General Discussion / Re: MrColossal's Avatar

Aww, I thought this thread was going to be about calling Eric out and forcing him to change his avatar because despite knowing VERY well that he's a male, I'm constantly stuck with the image that THAT blonde woman is the voice behind all his posts. What, with all his feminist mumbo jumbo too ^_^

(Sorry, this'll be a long post, but I'm just gonna copy this all from my LJ entry - my "for-my-parents-so-it's-all-PC-and-happy-rainbows"LJ)

Today was my school's graduation ceremony for the 3rd year students. It really was an excellent and sad day. Everyone was dressed up, and feeling both sad and happy about the ceremony. One of the English teachers, Ishizuka-sensei, dressed in traditional clothes and looked really amazing. She told me she had to have the home ec. teacher dress her for half an hour, but the results were great!

The ceremony was held in the gym in the morning, and was very formal. It basically comprised of various combinations of 'sit down' and 'stand up' and 'bow' commands thrown at various combinations of all the groups of people involved (the teachers, the parents, the 2nd and 1st year students and the 3rd year graduating students). I got up and sat down so many times I lost count. Sometimes only sitting for 30 seconds before having to get up again. Speeches weren't too long, and students weren't given a certificate one by one like in Australia. They had one representative per homeroom receive a certificate, though everyone's names were called out.

These are a photos of after the ceremony:

At the back of the gym was the school band, conducted by the music teacher who is about the coolest thing in the world. I know he's gay. I -know- it. He's way too good looking to be straight. Anyway, he looked so cool conducting the crappy band, I tried to get a decent photo of him but it didn't work. Ah well.

Eventually it was over and the kids filed out one by one, looking so mature and happy to be done. I felt quite proud of them, and I'm really going to miss them. They were a good lot.

After the ceremony, I made my way back to the English teachers' room and tried to kill some time, waiting for the group of students that Chizuko and I teach after school. I had made crappy little cards for them all with my email address and a little Australian animal badge on them. Not much but it was something, and I'd like to at least give them the chance to keep in contact. My best student without a doubt is Ayano, and I'm confident she'll write to me.

This is such a good photo of them! I really can't believe how well it portrays everyone in it. On the left are Iwahori-sensei and Chizuko-sensei - definitely the two teachers I'm closest to. Sagara-kun is the first student on the left and was definitely my best boy. The other boys, as shameful as it is, I can't remember their names. 2 of the 3 didn't come to the after-school class all that often. The girl is Ayano-san and she was both my best student and the student I'm the closest with. She actually gave me a cake she'd baked for me today (well, she called it 'cake' but it was like a slice of a brownie).

It was insanely delicious, despite it's sneakily plain appearance.

There was much hugging, and thanking, and everyone was happy and excited. Ayano cried and we all signed her year book (which was REALLY good, a zillion times better than anything any of my schools ever produced. I'm gonna try and get a copy, no matter how much I have to pay).

So, that's that then. I now have an easy month of preparing for my final semester at Yokosuka Koko.

I don't know crap about golf either so it sounds fine to me. I thought it was a great line though, really made me laugh ^_^ Actually, I'm not sure if my rewrite does sound better anymore. I'm an English teacher in a foreign country, I'm losing touch with the English through analysing it too much.

SPC: Awesome comic! One thing bugged me though... "You took way too fucking long to set up that shot" seems like it would sound better as "You took way too fucking long setting that shot up". Or something. But anyway, the art is -great-! Always love your drawings.

Neil: GREAT! I love it :D

Oh yeah.

Your bloody avatar gave me a huge fright when I saw it. It was like... IT!

I agree Farlander, and I'm sure buloght would too (and thankyou for mentioning me!! o_o)... but let's not make an issue out of that too. Best thing to do is just make a comment to LJUBI or whoever does it when they do it and leave it be.
#467
Aww buloght :( *big hugs!*

It's okay, noone cares! We all still love you. Heck, I agree with you too, you just got a bit wound up about it, which has NEVER happened to me on ANY subject EVER on these forums, let's all be sure of that fact right there.

*ahem*

Don't worry about it dude ^_^

Yay! :D What an awesome sprite jam this was. I didn't join but I am really getting into these things now so I'll start doing more sprites.

The Rumpus Room / Re: AGS Questionaire!

Name: Kinoko (Rebecca Clements)

Age: 23

Female/male: Female

1. How long have you been involved in the AGS community? Since about December 2003, I think.

2. Why did you get involved in AGS?
I had suddenly gotten the urge to try my hand at making an adventure game, and some friends pointed me in the direction of AGS.

3. How do you feel that the fact that AGS is a freeware programme affect the community that has built up around it?
Obviously, a huge amount. It creates a nice, friendly atmosphere where people don't feel pressured to produce to any particular level or to anyone's expectations but their own.

4. How big a part does the AGS community play in your life?
I check the site several times a day, so a huge amount. It's a part of my regular routine.

5. Have you been involved in making any games using AGS? You may list them if you want
Cirque de Zale was my first game. I'm now working on an RPG called Gift of Adora.

6. Answer these questions if you have been involved in making AGS games:

a. Were you interested in game design/programming before you started using AGS?

Not really.

b. If no, do you feel that you would have got into game design without AGS?
Yes, but probably not as much.

c. Do you make games using other programmes, either freeware or not? How does the experience differ?
Nope, I just use AGS for now.

d. Has AGS inspired you to try and take up game design professionally?
No. It would be nice though.

7. Do you feel that there is a gender divide in the AGS community?
Not at all. Most of the time, I forget what gender people are anyway.

8. Are you likely to feel differently about a game if you discover it's made by a female? In what way?
Not at all.

9. Do you feel that AGS makes it easier for females to get involved in computer game design? In what way?
I have no idea, I never thought about it. I don't know any other programs that might make it more difficult for women to get into game design so I don't know what to compare it to.

10. Do you feel that there is a difference between the types of games created by males and females?
Never noticed one.

11. Any other comments?
Can't think of any.

If I turn it off, my characters just fly around the screen like they're running the 100m in the Olympics.

This may seem like a stupid question to ask, but I have my reasons. Namely, I want to know.

Like many people, Kings Quest 1 was one of the first Sierra/adventure games I ever played and I loved it. I love the series, I've played them all many times.

However, I -really- got into Hero's Quest (Quest for Glory). I remember being completely thrilled when I went to my boyfriends place and he had, *shock horror* Quest for Glory 2! It was a mile-stone in my life, I think. I consider that series a true personal favourite.

Anyway, I'm not interested in talking about why one is better than the other, but what I have found curious these past couple of years on this forum, is that people don't seem to hold the two on equal ground as I do.

So, is the Quest for Glory series a level or two down from King's Quest for you? I tend to think of them both as two of the greats, but I get the feeling most people only see KQ that way. Same as Space Quest.

Admittedly, I don't think of Police Quest as the same because I never played those games (but I know that's just me).

If you do think of them differently, is it because you plyed Kings Quest first?

I just want to point out that I've never, ever heard of Dream Theatre.

As for my inspiration, I have plenty. Of course, my answer is that everything I see/hear inspires me in tiny ways, but I know what you mean... some things have really kicked me in the guts nad made me go, "Whoa, I need paper to write some ideas down".

I'll tell you my most recent one - Iron Feather. It's a DS game I bought awhile back and started playing recently. It gave me lots of ideas for tiny things to add to Gift of Aldora. Not copying, but inspiration to work harder on the guis and interfaces. Ideas of places I can place sounds or images I hadn't thought of previously.

I think they're fine, but I must admit, I don't understand the point of the Grim Fandango remake. Not that I think it's pointless... I mean it - I don't understand. I couldn't find anything in the thread that really said why they were doing it. It looks the same to me, what's being changed?

Other than that little bundle of thoughts, I don't care what people do. As long as, if they do make a fan game, they don't go around talking it up too much like it's something official. Don't try to make an internet blockbuster, because you'll nver, ever satisfy all the fans.

I'm sorry, I couldn't look at them all. I got to Mr Frisby's and I laughed myself stupid. I have tears in my eyes. It's AWESOME!!! I am in awe.

EDIT: No, I looked at the rest. Biothlebop, very awesome sprite and idea! That would make an awesome game. Even if everyone was dead. You could make a cool 'self discovery' type game.

Eric, as usual, fantastic sprite! I know it's the seam on his pants but it looks like he has a little... yeah.

I am a girl but I'm not married yet ^_-

I will say that the 45 degree angle face shot does wonders for anyone. It makes the cheeks look great.

Oh, I forgot to say - if that is an accurate representation of you in that first photo, then you're damn cute, and can I have your phone number?

Dude, your Honeybird is a fox :D Lucky man! That blonde in the pool photo ain't bad either.

Have fun!

Nah.

It's more important people get used to the humour immediately. If we walk around being nice to each other all the time, things will go horribly PC. Nobody here is outright cruel or anything, we just make some jokes when someone asks a silly question with bad grammar.
