Hey guys! I did indeed google this, but the results were just confusing and vague so I'd prefer to hear your opinion.

In a month or so, I'll be staying in a guest house with a friend, and we both have laptops and need internet access simultaneously. This place only has, apparently, one LAN cable from which to suck the webby goodness.

My question is what we can do to both have internet access given this situation. I've heard talk of a "cross over" cable but that seems to be for only file transfers, not shared internet access.

I'm ultimately looking for something cheap and simple, because this situation will only exist for 2~3 months.

Thanks! You guys are so smart :D Love ya.

The thing is though, to Darth and anyone else not voting because of this, (said by a friend of mine): You can choose not to affect the outcome but the outcome will still affect you.

Obama might not make good on all his promises but I believe that it will not be because he is "just another politician". And regardless, a vote for him is still like aiming for the moon but being amongst the stars, in the sense that he is still a genuinely eloquent, intelligent, caring and capable man.

I get that you're saying a lot of people will vote for him because he's black, but why make such a point of it? I think that's mostly where people have been taking issue with what you said. I think we could have had any other black man in this presidential campaign and though they would get some "black" vote, they wouldn't do anywhere NEAR as well as Obama. He's winning all kinds of people over and for a very good reason. Many very good reasons.

It makes no sense whatsoever not to vote.

To all you people saying, "He's just a politician", "They're all the same" - I highly encourage you to step back away from that point of view and take a look at the state of things.

Obama may not be perfect, but by fucking george, he is a genuinely intelligent, thoughtful, articulate and well-educated person. For the most part, he strives, and promises to continue to strive for the future, for people, for the environment, for getting America out of so much of the shit that it's in, and for trying to do things in the most practical and smartest way possible.

I... I don't even know what to say. There are a million things that make him a far, far, far, far, far better candidate than McCain.

Be skeptical, sure.  But the decision right now is like the one between eating a piece of delicious-looking cake and a poisoned brick. The cake MAY be past it's expiry date. It MAY have yucky raisins and peel in it. But it probably doesn't. It's probably a delicious cake. But the poisonous brick will just plain suck.

McCain is an awful, awful politician. He is EXACTLY more of the fucking same. I will cry my eyes out if he gets elected.

To talk about minor issues here and there is fine, but don't get caught up in them. We are still talking about the difference between eating DELICIOUS CAKE and A POISONOUS BRICK.

I wish I could do more than just encourage you all to register (if you aren't already) and vote for Obama. I sure wish I could!

Just in case anyone here doesn't read the IndieGames weblog:

The Sense of Wonder Night at TGS

There are a lot of very interesting games here and concepts here. It's very well-worth your time to give these titles a look.

If nothing else, I highly recommend Moon Stories. Gosh, it's lovely, and so, so simple.

Shawn Tan is fucking incredible! and I am lucky enough to own a signed copy of Tales from Suburbia thanks to my friend going to a presentation of his.

He's one of the most innovating and creative artists/writers you can come across these days and if you have a chance to listen to any radio shows or read any interviews featuring him, he really has some great insights into illustration and writing.

Read him, read him, read him!

An IF game I really remember having a good atmosphere was from my Amiga days.

It was about several pirates landing on an island in different spots and you could choose which one to start with, then explore the island. It was the first IF game I played where the top half of the screen had pictures, too.

I can remember there being goblins hiding treasure, and cockles or something in the ocean you could collect and eat. Um, various things like that. It was really fun and I never finished it. I remember it being called something like, "Legend" or "Legend of the Sword" but... I'm not sure at all of that.

Anyone know it?

Go and see a specialist - an ear, nose and throat doctor. Seriously, not just a GP.

My ex had a very similar problem much longer than this, and doctor after doctor had nothing helpful to say about it. Medication would just provide temprary relief, at best.

He finally insisted on getting a referral to a specialist and it turns out, he had a lot of polyps (unsure of the spelling) in his sinuses. He had to go to the hospital overnight to have them removed, but after that, the difference was amazing.

It might not be that but even so - specialist.

Oh, Leather Goddesses of Phobos is one of the best and most under-appreciated text adventures out there. I fucking love that game.

It Came From The Desert is also fantastic. Funny, I never thought of it as being IF before, but I suppose it could fit into that catagory.

One I've started playing recently is Savoir-Faire but I'm almost nowhere in it yet and finally it bloody difficult. It came recommended though.

Anyone else played/playing it?

General Discussion / Re: Game editors

I'm curious about Game Maker, and hopefully, I will get around to playing with it properly, but I am a bit turned off using it for any large projects until they fix some of it's compatibility issues up, which I hear others who use it tell of.

PyGame seems to be coming up in conversation a bit lately and so I am also very interested to look into that.

For the time being, I am learning about and playing around with MMF2 and so far, I'm impressed and I feel quite comfortable with it. Have a problem at the moment with trying to move the screen by x amount rather than setting a definite x and y coord, and having trouble finding tutorials to help me out with it.

But, I am soldiering on. Overall, I like it but we'll see.

Yes, I've always been curious about Python. I've heard so many good things about it but I must admit that I am a bit intimidated by things with no IDE. I've never done just straight up programming like that and I wouldn't know where to start.

I'll take a look at it, sounds good. But I'm curious - how do you find MMF to be limited?

I'm actually a big fan of scripting myself, and so even if the drag-and-drop based software is "easier" to use, I'm not sure if I feel quite comfortable with that idea. Perhaps I have the impression that it's going to be more limiting - but if that's not the case, I'm more than happy to be corrected on the subject!

I'm not really working on another in particular. Or rather a couple of projects. One that I'd like to just finish and get over and done with already is something I started with AGS a couple of years ago. The reason I stopped, apart from being busy with a million other things, was that I was having some basic problems with the way AGS rendered the game. Specifically, in full screen mode, the graphics would be slightly fuzzy and antialiased, and my game requires a very sharp look.

So, that was one of the reasons I decided to give Flash a go.

But more to the point - what I'm trying to do ultimately is find an editor that I can become familiar with. Something I can have confidence in, in the sense that it won't limit me to a particular style of game. Even if I have to spend a lot of time learning a new language, I'm looking for an editor that I can just turn to and start making a game with, before getting half-way through and realising that it just plain can't do what I need it to.

If possible.

So I'm trying out a bunch and seeing how they feel, and I'm very interested to hear about other peoples' experiences, and what their opinions are. I'm not looking for anyone to tell me "use this one", as such :) Just wanna know how you feel about stuff!

For those of you who use, or have used, other game editors, I'm curious about what they are and how many you know? Also, how many different programming languages (or even just normal scripting languages) are you somewhat proficient in?

Right now, I am having a stab at learning Flash (though I've JUST started), I'm also using Inform 7 (what a comparitive breeze!), I'm hoping to get stuck into GameMaker, I'm curious about Multimedia Fusion, and I've just decided to take a look at the new AGS editor and see what that can do for me.

GOD. But this is all to the end really of finding which editor is best going to suit my needs and which I can get a feel for.

So, how about you, then?

I'd buy it...but I'm rather broke right now. Which is sad considering I just got my paycheck. :'(

Haha, don't worry! NOONE can buy it yet. :)

I'm hoping it gets voted in and then it'll be available for awhile.

Oh, whoops!

Thanks guys! Link is fixed now.

MY shirt design on Threadless!

It's my very first one - and it was accepted!

It's been submitted for a "Threadless Loves Drawing" competition and there are a LOT of entries, so I'm not sure what to expect from it. But I hope a lot of people at least get to see it.

Do take a look!

If you like it, if you could see your way to voting, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, that's a great picture you drew there, Kinoko.

Thanks! It's a present for Kenichi Nishi, who wrote and designed most of those games. Yyyyep, he's my friend. */subtlety*

I was really happy to see Birdo feature in the game, he/she's always been a character I really liked. I think it's a really nice touch, having all of these lesser-known but fondly remembered game characters referenced/playing large parts in the game.

Who else is excited about Captain Rainbow?

Anyone? Just me? That's crazy.

It's a new game by the always-amazing company Skip. Perhaps you were lucky enough to play Giftpia, or Chibi Robo, or the bit Generations games, or LOL. Skip are an incredibly creative game company and if you've had the pleasure of playing one of their games, you'll probably be on your way to discovering why news of Captain Rainbow tickles me gently in all my favourite places.

You can learn more about it here, if you try.

I actually haven't found myself so excited about a game all year. And who even knows when I'll get to play it, seeing as it's currently only a Japanese release. REGARDLESS, my veins still course with anticipation. My soul is still just a little brighter for this game existing. I find myself excited just about being excited about this game. It's refreshing.

Do regale me (and indeed, us) with tales of what games in recent times (perhaps so recent that they are current times) have similarly given you a figurative (or literal) stiffy.
