Oh, and er, I guess I meant roughly in Aussie dollars. US dollars would be a little less, but still, not much.

But most Japanese don't ^_^ Whereas something the same in western comics would get a bit more attention.

It is my humble opinion that the theory of self loathing or anything like it are ridiculous. It happened over time, with many different artists. MANY different artists. They all had their original reasons for doing it, or they thought others were doing it for different reasons. I can tell you my own personal reason for doing it is because it looks good, and I believe that's why most people today do it. A silver haired chick with red eyes may be in fashion one day, tomorrow a red head with blue eyes. It's cool to play with colour, and lots of people like it. Manga/anime has freed itself from that being a strange thing, so of course they use it. From an inking standpoint, of course there's SHITLOADS of manga out there where all the characters have realistic, Asian hair. A lot of the most popular stuff over the years in Japan is like that but a lot of it doesn't make it into the West because obviously the West tends to like the quirky colourful stuff. However, it's true that it -is- often easier to give your characters different coloured hair to make it easier to draw or distinguish between them.

Sometimes I do it cause it's easier, sometimes I do it cause I want characters with cool hair colour.

EDIT: And sometimes I'll do it specifically so that I can have fun with styling lines instead of colourish black. It just gives you more choice.

I'm trying to see if Yufster is hot or not but I can only see the back of her head... :\ Is there a decent pic of her that I missed?

Looks like fun anyway, I hope I can go to one of these things someday :(

I just want to say that CDs in Japan cost about $40, and I'm not talking about imports. They're fucking insanely overpriced. Still, I bought 3 on the weekend, which are going to cost me money AGAIN when I have to ship them all back home. I feel I've karmically earned my right to download/rip whatever I want over here. As Darth said, when they start charging realistic prices for CDs, I'll start "supporting" bands properly.

I think the industry ought to just take a good look at itself. Maybe musicians don't NEED millions of dollars. Maybe being a famous singer ought to bring you home a more average wage. I certainly don't give rats if a band I like are driving around in golden cars or commodores.

I too prefer to -own- a physical product, and particularly a well-made one with lots of thought put in. I will always buy a really, really awesome CD that I feel goes above and beyond and is truly a piece of art, but I'm more and more warming up to the idea of just buying music as plain old media, as long as I can pay a small price for it.

EDIT: PARTICULARLY when so many bands these days are putting so little thought into albums. They have one decent single and then the rest might as well be filler. I'll pay for an album that's really worth it, but not for one with one song I like and a bunch of others just made to fill the extra spots. I could buy singles but THOSE are getting more and more ridiculous in price too, and seems like a physical waste of space when I could have the same size CD with lots of music on it, not one with the same song in several different edits and instrumental versions. I personally only listen to music on my laptop anyway (and later, iPod) so CDs are just becoming less and less of a thing I want when I could have the individual tracks I want.

To be honest, what I'm doing lately is checking bands out on youtube.com, watching the filmclips and when I love a song so much I can't stop listening to it, I feel the need to go out and buy the CD (as was the case with the 3 CDs I got this weekend - Monkey Majik and 2 x Southern All Stars CDs - awesomeness).

In fact, I don't know if these guys have broken out of Japan yet, but let me introduce you all to Monkey Majik ^_~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsVWLoE3sd0&search=monkey%20majik

They're a Japanese based band but some of the guys are foreigners and they sing in a mix of English and Japanese. This song is the theme song to the new Monkey series (Saiyuuki) showing in Japan at the moment and as far as I know, will be in other countries soon. I heard it was going to be shown in Australia anyway. It's really cheesy and crappy, but I adore it and lots of that adoration comes specifically from this song. I played it non-stop for hours last night @_@

The filmclip alone is really awesome.

So mysterious o_o

If you -really- need it, I have a friend who's well-versed in ways of the laws so I could always ask him about something, but I don't wanna bug him about it if it's something like, "I found $5 on the street and kept it, how long could they put me away for that if I get caught?"

But I used my -whole- ass.

So from what I gather, you like to be constantly challenged by games. That's fine if so, but I don't. Sometimes I like a story sweet and simple. Sometimes it's nice to see characters set in a much simpler world without a lot of our problems and complications. Sometimes it's nice to have a story that makes you think of childhood again.

EDIT: I just want to make clear that the problem I have with you right now is your hardline stance, believing that what -you- like is what is right. "This kind of game design is crap." Not "I don't like that kind of game".

Plus, my story about the woman on the ship was different... my point about the fight with Tiger was the one I find to be good game design. It didn't feel like they had cut something out of the game, it felt like they had given me something extra.

Richard Longhurst and the box that ate time. Beard option. This isn't a fake choice. When you adjust it, more or less beard appears on the character. That's all this choice dones. But I laughed, it added to the game, it COULD have added more but that's a different discussion. I didn't click on +beard and have the game tell me "oh come on, you don't need more beard".

I would have laughed at that. Enjoyment = mission accomplished.

I'd like some of that ad space myself ^_^

I haven't played it, I was just throwing the possibility out there for argument's sake.

That's why it's only fair if just one person has the power.

General Discussion / Re: Time Travel?
Tue 14/03/2006 01:42:42
Spell check, dude.

But why could you only go back as far as the time machine's creation? That would depends totally upon the way the time machine worked. If it's a car, like in BttF, that comes with you in the time travelling process. If it's something that only sends you back, then problem solved again because it stays in it's own time.

I'm curious as to what you meant by "from what I hear" too ^_^ You know someone who's an authority on time travel??
#375
I must admit, I'm a little unclear on the topic...

Do you mean something that kind of seems organic and plant-like? Or just anything that has evolved but is doomed to a short life due to bad "planning" (rather like Zooty's target guy).
#376
Perhaps he means that if you play it a little, it's terrible and goes downhill, but eventually you get over that 'hump' and the meter starts going up again.

The Rumpus Room / Post an awesome video clip

The "rules" are simple. Post a video from a site like video.google.com or youtube.com that you think other people should see! (Probably try to avoid things that are well-known or from those "Most Watched Clip" lists).

I'm always finding great stuff in these places but I wanna see what the rest of you have to offer ^_^

This is my contribution. I think I've posted it on these forums before but if it passed you over, you should check this out:

The song is "Bohbo No. 5" by a long time, popular Japanese band called Southern All-Stars. I adore this song, and the filmclip rocks.

It's not like I'm the boss of the internet, but lets make this thread about links to places like the previously mentioned sites with instantly playing clips, not things you have to download or things that require bizarre plugins ^_^
#378
Oh, how silly of me. I went backwards in the thread to find his post and didn't end up seeing his previous one.

If he says they're the best stories -ever-, I agree. But he's allowed to think they're awesome.

I agree also, this is what keeps the quality of games low. It infuriates me a lot actually, when I see someone who I know has very limited experience with games talk about how something is really great, when I know it isn't. Movies, books, anything. We're all like that, really. But sometimes I have to knock myself down off my high horse too... sometimes appreciating things regardless of an unexperienced mind can be just as good a thing as knowing a lot about a genre and having an informed opinion.
#380
In theory, I agree.

I think practically we can all agree there are certain rules that should be generally followed. I just don't believe breaking those rules is necessaily a bad thing. It can sometimes be a very good thing.
