General Discussion / Re: Mitsuku

 Human: is it celery?
Mitsuku:  Yes.

Please ask your ninth question.
Human: is it a celery?
Mitsuku:  No, sorry. Ask me another question about it.

Really?
Huh. Well I'm glad you could help give me an idea of what it is. :D
I actually hardly know anything about sound effects...
EDIT: Sure enough, throwing 'scary strings' into the engine found it. Thanks Calin

For my next game there's a sound effect I REALLY want for it, but I can't think of what it would be called and can't find it anywhere on sites such as sound dogs, etc.

What I'm thinking of is a scary surreal sound that's almost like an orchestral bent high note...

I REALLY REALLY wish I had a better example (sigh) but skip to 2:21 (at about 4:44 is a better version actually) in this video to hear what I'm talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbE3BCMzTlQ

Could anyone help me at least kind of define what it is?

Cryxo, Jim, cogliostro, MrCheminee,

Thank you all very much for the comments! They mean a lot to me and encourage me to work on a sequel. :P

Yeah I just had the error that Leon described in the basement. Loop 1 does not exist in view 3.

A bit a of a pain cause I never saved it. :P .. Oh well I am going try the new version 1.1.

I am enjoying the puzzles a little bit irritating at some points but still good.

Edit: Ok replayed I was so close to the end  ;) .
Good story, Good graphics, OK puzzles and Animations were bearable  ;)

Good work. Not to mention Good scripting bugs were very minimal.

Actually at this point I'm willing to say there are no bugs left after quick-fix 1.1... ???

In any case, thanks for the feedback.
#466
Hmm. I don't have that problem and I can't re-create the crash. Do you have version 1.1? I'm willing to bet this is the same thing Leon mentioned that I released a fix for earlier. Did you do anything special before trying to open it?

Very glad you liked it though :)
#467
Oh wow. I was positive I had fixed that...  :-\

In any case, I'll have a fix up in a second.

Edit: Fixed. Sorry to whoever downloaded version 1.0.
#468
Sorry about that Leon, but I'm pretty positive everything was fixed... I'm not sure which part you mean.

In any case, glad you like it. :)

If you need help, feel free to start a thread in hints in tips, I'll be up for a while tonight. Thanks for the nice words, the both of you. :D

Well, it's ready.

I have to say I'm quite happy with it. While it may not be the best thing ever, it's something that can finally be taken seriously, it's what I always wanted the original to be.

To download, go here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/Newsite/Games.aspx/Detail/1294/Living_Nightmare_Deluxe

(Please vote/comment after playing.  :=)

WARNING: There are some scary moments that can make you jump. If you don't like that, read the spoilers text included with the game, or just don't play at all. :D

The plot is as such:
James isn't feeling very well. It's his 20th birthday and
he has come down with some sort of cold. This isn't too
unusual for April, it is very cold and rainy outside.

His family and friends visit, but James quickly calls off
the celebration after only an hour or so,
fearing that he will accidentally spread whatever illness he has.

However, what he
is dreading the most is how he will sleep, as through his
whole life, he has had strange dreams (mostly nightmares...)
and delusions whenever he sleeps while sick.

Although he no longer fears the nightmares as he had in the
past, James is certainly no fan of becoming delusional and
suffering from incredibly light sleep.

Dreading the worst to come, James decides to write to his
journal to take his mind off of things, but ends up writing
about his current situation. Thinking about the nightmare(s?) sure
to come, James can't help but think of the very first time it had
happened, and begins to think back to the experience...

You then take control of the 5-year-old James in the memories
of the now 20-year-old James.

What about using an invisible character with the 'say' option? I'm pretty sure using display stops everything without exception.

cInvis.Say("blah blah blah);

Sorry if that is too simplistic or something you've tried....

Really smart work-arounds you've come up with.

Hah, yeah I noticed that too :P

I'd hardly call the voice acting bad. There were a few moments that I didn't care for (namely when McCarthy says "Don't come any closer, or I'll shoot!" I wish he had really shouted it...) but it certainly wasn't bad.

I actually quite enjoyed the writing style. To me it was over the top, but it felt like it was supposed to be. It's hard to explain but just seemed to work.

Meh. Always gotta' take any criticism with an open mind and grain of salt I spose'... I can't wait for mine   :P

Oh definitely. Such is life.  ;)

I actually much prefer RCT1. Call me old fashioned. :P

After playing this and think about my experiences with the originals. This game is much more accesible. The oriinals focused more on strategizing and allocation of resources, where as this feel like the creators of Bejeweled retooled RCT, passed it off to some Web 2.0 designer to slap on a sexy UI and toned down the difficulty. Rather than sit for hours worried, pulling my hair out, making every dollar count, advertising at the right time, etc- I just sit back and play and almost always win by accident withing 45 minutes! Sometimes though, I like to sit and agonize... It's why I play Civilization...

RC1 and 2 are secret spies who do things gingerly and intelligently. RC3 is Chris Evans, cocky, flash, easy but with a lot of good under the surface...

Well that's really actually why I prefer the first two. I actually really liked the pressure and fast pace and what difficulty there was. While RCT 3 is fun, it's a bit too easy and less serious for my taste.

General Discussion / March Madness Anyone?
Fri 19/03/2010 17:02:43
I don't know if anyone else here really cares (especially those not from America) but the NCAA basketball tournament is, of course, happening now. It's basically the only sporting event I care about every year. The only sport I follow is college basketball and so far this has been one hell of a tournament. So many upsets!

I am of course rooting for Syracuse and Cornell. (Cornell playing right now and giving me heart attacks...)
If you're into it, what's your team?

What would WOULD offend me however, is disturbing images displayed suddenly and without warning (like prank screamers in youtube videos).

I find this interesting...

My game coming up is modeled after nightmares I have had and will include a few 'jump out of your seat' moments, but I think they belong, as that is how they actually happened. I think there's 2 (3 if you're REALLY easily scared) but none of the game includes random graphic violence, for that has always turned me off from atmosphere (I'm one to think Trilby's notes would have been greatly improved without the excessive dead bodies, blood, etc. in the hotel.)
I will include some warning dialog before the game starts about that.
I think that if they're tame enough scenes for my girlfriend to watch without jumping, just about anyone could. :P
Does this sort of thing bother anyone else?
