Hurrah for imagination!

Oh whoops, sorry. I skimmed... my bad. But I really do like all of them! The DoTT ones, the Garfield ones, all awesomeness.
#243
Shit, I have to get myself some people.

Right now, me returning is an 'if' rather than a 'when', but sure, will do.
#244
DG, please let me take you out for a coffee or a piece or cake when I get back to Australia to repay you for the laughter you've given me.

EDIT: Hang on, coffee or cake? Jesus christ, I meant a beer.

Holy shit, I am blown away by all of the figurines on this thread. They look great! I ADORE the Bender figurine.

General Discussion / Re: About Sprite Jam...
Tue 18/04/2006 02:22:07
I quite like Darth's idea too, but I really was fond of the trophy thing. I've only participated in 2 SJs recently but that's 2 more than ever before :)

It was certainly motivating me! It wasn't a mad rush to get a trophy though, just that little extra incentive. Even if we get rid of the trophies, I'll still try to participate in any Sprite Jam I get an idea for. I really don't mind if there's no reward or hall of fame or anything. To be honest, I think the main reason I participate is for the fun of participating and the motivation to create a sprite, but the main reason I want to win is so I can pick the next Sprite Jam! ^_^ That's the best reward as far as I'm concerned.

(Though, god knows, if I do win, I probably won't be able to think of a good idea at all)

I wasn't being serious about the adventure game thing as such, I just wanted to make you all play it ^_^ HOORAY! Fun though, right?

It looks interesting. I agree with Chicky for the most part, I prefer the style in the latter screenshots. Also, (I know, I shouldn't C&C) wouldn't it be better to say something like:

HUNGER
EXHAUSTION
FEAR

Then we have 3 nouns, not 2 adjectives and a noun ^_^ Sorry, I'm an English teacher.

Ahhhhhhh, I remember this! That excellent GUI! I was waiting to hear about this game. Looks fantastic!

I have one little question which may be the result of my own stupidity but... you said he got his name from his mother and his father was American. His last name seems Russian to me, shouldn't his last name be American? Sorry, I bet it -is- an American name... if so, please disregard my comment.

I just want to be the voice of anality and say please try not to double and triple post ^_- *ahem* Aside from that, game looks great!

Radient: The VERY first thing that popped into my head, before I even read the second line of the lyrics, was "Seven Seas of Rhye" by Queen. I went and re-read the lyrics to that song and I feel like I'm right, but... obviously, it's hard to tell :P

Okay Rolf, I find your posts the most entertaining thing on AGS right now, but...

Please, stop using Babelfish to translate them into to English! We can't understand you. Your posts don't make sense.

God, I hope that English was simple enough to get through. What language does he speak? Does anyone else speak it? I think someone needs to tell him.

I did a bit of a rework for you.

Much scarier!

I'm not talking about the game I'm currently making, and this will be quite different in terms of gameplay. Not like a SNES RPG at all.

But thanks for the info. I was half expecting there weren't any decent engines for this sort of thing :/

I'm thinking of a game I'd like to make (eventually), and I'm at the point where I'm starting to consider whether or not 2D would be the best platform for this game. I've never considered a 3D game before in my life, so I have no idea where to start really.

I'm not at the point where I want to actually find programs and play around with them, I'm still very much only thinking conceptually. But, I was wondering if some of the people here who DO have experience with both 2D and 3D game making could help me out with some rough questions I have.

Firstly, are there decent 3D game making engines out there? I'm looking to make something akin to an RPG.

Secondly, would cel shading be much more difficult to pull of than your standard 3D shading?

Thanks!

2. Can you speak Japanese?

I go on about this game sometimes. It really is about my favourite game in the world. I thought, for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about and would like to see a little bit about the game, I'd let you know about the webpage.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/ggfj/

It's in Japanese, but very visual!

If you click "ON" on the front page, you can hear the theme song (the screen that pops up will ask you if you want the "short" or "long" version, in that order - get the long version).

If you'd like to see a bit of the game in action, click on the red movie reel-looking thing that says, "click!". Or just go to this link here:

For those of you who have never heard of it, Giftpia is a game released on Gamecube some years back. It's what you'd call an RPG, but I think it's closer to an adventure game. It's both and neither really. It was never released outside of Japan, unfortunately, and never translated. If there was a way for me to do it though, I'd translate it myself.

One of the greatest things about Giftpia is the music! It's -stunning- and never, ever leaves my everyday music rotation. An official soundtrack was never released because all the music is created by various amateur Japanese street bands. It's a real shame, but you can get most of the tracks here anyway:

http://www.revo-europe.com/news.php?nid=4185

I suggest you -do-. they're all wildy different styles of music, and all fabulous. They aren't all full tracks, unfortunately, but this is better than nothing.

Thankyou for your time ^_^

I think a zoom function would be easier on the whole (but heck, I don't -know-... CJ?)  mostly in the sense that I think most people just need to see what a sprite looks like rather than the filename.

However, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of being able to attach a name to a sprite. Whether it be the original file name or not, having the ability to give some kind of textual identification to a sprite would be very useful for me. Even if it's only a few characters long, I could put a few characters as code to tell me something about the sprite, or the order to use it in... something. Right now, I try to be very careful about the order in which I import sprites but that can be a hassle sometimes.
