Shh! Some of my suggestions are on the current to-do list, I think.
#2122
I ended up using SCI Studio to alter the existing Monkey Island font (that comes with the MI template). I just did what was suggested - saved OFTEN. Later I used the program again to create my own font for me new game, and discovered I had almost NO trouble when using it on my upstairs computer (more recent computer running XP).

If you'd like the fonts I used in Cirque, with the addition of $, # and .. I think % or something, I'll upload them later. You might want to change the look of them slightly anyway, I don't know.

It's no big deal really, it's something I always use in a game if it's available. I was hoping there might be some elaborate work around for it already (though I wasn't optimistic - I had to ask).

Advanced Technical Forum / Copying save slots

Would it be possible to give the player the ability to 'Copy' a saved game to another slot? You can currently save, restore and erase but I can't think of a way to copy, which I think is a really handy feature (at least, it's something I use a lot because I'm paranoid about software screwups or something).

General Discussion / Re: Jealousy
Tue 10/08/2004 11:50:20
I don't get jealous at all, and haven't for a long time. I think it was a pretty similar kind of experience to what shbaz described. In my case, I just figured out the way people act and why they do it, and I gained an unholy amount of self love :P Plus, I just have the kind of relationship that I'm totally comfortable with and have total faith in my partner and our feelings for each other.

Not to sound like I'm rubbing it in, but I'm just pointing out that these are the things that allow me to throw jealousy out the window.

You took half the clan items with you?? Okay, it's just an imaginary game but if you don't play by the imaginary rules you get the imaginary punishment. Whether it's a game or not, it's gonna piss people off if you don't respect them.

Is it just me or has there been a significant amount of "I'm leaving" posts lately? I feel like there's at least one new one every week. Do we smell? o_O

General Discussion / Re: Play your own games?

I started playing it a bit after starting this thread and it wasn't so bad (I even forgot a couple of things which was both enjoyable and embarrasing) but I had to stop after awhile because it just felt too much like bug testing. I agree though, it's mainly because it's a linear game. I also find myself pulling it apart while I play it, which is actually great. It's been a long enough time since I made it now that I can look at it objectively to a point and pick out even more things that I need to change when making the sequel, or any other game.

I played it again straight after and got full points, all I was missing was the the sub and the soda.

General Discussion / Play your own games?
Mon 09/08/2004 15:51:36
I was just wondering if anyone here with one or more completed games actually plays them themselves. I know that I've NEVER actually played Cirque de Zale. I've played through it quickly probably hundreds of times to bug test and check animations, etc... but I've never once sat down, started it up and then just played it. I keep thinking I should but I don't know if I could.

It just occured to me because I was sitting there working on my new game thinking, "I wish I was playing this right now". I hope I don't have the same reaction to the new game when it's done... I'd like to be able to create something even I can enjoy, despite knowing the complete ins and outs of it and having seen each individual part over and over during the creation process.

Anyway, I just wondered what you other guys were like :)

Just a question (purely out of ignorance) - do threads have to be locked? Can't they be deleted?
#2133
Your game sounds interesting, but you know you can 'Modify' your original posts, right? Well, I guess that's probably a stupid question - but the point is that you can and it will sav you from quadrupal posting.

Hehehe, I am, thanks. ^_^

As for the length of time the message stays up... I've found it just tends to be pretty random. At one point, I thought it was to do with my own button presses when saving, how long I held the mouse button... I don't know. The same message seems to be up for random amounts of time when I get it to appear over and over so ... I really don't know.

John Rhys Davis would indeed make an excellent Le Chuck on that facial expression alone... I'm sure he could probably pull it off, but he'd have to be pretty mean and piratey. Plus, that flesh has to go.

Kirsten Dunst as Elaine?? My god, I'm sorry, I can't think of why that would work in the slightest. Just seems like everyone wants to use that girl in everything these days.

There's a great close-up of what Elaine should look like in the first game (a couple, actually) and I can't think off hand of any famoius actresses that look like that, so best to just find a new one. The same for Guybrush too, there are great pictures in the first game that show what he'd look like. It wouldn't be hard to ever-so-slightly age that picture and give it some stubble, either ^_^ As long as people don't use those awful cartooney styles as guides, I'd be happy. I hate the cartooney Guybrush.

It's so nice when problems get solved ^_^ Thanks guys! (Gee, now I'm scared my games posts will be in trouble...)

I finished first time with 140/150... I don't know what I missed! I closed the drawer... dargh! To come SO close to a perfect score and miss it by only 10. So frustrating.

Honestly, you people. You can make that kind of money from only a couple of days of good prostitution. I don't want to hear any more whinging!

Ah, blimey - You now have my total and utter respect! :D
I remember borrowing Terranigma from a friend of mine who had bought it when it first came out. He had finished it it like three hours, whereas I had to sit for months, struggling just to get past Bloody Mary... :)

Ah, me too!! I never had so much trouble with anything in that game as I did with bloody Bloody Mary. It took me AGES to finally be able to beat her, and I had to level up heaps and basically only did it by using one spell (lightening or something like that) over and over until she was dead. I can do it pretty well now but the first time I played that game... she was so god damn difficult. I'm so happy to hear I wasn't the only one.

That game... just blew my mind. Have you played Illusion of Gaia too? I assume you know that's the game that comes before it in the storyline. It's not as good but still great and the tie-ins between the two games are nice.

*ahem* Anyway, I could talk about how much I love that game for hours. I'm trying to put a lot of what I love about Terranigma into Gift of Aldora (without just ripping things... I mean more in terms of the "feel" of the game).

Totoro: Well, games like Terranigma most definitely were very story heavy, and had very big themes that made you think about them well after you'd finished the game. Mine will be similar in that respect - I HOPE the story will be at least slightly involving and will be tied heavily to the game... I can't promise anything, but that's what I shall endeavor to achieve. It depends on what you guys all think after you've played it, really :)

My girlfriend loves fountain pens... (I can't use them easily because I'm left handed.)
Thanks! I'll point her at that site.
I too am left handed ...

Me too! Yay!

QuoteI remember when I was in 6th grade and we were finally allowed to use pens

Yep, I was in grade 4 when we were allowed to go for our "pen licences". I was the first one in my grade to get one ^_^ Smearing bothers me too but not so much as others because I've got a weird writing style. -I- don't think it's weird, and I don't do it on purpose, but everyone gawks at me when I write...
