Fabulous!
It's in the latest version, unavailable for now!

Along with
- Haddas' hole
- title screen
- scoreboard (although these are not in DM's style!)

Your artwork is superb!
Looking forward to this game...

Dear Farlander,

I'm not really sure I've understood your previous letter...

Any chance of an Apprentice hole?

DM, Erwin,

I think CM and Andail meant
- a project web page rather than the Inventory web page
- mentioning team experience & knowledge
- and what 3d engine they're planning to use (CrystalSpace? RW? Homebrew?)

Raggit,
You can just post your level (gif?) here, or PM me with the link.
Cheers,
Steve

You might be able to hack it by setting the text on a label in the GUI or setting the image on a button or something like that.

Hey, that's nice work!
Unfortunately (there had to be one) the engine is top down for internal reasons - it would take me days (and a lot of head pain) to do a proper 3d engine. It would then be much easier to move the whole thing into the plugin, with AGS just doing the sound, rendering and input.
And this was just supposed to be a side project for me!

Steve

[EDIT]
If it was rotated 90 degrees, it would then fit the current physics engine. I'd just have to implement scrolling. And a lookaround mode. But hole 3 would be out of the question...

Aah yes, a lord of the onion rings hole!
I still laugh thinking about it.

Damien,
Music? Great! Thanks!
Yeah, it would be great if the holes all matched in style, But I'm not sure how realistic that is...

DM,

1) Umm, I was thinking about it, and I can kind of do it, but it won't be perfect, unless I change the game engine a bit... It's a bit of a pain to enter the data for the walls and floors, you see, so it's kind of faked. We'll see.

2) That's sort of possible - I can "forward wind" by just running the physics at full computer speed. But doesn't that ruin the fun?

3) Yeah, I could do that easily I guess. Probably makes more sense.

4) Cheating? Pah! That would be a problem, because I don't think the physics would run quickly enough to preview the shot.

5) Of course I planned that stuff, and of course I'd love to have those things from you - I love your style! But I don't want to distract you from the beta test of JP & Cosmo.

You can make another hole too - that's encouraged!

Lost,
You were right about the slope direction on DM's hole.
Ummm, pool or bowling? Those are totally different games, but they're certainly possible. I'll release the code with this and you can play with it if you like.

Cheers,
Steve

[EDIT]
Snake - sure, a snake course is fine! Looking forward to it.

OVC - Umm, the plugin is just a floating point number plugin. It took about an hour to write. The ball physics are all in the room script. Those took two or three hours to put together. It's scripting the hole layouts that takes time now.

After a suggestion by Raggit:

AGS MiniGolf

Darth Mandarb's course:

Current features:
- 4 holes
- themed holes
- jumps
- opening and closing doors
- water
- slopes
- hole pars and shot counts, total course shots in top right

Planned features:
- 9 holes, based on cool themes or past, present or future AGS games
- course par in top right
- a progress board

Demo unavailable for now!
Move the mouse to aim, hold the left button down to shoot.

Hole contributions welcome, as are music and sound effects contributions.

Cheers,
Steve

[EDIT] Now includes Farlander's Snail Quest hole, and mouse control.
#3172
Hmmm, those both sound ok to me.
Darth's hole is supposed to work like that - the slope goes downhill as you go up the screen. Unless you mean something different?
On hole 3, I presume you mean that you can jump "off-course" to get to the hole quicker. Doesn't help much, but there you go.

Cheers,
Steve

[EDIT] Moved over to the games in production forum.
#3173
New version!
- 3 holes
- par times
- jumps
- better ball physics
- rolling around the hole
- opening and closing door
- wormhole (Darth's level)

ElaineMc:
Wow! That was superb! I loved the characterisation that the asides and the dialog portraits give to the story.
Everything worked beautifully too.
Excellent game.

Gord:
The archive seems to be corrupt? Anyway I tried to get it a couple of times and it only downloaded .99Mb, rather than the 5Mb reported in the zip.

Steve

PS - EMc: Massive nit-pick: the main menu buttons should trigger on all the cursor modes really.
#3175
Haddas: since you ask nicely :) As for CJs face, that wasn't quite what I had in mind when I said the courses should be AGS game themed... could be cool though. Nostrils for the hole. Heh.

Lost: that looks better!

Farlander: if you play the demo, you'll see there are two slopes already. I just use regions for the slopes and accelerate the ball appropriately. Read the proposed feature list!

Raggit: Yeah, I'm sorry about totally swiping your idea. I should have asked first, but it didn't sound like you were going to do something like this. Full screen credit in the game and docs for you! And credit for course contributors, natch.

Darth: Nice hole! Of course you couldn't resist your "planometric" (it's isometric really - don't listen to them!) style! No JP and Cosmo pimping? Those slopes go up as you go down the screen, correct?

More holes please - use some of those features. Doors, jumps, posts. And *theme* it - Pleurghburg, Larry Vales, 5 Days a Stranger...

Steve
#3176
Fabulous!
I can see that coming in handy!
#3177
It's a snail! But it's upside down!?
That will work fine - walls don't have to be at 45 degrees though. Go crazy!
It would be nice if walls had some thickness too.
And some top down trees, Snail Quest style, around the course? They could even overhang some parts.
Hint hint.
#3178
I could a template when I've made it a bit more user friendly - it's still one room only right now.

Lost Traveler:
Ok, so the ball starts in the bottom left, falls in a hole, travels down one of the pipes, then appears at the far end.
Hmm, I wasn't planning to include pipes, but I guess I could...
Any game theme you want to draw over that? It's a bit bland at the moment...
#3179
Ok, I was thinking about it in the bath, and I've decided to do a 9 hole miniature golf game, based on this prototype.

Here are the features:
- improved ball physics
- improved hole physics (the ball can run around the rim)
- slopes
- jumps
- raised platforms
- opening and closing gaps (like a windmill door)
- peg/posts (for pachinko type stuff)
- par times and a leaderboard
- shadows from walls
- multiple holes
- invisible paths (like inside a windmill)
- water, resulting in a drop shot

These features are all quite simple - and shouldn't take more than an hour or so each.

Here's what won't be in it:
- any perspective other than top down
- physics for the horizontal to vertical "edge" of a wall (the ball dropping off a platform)
- smoothly curved walls

But what I need is content - courses, based on AGS games past, present, or future.
Is anyone interested in contributing courses? All you need to do is to draw a course at 320x200, and I'll do the rest.
Pimp your game! Honour your favourite!
If I get more than 9 quality submissions, I'll of course make the game bigger.

I look forward to some cool contributions!
