I think that was going a little far. There was never any debate needed in this thread, it's just wishing someone good luck when they leave. I'm not religous, and believe me, I'd be the first to do a dance if it went out of fashion, but there's no need to go attacking people with these beliefs any chance you get. You didn't have to throw in your two cents on the evils of christianity (and look, I agree at the base of it!) in a thread like this. If you were sure 'one wasn't going to make a difference', there was no need. It was only ever going to spark a fight, and we've had a few too many of them lately, I think.

Again, I agree with you essentially, but let's just wish Minimi the best and hope he stays well and safe ^_^

Ooooh, congrats! ^_^ I just wish I knew the true significance of those measurements. I'm guessing that're both good...?

I'm still waiting on that picture of a zebra... :\

Incidentally, outside my window is... the ugly brown courtyard of my particular block of units. Outside the next room's window is MUCH nicer, I have a view of rolling suburbian hills, a nice green park and the half that's left (after several vicious storms at the beginning of this year) of a big, pretty, light green tree that has lots of colourful blossoms in Spring.

Advanced Technical Forum / Re: not testable

Yep, I think for the people like me who have this problem, (by the way, do you have a GeForce video card by any chance?), you can just test it twice. Whatever suits you.

Why is it important to know which games have following characters in them? If you wanna make a game with 3 characters, Tanker, just go for it :)

General Discussion / Re: new competition
Mon 05/07/2004 02:17:52
Well, I DO draw in 'manga' style (now I feel like dork though) and I completely agree that it's just a really bad idea to limit style. I too would just detest to see every comic submitted drawn in the same old way. The whole fun of this kind of competition would be to let people fly with creativity, and that's the only way it would be interesting for people to look at, too.

You can't honestly put a number on the number of styles. EVERYONE has their own style (unless they're completely ripping something off), even if it's similar to something else. I say give people a topic, maybe a page limit, and tell them to go wild with it.

Sorry if I sound hardline, but I think it's the only way this could work. I personally don't think I'd have time to enter the comps myself because my style is also that of taking freaking ages to do anything ^_^ and I have a game to work on!

Interesting. I don't really see how it could add to the game unless you were -really -creative. It'd have to have a really good plot to go with it, to make it really work, I think.

Thanks ^_^ I'm rather glad to hear people are still coming along and playing it (as opposed to it completely dying out after a couple of months).

In regards to the first question...

You can put SetGlobalInt -anywhere- as long as it's going where you want it. To clarify... you put it where the event that changes the orignal action should be. In the case of the broken window, you put it -whereever- the script that dictates where the window gets broken is.]

For example, if the window gets broken by the player USING a rock on the window, you'd be putting the SetglobalInt line somewhere in the WINDOW's interaction editor, under "Use inventory item on". In that script would be where you place the code for the player using the rock on the window, and so in THAT script would be where the SetGlobalInt line would go.

That's just an example. You put it wherever the -change- is. The catylist. I don't know how I can explain it any better ^_^;;; Anyone else... ?

As for Question #2, it's good for anything. Anything you want to change depending on something else, or anything you want to restrict happening until something else has happened.

Yup, I'm with you. Voice acting in more cases than not annoys the crap out of me. In things like Grim Fandango, it was fine, it was fantastic, it completely helped to make the game great and I (rarely) got annoyed with it.

In games that didn't originally have voice acting, it hardly ever works to remake it with. Monkey Island? Noooooooo. The experience is completely ruined with voices (and cartoony characters, as far as I'm concerned). I like games that leave details up to the imagination. If a game is dialogue heavy, I treat it more like an interactive book than a ... film. I have an imagination, I can use it if I like. I love games with just written text.

Mario games shouldn't have voices either. My god, that gets annoying. Mario was NEVER than annoying when I was growing up. Now, all the magic has been taken from him and he's just a little bitch.

So here's another question, I played a bit of QF1 a while ago, and it seemed kinda slow. Does the pacing of the game get better as you progress?

Hard to answer because I didn't think it was slow. There's not really any "timing" in the game. Once you know what to do, you can get through the game incredibly quickly. I love it, personally. It's definitely one of the best of the classics. QFGII is the most fun though... I love flirting with the money changer ^_^

Cool, it's always good to see stuff from "Hours" getting appreciation for once â€" I think it's one of the best Bowie albums, but most people seem to think it's one of the worst. New Angels Of Promise is my fave off that one, though.

Tell me about it. I'm constantly amazed by how overlooked it is. It's easily my favourite all-around Bowie album because I love every song on it without exception. It's just got such a nice mood to it and if you're a fan of David Bowie's voice rather than his look or eccentricity (though I love those too! ^_-) this is the album to get. It's cooooooool, man. B)

General Discussion / Re: Amiga
Fri 02/07/2004 02:45:47
Ahhh, I'm a big sexual lover of the Amiga. It was my first real computer and I played the majority of my all time favourite games on it. "Say" was great ^_^ I had a cousin who used to type "fuck off" on it and wait until his mother came in the room to press 'return'.  Ahh, workbench. D Paint... using 15 disks to play Monkey Island. Having a supply of about 5 thousand games all traded between friends. Me and my dad even belonged to an Amiga users club back in my hometown.

Those were the freaking days, my friend. I have an Amiga emulator and some games now, but it's just not the same. I plan on buying another Amiga one day when I find one in decent condition (there are people out there looking after theirs).

Er, not quite what I meant but thanks. Sorry, there was a little communication error on my part.

If I put that code into the global script under "on_key_press", I get an error when trying to save the game because this code comes before the place in the global script where these functions are actually created. I've moved the whole on_key_press section to the bottom of the script, and it works fine, but will this cause problems later?

Andail - EXACTLY my point. I wasn't trying to say that other forums shouldn't be advertised, or that we shouldn't go to other forums, just that there was very little (if any) motivation to go to his when the only 'theme' seemed to be AGS - and we have this forum for that.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me before...

My plan now, seeing as I can't change the foreground colour of the GUI from the script, is to create a couple of different TypeLine functions with each one using a different GUI (so I can have a set foreground colour for each one). It just occured to me though, how can I change which GUI is used as the text window with the different functions? Is this possible at all? If not, I can't see any way to do this.

EDIT: Got it. Should've checked the help files again...

You cannot have a forum unless you make a forum.

...What?

Anyway, I was just implying that you can talk about anything here, think about the very forum you're posting this in - General Discussion.
