Don't be afraid to try to learn how to draw line art and one point perspective either. You really can *learn* art to an extent. I'm no artist myself, but the difference between my very first AGS game and the games that followed it is fairly noticeable.

Wow, you've all been very helpful. Thank you! :)

Felt like being Captain Bring-down this time. I wrote (unless I counted incorrectly) 50 words about the various wars during colonial America:

You're going, now. It's time. There is no choice, it's time.
It's time to watch villages burn and friends die.
Take this rifle and this knife. You're going to use them.
You'll think of your life and all its shortcomings just before you die.
Yes, that is your destiny... conscript.

Depends mostly on whether you want to use a tile system for your levels or hand-drawn backgrounds. With tiles, you shouldn't run into big problems, room-style backgrounds I haven't tried yet but large levels might pose problems.

Yeah, it would be something with fairly large levels.

While I know AGS is very capable of producing platforming games, is it the best bet if I want to make a platformer that requires *very* fast scrolling? I'm just kind of curious as to what you all think the best approach for something like that would be. It's not something critically important, but it has been on my mind a lot lately as something of a future project.

YARR!!! There's probably a better list but I can't find one off hand!

Ah, these are quite helpful. Thank you!

So, yeah, my latest game will be a text parser. Being an ignorant, lazy American, I don't really know a whole lot of synonyms for similar words in British English that I should probably include in the game to avoid frustration. The game contains many different sorts of rooms. A kitchen with counters and cupboards, large rooms with night stands, a lounge and a study. The list goes on. The general thing I want to consider is simply the indoor scenario:

Can you help me come up with some synonyms for things that I may not be aware of?

Thank you both.

A quick update: I'll have a trailer coming out for this game shortly.

Awesome :D
Glad it went well!

Hm.  Since we've been testing the game ad nasuem with the current version of the engine, rebuilding a whole new version of the engine just for this one change isn't something we want to do.  It might be more worth it to create our own version of the winsetup.exe that the Germans can translate, if there's no other option.

Hmm...short of coding your own program that manipulates the .cfg file, I don't think this can really be done without changing the actual guts of AGS as per Snarky's suggestion...

I'm no expert though, so don't just take my word for it.

I plan on getting an older one, if I get one at all, that is :P It would be a big decision for me.

<--- Almost kinda/sorta considering getting a PSP for this reason alone.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure a certain someone around here made a Donnie Darko game some time back.

@anian- I'm pretty sure they just mean movies that already exist that would make for good plots/gameplay if they were to made into adventure games.

Thanks for the help :D

...that is, if it is possible.

I saw that recently I've been getting traffic from: http://www.thesyracusefanblog.com/
on my website. I checked the site, but it has nothing to do with what I put on my site. This happens all the time and I tend to ignore it, but what makes this strange is that I live in Syracuse, and when I visit the site I can't find where the link to my site is, or how it could possibly be relevant.

So, is there a way to kind of search for a link on this site?

The Republican party seems kind of strange right now. I've been following this whole debt ceiling crisis thing we've got going on here, and I'm not really sure what the hell is going to happen. From what I gather from the American Public in my neck of the woods, (which tends to lean slightly toward liberalism) people are getting extremely frustrated and out of touch with their government. We all want change, but all of the options seem limited. We're still stuck in a two party system until some more people wise up and vote for a third, so that kind of...well, sucks.

As far as Bachmann goes, I think she's an idiot. Her blathering about how horrible gay people apparently are did nothing for her cause for sure. Mitt Romney? I'm not sure. Everyone likes the whole "business man knows how to make us some MONIES" idea that seems to float around with his name (for some reason?) but he doesn't seem quite qualified enough...or down to earth enough for me. I don't really care for his proposed policies.
