!

Yes, Peter, I think you have a pretty valid reason for bitching ^_^ That doesn't bother me. Like you said, just those people that do it -all- the time for the sake of it. I agree that couples can be as bad.

I'm glad yours wasn't so bad.

I'm aware a lot of you may find this topic rather uncaring, but does anyone get sick of listening to their single friends bitch about Valentine's Day? I myself find it a very commercial holiday, and I can go the whole argument of "You should love each other EVERY day, not just this one day" and all of that. I agree. I do. It's just that every single year it rolls around, I could bet a million dollars with 100% security (if I had that much money) on each and every one of the same single friends making the exact same comments about Valentine's Day.

"Well, it's Valentine's Day and I'm alone, AGAIN"
"What a stupid holiday, why do people fall for this crap? It's just created by Hallmark and chocolate companies to ..."
"*SIGH* I decided not to bitch this year but..."

...those are just a couple of examples. I mean, I understand, and I agree, but it's just gone way above "cliche" at this point. They're all great people, they don't seem to care about being single 99% of the time, but when Valentine's Day rolls around, they just have to say it. They have to say -something- and I can almost watch my clock waiting for it.

Like I said, I know it sounds uncaring, but it feels to me like it's been done to death and as if they're just saying it out of habit, or to get the obligatory "Don't worry, you're a great person, you'll find someone". What annoys me even more is when they make a point of saying how much Valentine's Day -doesn't- bother them, but then they talk for half an hour about how much it doesn't bother them. I'd like to be able to occasionally mention that I had a nice dinner out with my boyfriend, but I dare not speak a word for sounding like I'm "rubbing it in", causing them to go on about their one-day-a-year woes.

Phew, just had to get that off my chest really.

Incidentally, I had a lovely Valentine's yesterday ^_^ (man, that felt good to say!)

Personally, I adore the robot. The flame struck me as being obvious because it was less detailed than the rest, but that's the only crit I can give. The robot is gooooooooooooood. What's wrong with a slightly cartoonish look mixed with reality? I think it's -fantastic-. It's like my exact favourite kind of drawing, you go girl! ^_- er, person.

I second that.

How do you keep making these things so fast? o_O Anyway... horray!

I think you're going to need to flesh out your question a little more.
