In Sci-Fi, the motif is the opposite: flying off in a spaceship into deep space ala The Starship Enterprise.

At the end of Star Trek VI, the Enterprise sails off toward a reddish sun. I loved that.
(I think it was VI. One of them thar films anyway.)

who is buying these things?

A. People who can justify spending money on a game.

Really, what kind of a troll question is that? What has 1992 technology got to do with whether you enjoy a game? Meh.

Cheers Darth!
That is definitely easier to read.

I can't resist saying the No-Action Jackson review score is absurd. 74%? Cuckoo!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Living Room
Tue 13/07/2004 00:47:44
The armchair is out of proportion to the sofa. It's too small.
I don't know that I'd lay my living room out like that.
Seems there should be a coffee table where the tv is.
How does the tv get its power?

Unless the drawers and shelves are irrelevant, maybe they should be closer to the centre of the image, so that the player doesn't accidentally walk off screen when interacting.

Looks nice though!

Nice sky - but the horizon should always be horizontal (hence the name!), unless this is supposed to be a rotated (rolled) camera. The mountains should then be along the horizon.
[I see you say you'll draw a horizon later, but the mountains look very close because they're not horizontal.]
After that, I'd move the clouds up a bit.

Oh, and are the graves all open for a reason?
The gravestones look like lids flipped open (possibly because the graves themselves are too short).

I'm not too sure what's going on with that path on the left (why is it two-tone?).
I think the path should extend downward to the bottom of the screen.

Hi,
I want to put together a date string for save games etc.
But I don't see any way (other than writing a plugin for one function) of getting the current year.
GetTime only gives seconds, minutes, hours, days, and months.

Cheers,
Steve

Good game, good game!

Spoiler

I wanted to gloat to the knife thrower having taken his knife, but he still responded as if he had the knife. Also, I thought it would be cool if Ben walked faster when on the Jitter Juice.

George had some navigation problems on the ship - it looked like he'd been drinking Jitter Juice.

I was a bit disappointed that a paranormal investigator would take a "special" dowsing rod and just use it as firewood. Particularly without comment.

Can you really crush a pearl in a pestle and mortar? Seems pretty unlikely.

Nice portraits (Medicine Man looked a lot like Sean Connery... hmm...) and ghost into bottle animation!

I'm da man, dawg!

Cheers!

Meh. Not bad.  ;D

I tried to add my plugins to the plugins page.
But it just says "you must be logged into the forums" and gives me a link to the forums.
No combination I've tried of logging in, visiting pages, has "worked".
Does anyone have advice?

[EDIT] I got in. No idea what was different, but they're all up now!

I'd go without the nail polish.
Also, the slippers sort of work when you know what you're supposed to be seeing, but not quite. There's a thread around here with a sheep before and after "wooling". You might want to check that out.

I think it's a great character! Very innocent and frail looking - I'm guessing she's not really though, huh?

Hmm, there's a pretty clear distinction between the BGs nabbed from the first game and the new ones. Could do with some more detail!
Nice characters though.

A demo? Fantastic!
Downloading now!

[EDIT] Rats! It's just the one room demo I saw before. Still, I must say the quality of the dialog is excellent. Looking forward to another good RON game!

Perhaps rather than testing IsKeyPressed, you should have the check in the on_key_press event function. That way, it will only come up when the key is actually pressed, not held down.

AGS Games in Production / Re: AGS MiniGolf

It's not dead, it's just resting.
I've had a few things on my plate - changing job, moving country, etc.
I'll get back to it some time this year though - and the other games I'm working on...
Thanks for the course Sergio!

Holy crap. That's some big news!
Now all they need is a publisher - how about LucasArts?

OSC: To tell you the truth I was partly inspired by a real jewel of a game “Thief”, but I was slightly disappointed about how combat oriented it was, not that my game is going to be a “Thief” clone, but it will involve the usual thievery.

But Thief isn't combat oriented at all! The whole idea is to avoid confrontation...

Nice sprites.

Nice artwork! Shame we've seen it all already in the Critic's Lounge. :)
I was disappointed that it was so short and so fiddly to interact with.

Could be a .com CEO...
I like it a lot.

I've been toying with this idea (making a graphical version of an Infocom game) for a year or two, so obviously I think this is a great idea! I would go for Enchanter, Planetfall, or the Lurking Horror though - one of the Standard rather than Beginner titles.

Your artwork looks very nice - the only inconsistency in the backgrounds I can see is that the post office has slightly darker outlines than the other two.

Nice one!
