Ah ok, thats what I thought. True, once you have a lot of items it will be pretty long to add them that way in the script.
#622
For learning purposes, I was wondering what the main difference is between adding an inventory item in game_start within the global script vs. setting the option "player starts with item" to "true" in the item's property box.

Code: ags
function game_start()
{
  //Add Default Inventory items
  player.AddInventory(iWatch);
}

Is one way "better" or "faster"  than the other or are  they equally the same in terms of memory/computation (which I doubt would be very much anyways since its pretty simple).

Im guessing its the same thing?

It seems for me I only get those mouse problems when playing in fullscreen...windowed its fine so far.
#624
Ive got the same problem...I really hope there is some kind of way of having mouse settings in AGS that people can fiddle with.

My mouse is also a gaming mouse and it "jams" sometimes, and the speed/acc is kinda of whacky sometimes.

Wow, this is super!

Ok thanks for this link, this will be very good information.

Hi,

Im working on a 1024x768 game, and I believe I will need more frames for various character animations than if I were working on a smaller game (640x480, for example).

Is this assumption right? I would think so...

For a walk cycle, in your opinion, what is the "ideal" frame count? I have a K9 dog and Im currently using 30 frames for his walk loop...is this overkill?

Im thinking of keeping this 30 frames per second for most of my character animations, its just since I dont have much experience perhaps more knowledgeable people here could offer some good advice.

If not, I guess I always have the good old "trial and error" and see what the best results I can get with the less frames possible...:P

Well obviously an IP goes farther than that, duh...I dont mean "just switching the names"...its not *that* hard to get around an IP, its actually not as hard as one might think.
#628
Ive never seen David Hasselhoff as an inventory item yet (but correct me if Im wrong).

What people need to do is create a game that is similar to a certain IP (like Kings Quest) but change the names of all the characters, locations, title, etc...so the owner of the IP doesnt shut you down...then once you finally release your game, get a "patch" to circulate anonymously that automatically switches all the names of the characters and locations back to the IP names...that would work, no?

I thought about doing that myself actually:P

Ok I sent the video files to CJ, I'll keep you posted of what he finds.

Mst people might think it has to do with the actual "general Henry Knox" from boston...but thats just a really weird ko-inke-dink.

It all started a long time ago when I used to play Swat 3 online with the L*A*P*D team...so much fun! I had to find a name quickly...I liked the character "Knox Overstreet" from Dead Poet's Society...and just stuck a "general" infront of it so it seemed more military-ish...hehe :P

I use knox for many things now.

QuoteI'm really looking forward to the Space Quest 2 remake most of all

Same here...SQ2 was the first adventure game I ever played...It tok me forever to get past the labion terror beast...!

Ok Ill send him a pm.

**In the meantime:

I resized the videos to match the game's dimensions (1024x768) and now when I place the flag to "0" it plays at its original size, BUT, when I put the flag to "1" it doesnt stretch the video to fullscreen at all, judt plays at its original size...!

Very weird...

#637
Well I hope I dont disappoint anyone here but I can asure you there will be NO serial killer mastermind in this game!! :P
Sooooooo many games have that already...

Perhaps you might need to track down a serial chicken-rapist...hmmMmmmm.....hmm?

ps: Oh, good idea on PQ and Blue Force easter eggs...Ill add that to my to-do list :P
Mental illnesses...for sure (remember the half-naked crazy guy from PQ3...ah, memories of shooting him in the water, hehe)

Exactly...Im dumbfounded!

Ok, the program Im using to convert my vids (usually .mov) to ogg is:

"G-Frontend (ffmpeg2theora) 2007.2"

However I dont see why the program is important since AGS is supposed to be able to play the .ogv on any system, no?

What ill try to do though is install the ogg codecs onto those systems and see if the ogv's will play...perhaps something is wrong with the implementation of theora in AGS?...or maybe something to do with larger video files.

The video files are 1024x576 (widescreen-ish) in a 1024x768 game...could that be cause of the problem?

Works on my cpu though, :P

PS: Oh, another "weird" thing...Since Ive been using wmv's, when I run PlayVideo with the 0 or 1 flag, it plays it "stretch to fullscreen" when I run the game fullscreen...so no matter what, it wont play the video at its original size (even if I put the flag to "0", still stretches it fullscreen). I also tried unchecking "side borders on widescreen", but all this does is stretch the video all the way to the side edges of the screen...still does not play in its 1024x576 dimensions. I hope I dont have to do it this way: make the videos 1024x768 but put black bands on the tops and bottoms to "fake" 1024x576". :P

Hey Xenogia,

Well for now the vids dont have audio, Im testing more than anything (place-holder intro/logo animation).

Im going  to go with windows media video for now and let the .ogv aside...seems I cant figure why some computers can play the video from the game while others cant...at least the wmv can be played by almost all computers Ive tested them on.

Hi!

Ive got a program that enables me to create an installer, but do you guys know of a software that will perform tests on the system to see if the minimum requirements are met? If they arent met, it will display a "failed" test...and wont let you install the game.

I was looking around for something like this without luck :P
