Messages - Kinoko

I couldn't agree more with all of this. I've had the same feeling lately of this forum getting filled up with a lot of "ideas". It makes it annoying to sift through when I come here really just wanting to know what the upcoming games are, not the planned ones. It seems like there are 10 new games posted here every day and then you read them all and think, "Well, most of those were just ideas/had no screenshots or significant progress/etc".

Darth: Well, when the game's in RPG mode (ie, not a dungeon) it'll pretty much look like it does there. At least for now, I'm still not sure if I'll put a small GUI on screen to show current HP etc. During the dungeon scenes, there will be a GUI like that. You'll also be able to bring up a kind of control GUI to let you see stats, use items, magic, etc. I'll change or add a screenshot showing this and maybe the text windows.

Like I said, it'll be similar to the SNES style RPGs so arrow keys will walk you and certain other keys will be used to interact, run, fight, etc.

Rincewind: Terranigma is one of my two favourite games of all time ^_^ Equal with Breath of Fire II.

My god, this has been happening to me ever since I got AGS for the first time. I used the same work around, I just save quickly and constantly to get the message box to flash up and I try to read the message that way. You'll get used to it :P

It doesn't happen for me all the time, just occasionally, but it has always been happening and hasn't stopped between different versions of AGS. It never occured to me to ask about it since I assumed other people had this problem and it must have been discussed before, plus I'd just learned to deal with it.

I figured I might as well chime up now to add to the number of people this happens to.  I've never come across a pattern or any clue that would explain why this happens sometimes and not other times.

Okay, so we know WHEN the game was called, but WHAT was it called?

(Sorry, hard to resist).

Hehehe, I just think it's really funny that your main consideration is trying to win an award ^_^ "Now, what are the exact things I can put into my game that will win me an award at the end of the year...?"

As for the answer, I agree with Meph, it's a lot to do with atmosphere, and lack of bugs and SPELLING MISTAKES. Please, please, please look after your spelling and grammar. Get a friend to check over your script when it's done. Give it a once over with the spell check - anything. I can't say a particular style because I like all styles of games. Originality counts too, and a certain 'neatness' to the graphics.

Dark Water... was that the film about the drop of water that went from person to person making them do evil things? If so, LOVED that film (though I wouldn't call it horror, it was never scary).

Er... I'm not bumping, really! I added a new screenshot of a room so it didn't look so ... samey. I'm going to be adding another one that shows a typical dungeon scene (once it's completed).

Note of interest: Right now, I'm watching a tv program showing an emu wandering around in thick snow. Seems so... odd.

Just ignore me and my hippy prejudice, Byron Bay's fine if that's suitable to everyone. I don't know much about the Eastern states still, even after living here for 4 years, so I can't really offer any alternatives.

Rodekill: You should definitely come ^_^ Aussie girls are BABES, man.

I could not have said it better, Paul. I agree completely.

NINJAAAAAAAAAAS!

Sorry... Ninjas just do it for me. *ahem* Good luck with this. Put lots of gore in!

Well, near Brisbane is great for me, and if I'm still in Australia at that point, I'll definitely be there. I may be going to Japan around April but more likely, September so if it's before then, I'll most likely be able to attend.

I have to agree that Byron Bay is sorta... hmm. I've never been there, but I have no desire to, quite frankly. Hippies piss me off ^_^ I'm no expert on camping though, so if that's what everyone wants to do I can't offer any alternatives. How about we all get some nice hotel rooms on the Gold Coast, get drunk every night and act like 17 year olds? :P (Any Aussies will understand).

I just think the human element in this is going to be too ... THERE. I think what people are afraid of in this movie IS INDEED too much plot development, etc... we just want lots of gore and killing going on between aliens and those other aliens. I don't want a movie called "Alien vs Predator" to be more like "Alien vs Predator with a Bunch of Humans involved". I'm sure I'll see the movie at some point, but I think when people say they suspect it'll be a bad movie, they mean, "It won't be bad enough". It'll have human emotions and feelings and strategy and one-liners and -endless- dialogue. I think the reason they'll never make a great AVP movie is that we all know the general western movie going audience can't handle any serious amount of time without dialogue and if it were a true AVP movie, it's likely to have little speaking in it at all. Just violent sound effects and lots of silent bits.

Yeah, you did a great job Andail ^_^ and thanks for making Cirque your last pick! I for one wasn't too upset the pick of the month was stable for so long :P

If this year is anything to go by, Winter over here CAN be really cold. Of course it's not as bad as what you guys'd probably get with snow and whatnot, but this year drove me mad... Still, I'm a wimp for cold :)

I went through a few emotions when I saw this preview at the cinema a week ago. I ended up at 'uncertainty'. I mean, I -love- Aliens, and I truly would love to see them being scary little bastards of monsters once more, kicking the predators asses I might add ^_-

... but like a few people have said, this is very likely to suck. If you've seen the preview, it seems to be heavily based on the humans, who don't seem to die automatically upon entering the pyramid - which is just wrong. If they die quickly in a lot of blood this could be remedied, but knowing movies these days, this probably won't happen. I bet you anything at least one of them survives and finds SOME way to save the world from them - URGGGGGGG! The reason it worked with the original Alien movies (meaning 1 & 2 mainly) was that they created the perfect human character to work with them, and she met with tragedy OFTEN. This time, it just looks like a team of 'spunky' guys and gals who'll be totally freaked out by their situation, the unpopular ones will die quickly and the left overs will somehow manage to find various safe spots and probably a big ancient button that blows the whole place up or something.

If all this DOESN'T happen, and it really is a movie all about aliens being scary and predators being... reggae, it could be good.

Dargh, now why didn't I think of that... thanks!

I think Proskrito is right. You should get ahold of an Arabic TTF font and try using that.

I tried getting an arabic TTF font, but since my computer is not configured for arabic, it showed up as English.
Code: ags

In AGS? Or in some other program? Try putting the font into AGS and using it is arabic in your game... it should work and if not, then... sorry, I was wrong.[/quote]

Is there a way to animate something without specifying a specific loop? For example, I want to have my character animate on button press with whichever loop corresponds to which way he's facing. I'm aware I could script in four 'if' statements relying on which view/sprite he's currently using, but I can't be sure exactly which view he'll be using at the time so this would be a royal pain in the ass.

Is there a better way? -_-

Hooray, you're all back! Looked like such fun, if only I had thousands of dollars to spare to fly to the US... Ah well.

So next year's Australia, eh? Make it Brisbane!
