General Discussion / Re: Politics in AGS

Well that was interesting. 4th quadrant for me.

Paint as in microsoft paint? Trust me, it's very much worth it to learn something a bit more advanced than that.

So few scholarships? Wow, that's really rough. I have quite a few friends who have gotten free rides from scholarships. However, for every person with a scholarship there's 100 without them . Also, buying a college education can be quite a risk. There was an article in the paper the other day about some guy who had gotten his degree in math, but there wasn't any place for him to work with whatever specialty he'd gotten. He's working in a movie theater with some absolutely massive debt.

Yeah, I was reading about the cap of 9,000, which is a huge increase indeed.

I'm trying to get a better grasp for it, myself. Here there are both private colleges and state funded colleges, and funded community colleges. It's nothing unusual for any graduate to be 40,000 USD+ in debt, even after attending the significantly cheaper funded colleges (probably closer to 80,000+ for private schools), but there are all sorts of options. Scholarships and financial aid are actually pretty easy to come by, I'm getting a fairly nice scholarship myself just for keeping my grades up. Also, the cost is cut significantly (or sometimes even eliminated in the cases of RA's and such) if you get a job on campus. It's a fairly complicated system.

My long winded point here being: I know nothing about the financial system of universities over there, are students given similar opportunities to bring the personal cost of college down?

Heh. I'm from America, paying massive tuition is nothing new here anyways. It's just good to have multiple perspectives. A lot of people there were scoffing at "how ridiculous it was to go so crazy over tuition", but we've never had cheap college, so it's hard to understand.

General Discussion / Riots in the streets?!
Wed 24/11/2010 18:27:50
I was walking through the mall and I quickly caught the last few seconds of a news flash about riots breaking out because of tuition fees in the UK. I was just really curious as to what had happened. Sorry for the overly dramatic title.

I suppose I could help out with the technical and writing side of things. I actually believe there's an honest effort here, so why the hell not.

I've seen art from you that's really not bad recently, so good work. :D

Anyways, I think it's a matter of why you decided to change the texture of the ground. I think it looked nice before. But that's just me.

That's my page if anyone's interested. I figure I should tell you all I'm in as motivation to finish, since I'd likely quit if nothing was riding on it.

I believe M0ds keeps the sountrack to my latest one (and all his other ags work) on his site if you're interested in that.

That's it! Thank you!

Just watched it on netflix, never been a fan of Buffy before, but it was interesting! Also substantially less scary than it was 11 years ago :P Even a bit funny, at points.

New question from Domithan!
Huzzah!

So it's this:
WHAT THE HELL MOVIE AM I THINKING OF?!
It's been driving me crazy.

Clearly I don't know the title, but I only caught a portion of it on TV when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me. All I can remember was that there was that creatures from fairy tales came to life, silenced everyone, and was tearing our their hearts. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

General Discussion / Re: Who gets the money?
Mon 01/11/2010 17:13:34
I think the "nice" option would be to return the money, but I think many people wouldn't. Hell, if it's truly free money, why not? The SC should have paid more attention, after all  ;)

Also, screw Mr. A. If Mr. B does keep the money, why should he give 50 pounds to a man he was doing a fairly substantial favor for in the first place? Buying something on credit for a friend is no joke! (See Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice...heheh.)

These of course, are my personal opinions. Don't take it all too seriously :P

There's some place to sign up for this?

D'aw, another reset? Oh well.
I just logged in and saw the damage :(

I've often wondered about making a living via indie games myself. As of now I have 3, technically 4,games out in AGS and I'm actually learning python as well. Oddly enough, I'm actually in year 3 of 8 of university (going for a doctorate, I want to be a professor) for something that has NOTHING to do with computers. I have always loved computers and working with them, but in this particular time in my life, I sure as hell could use some spare income from my work.

I think another important point is to seek out help when you know you need it, and scrap for any and all coverage you can find, even if it's local. One of the biggest issues I have is that I'm a god awful artist, and I tend to get discouraged and cut corners when I can't make a scene visually as I had it in my mind.

But I'm getting off track. In any case, best of luck, and keep fighting for your dream.
#318
Hmmm, I guess there's "I have no mouth, and I must scream.", although I figure you know about that already.

I'll have to keep track of this as well, I love psychological thrillers. :)

I just had to get a quick look before the reset....good God. There's some impressive stuff going on in there.

General Discussion / School, yay!

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but indeed I haven't been around a lot, and I feel I should at least make a mention that I'm still about, but I've switched into lurker mode, you see. Classes have started a few months back, and so I'm currently horribly busy with college work, etc. I am still playing with AGS, but I'm also learning other scripting languages, so maybe you'll see some new work from me! Who knows. Anyways, I can always be summoned to the forum via pms if anything crazy should happen.

Thank you for your time and attention. :D
