Spoiler
Try to toy with your inventory items a bit. There's a 'use' option in the inventory window.

Heh, yeah sorry, figured this out not too long after I posted it... Only now...I can't figure out the computer's password. Or even if I'm supposed to be fiddling with it.
Spoiler
I've rescued troy and I've got the screw driver, the scissors, broken gun, detergent, (i know i need the detergent for what it has in it) Pills, and the beer can top.

Alright, I'm playing this game, so far I think it's pretty neat, but I am completely stumped.
Spoiler
So, I've turned the drunk into a woman, made him fall asleep, etc. What do I do now? I can't pick up the drunk, the woman in the shower room seems to offer no options either. Can anyone offer any hints?

Sorry to dig this up, but I just played this and I want to talk about some things. I'll post after I figure out how to post spoilers.
Edit: Alright, I've got it...

Spoiler
Okay, so, when the game begins, you see a light come on. However, the light appears to be on the very top of the building. How can we have an attic with a window later on if this is true? The attic can't metaphorical, the character mentions being there before. The attic "extending" makes sense as a metaphor. Also, I don't really get the point of the phone call, other than its purpose of telling the player something is amiss. There doesn't seem to be any significance to it and it isn't a re-occurring theme. Other than those things, the end scene did make me jump and I saw some clever bits of the story fall into place. (I.E. the son is strangled, but before we see the main character tuck him in gently.) Yeah...

Any thoughts?

AGS Games in Production / Re: Police Quest

Hey, sounds good!
The images don't appear for me, but it could just be my college's craptastic internet. I'll look again when I get home.

Critics' Lounge / Re: New pixel art try

Only thing I can offer is to point out inconsistency. The teeth are smack in the middle of the mouth when it faces right or left, but facing forward the teeth are on the left. If the teeth were only on one side facing forward, you should only be able to see them on one side facing left or right. (I might even be wrong on this, I don't know.)

Other than that, I like it. Great job!

This looks fun! I'm pumped to play it :)
#667
Ahhhh clever. Took me a while to 'beat' the game. I liked it, even though it was very simple, it was good and had a nice message.
#668
Nahhh, it's good! Clearly took time. Pixel art is something I may get into in the future, but not now, I've just recently learned how to draw depth and keep things in proportion, which is actually a huge step for me.
Anyways keep it up!

Unfortunately I cannot give any criticism because me criticizing pixel art is like a 600 pound man giving dieting advice to the general public. All I can really do for you is stare blankly with my mouth open and say that is AWESOME!
So...

That IS Awesome!  :o

Critics' Lounge / Quick Midi, Do you like it?
Fri 10/04/2009 01:40:54
I was just playing around with one of my midi programs and came up with this for a kinda "nervous" or "chase" sequence I might use in a game of mine or something. I can't really decide if I like it though, it kinda came out of nowhere. Here's the link, it should run right in your browser. (please don't use it without permission)

Opinions?

Hey, thanks a lot! Even If I don't get help, I'll continue with the graphics as they are. I'll get it done one way or another.

I need some help!
I want to make this game with half its current resolution, and, well, better graphics in general. If anyone can help me with the graphics (making new ones, mostly)
I would very much appreciate the help, and you will of course have your name in both opening and closing credits as well as on the game's page. I look forward to teamwork when it comes to making games.
I'll email/send over AIM the images that the artist is to re-draw.
There are quite a few rooms needed (most likely 20+)
As well as a few different characters.
If  anyone is interested, please reply here, pm me, email me, or talk to me on AIM (Domithan)
Thanks for looking!

Wow lots of good info here. I really appreciate all the responses and constructive criticism. I think what I'll do is ask for help, but I'm not so sure where to start. (I.E. Where to ask) Scale down to the lower resolution seems like the better idea, but I'm not sure how this will affect what has already been put into the game, I suppose I'll have to re-do hotspots, regions, etc. This isn't my first game, which I DID make for myself and put it up for download anyways...because I'm an idiot >.>
But I really do believe I have something going for me here and if I can get graphical help, I wouldn't mind putting in a lot of coding work, etc.
If anyone has any advice on this I'd love to hear it. I really like how much this community helps each other out :D

Looking at the screenshots, I'd redraw the background in 320x240 and rework the really low-res, stretched-looking character to fit that res, too.
I appreciate the suggestion, but I would prefer to mod the character to match the background rather than the other way around.

Dom, I personally like your graphics and I had looked at your thread before (sorry I never posted).

The only thing that turns me off is when people make 640x400 res BGs, but yet use 320x200 cursors and characters. It's not enough to make me not download it and play it, but it's just one thing I cannot stand.

So I would suggest, graphics-wise, make your character in 640x400 res with the rest of your game (same thing with cursors).

--EDIT--
And of course you can always post for help with graphics in the critics lounge or ask some one to completely take over the graphics for you.

Ohhhhhhh. I very much appreciate the advice about changing my sprites to 640x480. I noticed something was amiss between my character and his environment, this explains a lot T_T. I'm going to change this (if someone can help me with character sprites, I would love the help! I can't animate to save my life :P) I'm also really glad to hear you like my style, it's very encouraging!

Well, you see, it isn't that I haven't worked on the graphics, sad part is, I've actually worked fairly hard on them, I just don't have a whole lot of talent when it comes to drawing and pixel art. :(
I do appreciate the advice though. If I get too much negative feedback on the artwork I'll attempt to find help I suppose.
#679
I'm certainly no expert on graphics, but If I could make a suggestion, it would be that the hands don't come in front of the legs as much as they do. At x3 Zoom, you can tell what is going on, but at the smaller size it almost looks as if the waist is very small on your character.  But otherwise, terrific, I like it :D Plus you may want to take this suggestion with a grain of salt, as I said, I am no expert.

Hey all.
I am concerned.
You see, I fear my graphical style is so sub-par that nobody will want to play my game. The game I'm working on will have very good gameplay. I'm confident enough to say that. I'm confident in my story and immersion capability as well. If I can promise AND deliver a good game (I've been working very hard on it and have no plans to stop doing such, it has been going great so far, as far as programming etc. goes) would anyone be willing to play it? It's just very discouraging when I've seen some games completely ignored due to their lack of graphical goodness.
I like oldschool looks. Iono..
A link to the WIP thread on my game (with pictures and such included) is in my signature.
EDIT: Okay for one reason or another it isn't showing up. Here's the link : http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=37395.0
