So this is my first ever attempt at pixel art. It's kinda like what I wanted my first game to look like. As if it were done properly... (maybe I'll get to work on it as a game?)

But anyways! I would love some words on this, and I would really appreciate things like:

*How to make it appear as though moonlight is coming in.
*What to put in the bookshelf without making it look stupid.
*How the picture can be improved in general.

I know it's pretty awful and needs a lot of work, but I've seen miracles happen in the critic's lounge, maybe I can be an artist.  :P

General Discussion / Really freaking mad.

Just have to rant a quick minute here...
I had a 'friend' of mine help out with some code on my website. Turns out before the release of Cryptic he changed all of the adsense publisher id's to his and not mine.
I was wonder why the ads said they hadn't been displayed once in the last several days.

What a jerk!  >:(

@Snake: Sorry if you're having trouble, but if the directions were clear, this game wouldn't be called 'cryptic' :P

Anyways, as far as a hint:
Spoiler
Look at what's in the picture...think of different words for what it is. Then doing something backwards will help

Well, in any case, I'm glad you had fun, I'm already starting to write and design the next (which I'll try to make a lot better, both in the riddles and the presentation, I know not everyone likes the clunky black background/white text guis.) which will take a while, but hopefully will contain something to slow you down a bit.  ;D

Ah very good advice, thanks, I'll be sure to encrypt the sequel as much as possible. In any case, I don't consider this game a lost cause, I'm sure many will play it through trying as hard as they can to not look up answers, or at least ask for subtle hints in the hint section.

Well, yes. To be honest, I was hoping it would take a bit longer for the answers to come out without the community having direct access to them within the first day, especially since there's no other form of gameplay to Cryptic other than its riddles. However, I do understand that this is the internet, and where there's a will, there's a way. I hope that most will try their hardest before looking up the answers, though.

Also, I've killed debug mode. Quite impressive... :-X

Gonna try it out!!

PS: Domithan there's only one time I've seen Leon stuble in a game...

Don't worry, Dualnames. I've already started thinking of riddles for the next one, and hopefully it will be enough to at least trip him up a bit. I actually quite like having the challenge of coming up with something tricky enough to rival his talents :P

I'm REALLY glad you like it! I'll be sure to make a sequel if it's well liked.

Always remember that you can type 'hint' if you're stuck! That is, until the end portion of the game. For the last several riddles your character will be too spent by the difficulty of the riddles and nasty atmosphere of the mansion to be of any help. Even if what he says doesn't sound like a hint, it's very possible that the hint you're reading is a riddle of its own.

Awwwwwwwwww. Well gosh, that's no fun. Oh well.
I guess I'll have to make a sequel that's twice as hard >: D

I'm simply couldn't resist riddles 3 and 4, they're classics :D
#594
Wow. I'm really, truly impressed. Kinda sad, too! I was hoping it would be longer that before someone beat it :P I suppose that makes you the first. I guess I'll give the award to whoever the first one is to send me each answer, just to make sure they've done it.
#595
Oh, sorry about that. It IS the fixed version, I promise. I'd just forgotten to edit the version number.

Also, I'm stunned that some of you have beaten it so quickly! (has anyone beaten it? If we can confirm the first I can award them...)  Anyways, for those of you who have gotten that far, don't be too quick to give away the answers, now. :P

I want to drive at least a FEW people nuts.
#596
Ugh. Wow. Sorry about that. Uploading fixed version right now....

But...you've gotten that far already? o.O
#597
Thanks! That means a lot to me, I'm really hoping for two cups, it's my second game ever actually. All I can say is: READ very carefully. The first puzzle is much easier than you may think.
#598
Here it is!
If you want it....

You can get it from my website:
http://domithan.com/?page_id=58

Or from the games database:

Have lots of fun. Don't go too crazy trying to figure it out.
Best of luck.
Although there may be a small prize for the first to get it done...who knows.

EDIT: Forgot to mention a few things.
There was a small bug, for the first few who downloaded it, there's a no bug version out now. Sorry about that....
The hint system is actually giving you a hint, I promise (until your character breaks down for the last few riddles.)
Also, for riddles later on in the game, google will be your friend!

I can't believe how many didn't like it. I actually liked it a lot. I had always imagined Holmes as somewhat of a quirky genius, and even as in the books, his abilities do stretch beyond just being a clever detective, I don't see why the action sequences do any harm to the character.

I felt the plot was actually very good. Not as good as some of the written adventures, but it had the basic Sherlock Holmes formula, making me wonder throughout almost the entire movie when something was going to be revealed, how something was done, etc.

It wasn't the most amazing movie ever, but I'd certainly go as far as saying it was 'good'.

Ah okay, nifty game in either case. For something made so quickly and being as short as it was, it was very enjoyable.
