Wow!

Definitively my kind of game! I get addicted when the Sid-style sounds starts. Yes I will definitively plays that game.

A point of C&C : (Take it as a compliment - I never think that the C64 - 16 colors can get used to that full level) - Because of the palette restriction and the resolution, there's a little thing that I found annoying: The characters,( by being well drawn with shadows etc...) are easily lost in the background (kinda camouflage effect) and It's removing a litle something of playability/immersion (kinda lost focus effect).


And I will definitively enjoy it. :D

By bringing the Fallout extraordinary combat system, you're touching the taboo question. Do Fallout is a RPG or an adventure game? And why (But mostly : when) did the 2 kinds are (became) separated?

We probably all going to answer that the both were not mutualy exclusive entities. And it's right. And in the same time we all agree that there is more than a 'little' (euphemism) difference between Final Fantasy CCDXII (I don't know where they are now) and  Grim Fandango.

ProgZmax : That was the essence (I'm way too much into philo 2nite... sorry guys) of my non-rpg-combat-question.

Or it's dexterity. (click fast)
Or it's stats emulating dexterity (almost necess. turn-based)
Or it's a puzzle (find the talisman and win the fight/s)
Or it's a trivia of some sort (MI - the Shivah)
Or it's a way to do a cut-scene, faking rpg (Tombs and Treasures for Nin8b Yike...)

Is there anything I forgot?

Anyway, the important is the player enjoying himself. And immersion/coherence/freedom should be on top of any to-do list. Chicken with pulley if needed, Powered-armor with a lovely/charming/classy/glamor/adorable Gatling minigun if it's more suitable.

EDIT : Ok! Got it : The MMORPG, but not Teh old MMOFPS, will like COFPS (CC), and CORPG (DI &   DII, tend to their (P U nP). If and olny if,  time (t), love (L) and integrity (I) of a given individual (I') [remove the I from I'] to acheive their non-selfishness. So, if I'm following You, The indivuals (S of all the I') will stop will start living real life in love by themself (P U P)?

Personal answer : no.

Combat in Adventure games?

Like it was said before, almost anything involving reflexes in AdvGame tends to be annoying to many players.
The FTrot' demolition derby on the very top of my black list.

Dexterity are sometimes necessary. (Is there someone who can tell me how else the loose brick puzzle in the MM'Jail  can be useful and realistic?)



In other hand, without moving the thread to the 'definitions debate between RPG and Adventure game', there is an obligation to have Combats in many cases. Matter of coherence. Matter of freedom. Matter of immersion.

Ex.:
The story of the kid who want to be a Pirate. (I don't remember the name, ask Cyrus, maybe he does). Swordfights are in all kosher pirate stories/novels/movies since RLStevenson created the genre more than 1 century ago. It populated the pirate island with pirates (sic) . Gave a reason to put in the game all the stereotypes about pirates than can't get pluged anywhere else. It's fun. And, yes, it lenght the game.

The Genius of Gilbert, (both of them, btw), was to do it without dexterity AND make it related.
Swordfight is not Caber Tossing. Rabbinic fight is not a mandolin contest.


I'm really about to ask a question. : Is there any other way to make non-dexterity combat without the positional Left-Right? (sic... you know what I mean) without looking like RPG? Or without looking like 1213 (is 1213 adventure anyway?)

Updates in the first post.

So Thanks ! I appreciate the goods comments and especially right now that I'm doing the most boring job of beta-testing ever made with that game.

I close my eyes and I see {x,y} coordinates; I walk in the street and see the walkways on some nasty pastel colors; I cDan.script too much; I see the world in less than 24 colors and have a wet dream about Leslie last night; I uploaded the Zak tune in my cell phone and I'm starting to found any true-color picture inadequate; I'm about to smash my old C-64 with a baseball bat for fun and I'm actually wearing and ugly nasty plain green shirts.

Life is beautiful anyway.

I now have a small Beta-tester team with the head office base in Germany.  ;) One other well known AGS contributor and, last but not least, a patient writer who going to proofread me. (If that is not a proof of patience, my friends).

You still have 2 weeks to contact me if you want to get in the B-team.

I like the bunkers on the beach. It give a taste of a real military base island.  Been a long times in videogame since it was possible to enjoy a tropical island without the epidemic presence of pirates.  :=

I'm looking foward to this game.

Yeah your right! (English is not my mother tongue...so  you're right x2 - how many times I restored a save game only to got the point on a too fast monologue).

For the other point : I think it depends on how WHAM will deal it. Some games a have agenda for that purpose.

I think I just was on my 'No-Talk-to-button-day' (  :-X )

Hudders : I got your point about immersion, but I should agree 100% with WHAM.

There's although lot of situations where dialogues kill immersions. (mostly on non parody game)

1) "Guys, we are in a big rush to avoid dying - how's your wife?
2) "We works together since 10 years - It's our vessel - I'm a mecanic, but can you repete me what I'm suppose to do with the reactor."
3) "I have a 300 rnd/min gattling minigun, but sure I'll do the 3 fairy tales task you wanted me to do before you let me in."

WHAM : Your game looks great - Can't wait for the first part. But take your time :
"Shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never ever cut a deal with a Xenomorph, mostly the orange ones"

Limping Fish : I tried your recipe but it didn't works.
I started with x = 6 slices; Everything burned.

Otherwise, the alternate worked better.
But It took me 2 hours to clean: half-dozen of roses and a tour to an expansive fashion restaurant.

Everybody knows that Randi was cheating his testings. It was so easy for him to use his own magical abilities, like Houdini did before him, to hide the thruth.

It's like every time I'm creating Psy-balls. They get stole even before I    was able to watch it. The Engine says.  Must be a bug somewhere inside 'Player enters room before fadein'
