Wow! Dott/FT meets ROTN. Impressive results. Really like the screen-map pentagram, though.

Wonderfully classic!

And well-suited story for a grand-adventure game. It sounds that the games we planned to do at 14 were always an obscession when we grow old.

I'm looking foward to this game. (thanx for the bumps! I never noticed this game before)

Extra-Powers : Regeneration ad infinitum - Over-visibility through glasses and extensive publicity - Children may choke on small parts

Next : Raphael Sanzio's  The School of Athen but drawn with pirates and Guybrush replacing Plato.

Next : Ronald McDonald Lost in a Dystopic Futur

This game is all disgusting dark humor but I'm still laughing. Soooo bad and soooo good in the same time. Immersive - coherent and complete.

Congratulation Blowie. It was entertaining.

For inspirational sources :

- Any good visual dictionary with close up on common mechanisms.
- Reasearches and drawings on Perpetulum Mobile ('Perpetual movements')
- Good illustrated kid books doing the same purpose.
- Da Vinci's papers and replica. (some scans on CD are abandonware now)
- TV shows like 'How it's made?' / 'How it's work?'
- Books of 'how to be magician' may give you some ideas too.
- Reader's digest style 'do-it-yourself'.

Remember the old proverb : 'Necessity is mother of invention' : Start with the final result then, built your own machine, then the puzzle.

Like GarGoth said : Interface consistencies should be priority. (I get stucked too with those  :-X :-X :-X light bridges. Downloaded a bad walkthrought - still was unable and end up killing all my fun)

One quick answer :
QuoteIf a Company needs a Building to go on with their business developements, and has been fighting for decades to has the money to build that building they need, why should they spend the money in something (...) They don' t need?
Right ! : They won't builted cathedral.

QuoteBuildings are a thing, generally build by private corporations (...) ,
Half-Right! : But not middle-age Cathedrals.

Quote(...) and social infraestructures are other (...)
Half-Right! But not middle-age Cathedrals, who have a strange status in a time where state and church were not separate.

Quote, don' t mess things.
I don't. - My point is that the amounts of knowledges needed for modern tech (and mostly on architecture) rellied on the apparitions of modern infrastructures such schools-transit and others. I was not trying to make an opposition between Social infrastructure vs private economy who by the way was very interelated until the second half of the 20th century. (just thinks at the billions made by railroads-tycoons(transit) or the steel industries (sewers sys) or the cold war in general (research/buildings bases etc.).

Anyway... I was just trying to relate that it seems that the number of university builted in a given society are in direct opposite with the number of cathedrals builted... And I don't believe it's a luck. EDIT : eg : if you don't have access to medical care? - Cuz they don't existed properly? - You build cathedral to pray.

Have a nice day anyway.

ya, but imagine what the middle ages cathedrals would have been like with modern technology?

They will just probably won't get builted. And use the ressources for hospital/school/transit/socialcares/streets/sewer systems instead.

Like progZ wrote in a previous post, don't be so fast adding yourself a label.

Most of the disorders (outside of phobias) can't really get self-diagnose. If you had a real OCD - you were actually posting something more like "my friends are stupids they can't stop telling me that I'm impossible, and now my mum want me to see a psychiatrist. They don't realize how much [choose a compulsion eg.: nose-picking, cleaning hands oftenly...] are important/necessary."

The only thing I can diagnose about you... is a small medicine-student-syndrome. In a daily basis, humans do thousands and thousands of actions. If you start focusing and doing an exhaustive list,  you surely going to discovered a lot of 'signs of disorders'.

Like any of us will find, if  doing the same.

Still asking myself... How Mittens should someone need to be in order to show up and say 'Hi'?

(AKA 'get drunk around the fire while staring at ppl fighting canadian mutant mosquitoes - so huge that they need to get on there knees to suck blood out of your frontal region'.)

May have end of July out of contracts.

Akatosh! This is all looks great!

QuoteI just can't draw mean enough looking military planning centres and run-down enough shack cities.

You should not worry : it's precisely because everything is cute that the game have a cynical humor implemented deep on any screens WHILE KEEPING EVERYTHING LITE. Like a Mary-Popin-style  musical comedy... with dictatorship.

And your style of 'minimal-art' drawing make your game very appealing for most of us. Cuze it automatically highlite the important-point and make the player 'keep the focus' on the game. (That's the most difficult to acheive in game-making) and as I recall Me Go Store by is art , style and speeches (most important in that kind of game) totally succeded.

To your towns ... any townish background will do perfectly the job as long as you implemented color-signs of poverty / time destruction. Military base the same : any room can do the job with good [name some military symbolic here].

I'm really looking foward your game.

Does anyone know any parodies on the DOTT? The only things I know are Night of the Hermit and Day of the Testicle.

If you like DOTT-style game, I can suggested you a list of Lucasart release called 'Monkey Island'. It's well made, and some even said 'addictive'. It's about pirates. They're a lot of games like them in the GIP thread.

Hum.... I'm not naturally for any censorship but :

Violence as a symptom of something else...

Hum... No.

Is it me or in the last 30 years any attempt to solve X question always turn on to : It's only the symptom of Y : Where Y is bigger, deeper, wider, more cultural, more insidious, more inconscient, more  anything else. But always conceptual and impossible to directly touch / legiferate / modified on the concrete world.

The reallity is, in that case, that our societies violence level came from 10's of factors including free violences from some video games. The fact that other factors play roles (name your favorites here), are not an argument to avoid a possible action
against one of the constituent factor. I do agree that a local ban of 1 video game are not a miracle answer. But it's a part of an answer.

*Bumps*

A little late on the schedule - And I can't even blame the nice weather outside  (a.k.a the place where there's no computer)

Tech note (For whom who may mind):
a) Needed to put all rooms 'before fadein' and 'afterfadein' into brackets to solve a little annoying bug. if (locations_number > 90 )
                                                      Fun();

That part is all done now.

b) The bad effect of Testing : Being over-critique : So, I'm re-doing 3 rooms location from scratches. - The puzzle just don't fit with the game tempo and the graphx in one, killed the zany athmosphere inc. from the other. Anyway.

c) Still asking myself about the Bosone Wonderful sid song. Those 10 extra seconds are going to be 400 funny game cycle from my intro.... it worth it but... it still 400 game cycles and I can't just let cZak.stare_at_the_camera(400); to fit the music....

d) It's been 350 days that I'm on that game... I should have listen to my mother and make amateur porn instead.

Anyway - thanks for the encouragement from everyone.

EDIT:

EDIT2 : I contacted Bosone : I'm going to take his song finnally. - Intro re-writting I'm here!

hummmm Maaaaaze :D

4 questions before giving a coherent answer  :

1) How many rooms? for the maze itself.
2) Is it random or coherent (before having the map/object)?
3a) how many instructions into the map?
3b) Will this instruction will need the character to pass-by more than 1 time in each maze room (see 1).

There is many ways to do such. Is really relative to the kind of maze/solution you have. (otherwise you are going to re-do everything twice).

The easiest need as many rooms as instruction path - The more complex / but more efficient use binary numbers.

Man... I'm in love with that robot since I played the Demo last fall.

Your new orientation don't make nothing bad, and I do believe it fit well with the style. Keep on the good work this game is on my top 5 watch list. It's unique on is kind - as long as you don't implement pirate robots - and have a light atmosphere that's sooo immersive. (I get stucked for a while and I did'nt ever mind....

Back in time where my C64 1541 disk drive weighted 3 times my actual laptop, I do considered the fact that the 'flip' on it were a kind of extra button.
Not to mention that in many adventure games, that it's the Diskdrive sound who tell you that you achieved something at the first place, not the screen.

The feeling of 'Put[ting] in side two and push[ing] joystick button' is, I'm affraid, lost. Even if it was a cut scene, and in some part almost an art (remember Duke in GiJoe?) I tried a lot to emulate it last fall but failed.

Scummbudy : Yep - And to that point it's not nostalgia - it's melancholy. But your thread gave me the final justification I need to justify mazes in my game:
teasing by making the character wish that time past faster - growing expectation in their mind.

Dronon :

If you'r not planning to change the game resolution or color depth - most the walkable area / regions and so on... will just need minor adjustements - adjustments that your going to do anyways during alpha/beta testing.

The danger of doing so is to get fed up yourself with a game fullfill of bluecups  everywhere, or - it's happening to me right now - an almost completed game where all the hotspots need to get redraw one by one (mine were just round spots).

Question to the mods/MrColossal:
If I like the question :
QuoteHow do ppl plan their game
Should I : a) Dig an old thread?
b) Answered here?
c)Start a new thread?
or
d) take a glass of water and head to my bed?
