The final game in the Living Nightmare series.

It has been years to James. Thousands of years.

When we last left James, he was trapped in an endless nightmare that had taken place in his old home. Since then, he has been dragged through a never ending abyss of darkness by all kinds of tormentors, and was moved away from his home long ago.

The experience for James has been hell. Yet, things have changed so much in the time that he has been held prisoner. At first he was terrified, and his tormentors enjoyed his fear. Then he became angry, and his tormentors provoked them in any way they could.

And now? Now James is simply broken. Finished. He still becomes scared, angry, and depressed...but it isn't the tormentor's doing anymore. When he can, he rests, but most of his time is spent in an unusual state of mind. He knows very little. He's been handed over to something. Something horrible. It isn't like the other tormentors, though. It keeps him locked away in a cell, occasionally picking on him for entertainment.

This game features two different endings! Yay!

As a final note, I want to give many thanks to the community for this experience. This is the last game of a series that, while certainly not the most amazing set of games ever, has helped me learn so much about writing, developing, drawing, and more. I couldn't have done it all without the help of many of you. I think that any future games will be all the better for this experience.

You arguey motherfuckers...

Yeah, I missed it when we were exchanging ghostly experiences :(

Allow me to fix that.

You see, I have this sort of erm..."condition" in which I sometimes wake up in a sort of half-asleep state. I'll often times hallucinate when this happens. Sometimes I have an entire conversation with someone that isn't there. However, here are some of the more creepy instances of the pseudo-awake-dreams:

I was probably about 7. There was a thunderstorm raging outside. The storm had this amazing foreboding aura, and yet I couldn't help but look out the window. Suddenly, after a flash of lightning, a hideous corpse was pressed up against the window, shrieking at me.

Another time, more recently, actually, I was sleeping and woke up to the sound of someone yelling angrily. I desperately tried to remember what they had said. I knew it was a short yell, like "HEY!" or "YOU!" Normally if I were to hear something like this in the middle of the night, I would leap out of bed and search the place. However, I felt like for some reason, I couldn't move. In the hallway, a carbon monoxide meter constantly casts out a green "everything's okay" light unless there is too much carbon monoxide. I looked carefully into the light, then suddenly saw a human shadow pass through it, although I saw nobody in the hall. I actually screamed. :x

I "woke up" in both of these situations to see nothing, but they're certainly scary when they feel real and I don't realize they're merely hallucinations.

These dreams have definitely not affected my AGS experience whatsoever.

Neat idea, but I'd like to add something as the guy who has made many games about/based on/ featuring dreams. Many times your dream will seem very surreal and exciting in your memory, but when you put it into the form of a game, it can be very difficult to achieve the same emotions and surroundings found in your dream. I say plan all you can first.

I've noticed with default keyboard controls, the character will keep in place and stutter in their walk cycle animation if the player holds down one of the arrow keys. Is there any way to remove this?

I have a handful of games that seem to crash on startup. Two of them are mine. Could this have something to do with having the games in windowed/fullscreen mode or anything simple like that?

Edit: Ugh, nevermind. I was being an idiot, I guess. I didn't realize it doesn't handle D3D9. Switching it to DirectDraw 5 fixed the games that don't work.

Sorry for the bump, but it's...TIME.

That's right. I should be finishing up things by the end of this week, so I'll need some potential testers soon. Anyone interested?

I figure this should go in the newbie section, since this is really more of a "how does this get done in theory" question.

Basically what I'm trying to do is re-create the GUI from the Oregon Trail Deluxe game, which you can see here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNcLSB0A3mI

My question is, how would I go about making the looping trail screen in the upper left corner during gameplay?

It isn't a pure loop, there are occasional "stops" during the trail, and if I really had things my way, I'd probably change the background scenery from the constant grass plateau and mountains in the distance.

Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated.

Okay, after some extensive research I've managed to install CFW. It was an intense few hours.

The title refers to myself.

I finally got my hands on a refurbished PSP-2000. I desperately want to run some AGS games on this thing, but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to setting up custom firmware. I looked all over the internet and found far too many tutorials, some which conflict with others and most warn that failing to install it properly can brick the device entirely.

From what I can understand, it's a psp 2000 running 6.37 firmware. Where should I go from here?

I apologize for asking this here when I could find out elsewhere, but I feel this is the best place to do so. I trust this community much more so than others.

I wouldn't scrap it, no! I know a number of games have an "unlock this door with a sense of urgency" puzzle. It could be the dog barking, the phone ringing, someone screaming, or even silence... as long as the character knows why it's important that the door be unlocked. Maybe the person on the other side has just had a heart attack and it's crucial for our hero to unlock the door in time to help.

Plus, a number of games have very similar puzzles. It's when games start to appear exactly like other games that people start to have issues.

In any event, I don't think anyone will play the game and think "WHAT THE HELL, THIS IS THE SAME PUZZLE I SAW IN THE VISITOR." and then ALT+F4 it.

So there's a good chance I might have been a bit slow on the uptake. Just out of curiosity, if I were to finish my game (that I was working on before all this came up) before December 15th, could I enter it in this lovely bake sale?

Dualnames, you're too nice. :)

Odd. I came here to say the same thing!  ;)

Edit: Oh wait, I thought you meant being too nice to me, but now I realize you meant too nice to you...but then I thought- nevermind. It's easier to just call me an idiot. I'm an idiot. :x

Aw, guess I got in too late for testing. Oh well, looking forward to playing on Halloween. I hate that holiday anyway, so I'll be happy to have something to do! :D

I feel like my Spanish is good enough to give this a reasonable answer:

"Lo siento. Nadie puede entrar en este edificio a peticion de mi jefe."

I'm sorry, but I don't know a word of French or Portuguese :(

Wow O_O That's quite the pickle...

I actually went ahead and took the advice given here! I started to work on a much shorter, less intense comedy to work on during those days I find it hard to play with my current horror/drama project.

Errr...not sure if he'll appreciate his baby being messed with. But hey, I don't know.

Ooohhh! I loved the "wide-eyed" sprite when he opens the shower.

Kind of trivial, but I figured I'd share this:

I've noticed that I have a very hard time programming/drawing/editing/etc. for my games when the atmosphere in real life is a stark contrast to the atmosphere of the game. For instance, in the game I'm working on now, the atmosphere is generally very dark and cold. Today was bright and unusually warm for where I live, and I wasn't really able to concentrate on the game. I think I have to wait until later tonight to work on it.

Does anyone else experience something like this?

If it's a lonely and depressing atmosphere, why not wash out the color a bit?

^This might be a bit extreme, but I think it helps say "I'm sad".
