Glad you liked it! And yes, eventually. I'm working on a couple of other things at the moment, but hopefully I'll finish up this little series soon enough :)

General Discussion / Re: How to hire an artist
Fri 13/08/2010 02:04:23
Interesting read. From my last game on, I'd prefer to have nothing to do with art in my future games. I want to stand out a bit more, and the quality simply won't do. I prefer to just find an artist through more local communities, that way you can for something of a two man team.

Hello, welcome to the forums!  8)

The basic timeline of one of my games being made:

1.) Make lots of coffee.
2.) Story is created.
3.) Timeline of events in the game is created.
4.) I start...'drawing' all required graphics. This part is generally the worst, as I'm no artist.
5.)I start putting the game together.
6.) (And this needs to stop, probably my greatest flaw.) I realize something I put into the story isn't really going to be put in to the game due to my inability to draw, or the idea being generally too complicated. I change many things to suit the new roles.
7.) Add music and sounds.
8.) Upload to my site.

That's about it, really.

Oli, that sounds awesome :P

I'll have to actually give this a shot, I haven't made anything in a very long time.

First, Brilliant Work, AG.
Now then:

Night.
The rain falls outside, quite gently.
I retire to bed, with nothing, save a book and my candle. My candle lit since dusk.
I turn a page and the flutter of the paper sends a chill down my spine.
With the noise, I quickly lower the book from my gaze to inspect the room.
Nothing.
The candle lit beside me pours a wonderful golden light into the room.
I fear it may be my last hope.
My senses finally come to me, I know I must rest.
The task seems impossible.
I look over at my candle.
I know I must kill my best friend.
As the last puff of breath escapes my lips, pure terror seizes me.
Horrible visions attack my very core as I scramble for the matches.
The candle!
Lit once more...lit once more!
All is well.
Nothing otherworldly stands in my room, my home, my sanctuary.
I smile.
How childish I must be!
A quick wave of my hand, and darkness returns once more.
I gently wrap myself within my quilt and smile once more.
I enjoy the warmth.
Pure comfort.
My heart shatters into pieces which tear my innards to shreds.
My eyes open wide and bloodshot.
My body quivers and I bleed a nervous sweat as I hear him from below.
I hear his evil smile as he simply says "...over here."

General Discussion / Fast Food Rants?
Tue 10/08/2010 03:39:19
Recently I was listening to the radio while driving some deliveries for work, and I heard a very annoying little rant come on. Some talk show host was complaining that he had gone to a McDonalds late the night before, and ordered something that wasn't on the McDonald's 'late night' menu. They promptly told him he could not have it, due to it being...well...late at night. I followed him up to this point, but then he goes on to complain that the employees were being rude by not allowing him to have the items that weren't on the menu at that particular time. He continued to rant and accuse the people working of being idiots and slackers.

I was pretty upset with this point of view, as it was clearly the McDonald's Corporation's fault, if anyone's. It isn't easy to work in food service, which is something I think a lot of people don't understand or respect.

Anyways. Make of this thread what you will! :)

I just got back today after a rough couple of layovers in Milan and Zurich. Only got to the hotel in Milan around 9 on Saturday (Quintaros very graciously shuttling people around for nearly 12 hours straight), and only with the help of Darren's girlfriend's iPhone. Then discovered that with all my luggage, seeing Milan was not really a viable option (the hotel was too far out of the center to come back for the bags later, and there were huge lines for the storage lockers in the central station), so I ended up spending most of the day at the airport, only for my flight to be delayed so I missed my connection and had to spend the night in Zurich. Which ironically is where I'll be moving to in a couple of weeks; it was almost tempting to just stay there.

The upshot is that what should had taken one day (if I'd flown out of Rome, for example) ended up taking nearly three. And I had to give up the can of truffle oil from the wine tasting going through security. Damn!

Anyway, it was a great Mittens and a great time. Good to see all of you again or for the first time!

Sounds really rough. If there's one thing I hate, it's being stuck in airports. Glad it sounds like you all had a good time, though!

I want to see my games ported to commodore64. Possibly as TEXT adventures. Honestly. I think it would be cool to see a lot of games these days ported to something super old school, just to see what it would look like.

Looks interesting, for sure :D
I'll give it a go later.

That's actually really awesome. It will be a happy day for me if I ever get one of my games on TV tropes :)

Write it yourself and watch the epileptic trees grow ;)

Hah, I guess that's always an option.

General Discussion / App released today

Well, it's about time! I made a little game for the iphone and ipod touch called "persistence". It's a fairly simple concept, but I'm excited for making it in, regardless. Basically it's paddle ball, you tilt the iphone left and right to bounce off the paddle on the bottom, and obstacles fly in and out of view to make it a lot harder. I put openfeint in and all that so that there's leaderboards and achievements, just because those are fun.

Sorry for lack of any video, I really don't have a way to make a decent recording. Also it's worth noting that I owe the graphical quality to Ben304! :D

Hahah, sorry about that :x

General Discussion / Internet Provider Issues
Tue 03/08/2010 01:25:25
Hey all!
I know I haven't been around for a while now, but I went on a quick trip, and upon returning, had some issues with the internet company. I have it all sorted out now, but for a while there I had to use some unreliable sources for the internet, so I couldn't really be very social. In any case, just wanted to explain that.
