Quick question, I'm having a bit of a play with my new microphone and I wanted to know if there was a way to have just ordinary text boxes have audio speech attached to them. I've figured out the whole character talking thing, but I want to do a voice for hte dialog aka: John Rhys-Davies in QFG4.

Download available now of the first issue of "Ego".

An adventure game magazine, the first issue is dedicated to the absolute awesome series Quest for Glory and includes interviews with Lori Cole, the first lady of Gloriania. Also, AGD2 talks to us about QFG2 VGA and some other stuff. Oh, there's some stuff in there about some other games too. Enjoy!

I tried just loading the executable file from the compiled directory but the same error came up. I've never had a problem with the test function before.

As for when the error appears, I can load and edit the game, and then save it. But it won't run the game, it just loads up the error message.

I have fixed the problem by copying all the files into another directory and compiling it from there, that seems to work properly. I am still curious why it won't run from my original directory.

CJ,

An exception, 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0xBFF8C15B (strcpy / strcat); program pointer is +0, ACI version 2.61.747, gtags (0,0). AGS cannot continue this exception was fatal.....yadda yadda yadda.

As for what I was doing : I had upgraded to the new version and loaded my project up in it, I drew a walkable area on a screen, reset the left yellow room edge to 5 points in. And in the properties for that room edge, I put in

MoveCharacterBlocking(EGO, -10, character[EGO].y, 1);
NewRoomEx(200, 330, character[EGO].y);

And that was it. I tried to test the game <CTRL> <T> and it saved it, then came up with that error. I loaded up a different project and tried it, (it's only a small one with 2 rooms) and it worked fine. I also tried getting rid of the code I wrote to see if it was that, but same error came up.

Please Help!

TheSaint, the host is basically buggered. We're changing hosts soon, but money and all that. And Broomie, our webmaster also mods the forums, so we keep him busy.

>>>same goes for Peter Cushing who was the Doctor in two "Dalek" >>>movies, during the time that Jon Pertwee was the doctor...

Ah, sorry but the Cushing movies were filmed in 1965 and 1966, putting them firmly into the William Hartnel 1st Doctor era. Jon Pertwee didn't start playing the Doctor till 1970.

As for the argument that the BBC wouldn't care if you used their characters, I can't say I'd agree with that. Firstly, there's a new series in production so I can't see how they'd not care about exploitation of their trademarks. Secondly, all non-BBC options of the movies and new tv series have expired so it's all firmly under the control of the Beeb again, not in various places like Amblin etc. Thirdly, the beeb DID hold competitions for fan-fic etc, but if you read the small print they retained copyright of anything which was sent to them.

Scorpiorus, I've also been playing around with your combat system, and reading through your suggestions above.

Firstly, let me say what a great job you've done with the system. Very realistic and I love the keyboard commands, as compared to QFG1VGA's mouse driven combat, which I didn't like so much.

My question is this, you have a line of code in the battle settings with sets the max values of the following four stats

FightersProps(Health_Max, Stamina_Max, Strength_Max, Weapon_Use_Max);

My game which I'm using your battle code in, uses GlobalInt's for the statistics and I obviously want to incorporate my stat system into the battle engine. If I change to above line to

FightersProps((GetGlobalInt(hlth_max)), etc

The game uses these stats for both players, I only want to use these max stats for the human player, and set a different set for the Goblin (or other evil nasty as I put them in.)

Is this possible? If so how would I do it?

>>>Anybody know why the Anonymous Game Designers are reluctant >>>to release their source code? It's worrisome that someone like the >>>AGDs will take our free work and try to sell it,...

Huh, who's trying to sell your work Jodo? You really have a screw loose.

Some people say that SCI Studio locks up on them...well, guess what...IT DOES NOT!
**********************************
It might not for you, but it certainly does for me. Not only does it lock up but it crashes repeatedly when I'm browsing through the animations in a game.

Otherwise I agree that SCI Studio is a great program, in fact one of the best out there. I just prefer AGS cause it's simpler to use for inept programmers like myself.

Hey all, I'm the other guy doing the ground-breaking  ;D work on QFI with Blackthorne.

Dude Man and BerserkerTails, I like both your sprites.

Dude Man, what you've designed is exactlly what I had imagined the character to look like, almost Vampire-Like in appearance. Any chance you could redo the sprite with added detail. Blackthorne may have some other comments, I just loved the look of it.
