It had a picture of Homer jumping the shark in the credits.

The writers know it's gone downhill.

To continue further, Satanism is Dionisian.

Much like the Cathars had a god of all that was pure and unworldly and a devil in Rex Mundi that was literally, King Of The World.

In Freudian terms, obey the Id, not the Superego.

Yahtzee's humor seems different somehow.

200? Try 400,000 :)

And that was just in '94.

The whole quasi cold war, nationalistic, ethnic, post colonialist mess that's in South Central republic has taken millions upon millions since the 60's.

It's still the largest scale conflict in the world, and has been wince the Vietnam war ended.

But they're black.

They also love a man with a penchant for pedantry and weak puns.

Although the new episodes in quality of humour can in no way compare with the echelons of it's heyday (and this isn't just nostaligia, since I watch repeats at 6 every day, as DG does [I assume] and episodes I watch for the 10-15 th time still make me laugh out loud), the new episodes can at least make me grin at least once.

I've never so much as lifted a lip except in a sneer at shows like Friends. I can in no way understand how that show is as successful as it is.

The Carr government has passed legislation allowing arrest anyone showing symptoms.

Apart from the totalitarian Science Fiction element, that could be scary.

haha, I saw the Androids live in concert (they were supporting Bodyjar, and it was a free ticket).

I have never seen a less reactive audience ever, or a worse stage manner/charisma from an outfit. The shitty 15 y.o punk outfits that perform at charity gigs acted better and got more reaction.

On your favour, I downloaded Sakura.

4 1/2 hours later I looked at the clock.

These things are damn absorbing

We really have to talk about love stories as written taking into account the the differences of the medium.

as interesting as the tensions were in the first two GK games, there wasn't that much that couldn't have been achieved in film or text.

GK3 had more elements there, since much of the relationship could be divulged from comments made only on the impetus of the player (looking at things mainly)

and DG, on that note, are you one of the people who became absorbed in True Love. There too the impetus is on the relations rather than the hentai.

The episode with Homer as the union leader may be my favourite.
Moreover it had a plot and the jokes come from that.

Lately they have jokes. And that's it. And since they're not in a structure, with no lead up or punch line they're really gags. Gags are fine, but you can't build a show completely on them.

And why do they seemingly devote a few minutes every episode to people pulling at their collars making stupid sounds. It might be remotely amusing one time, to some one bred on normal cartoons, but then it just becomes more and more irritating.

Or one of the newer episodes, where they brang back in Sideshow Bob...again, and devoted a huge portion of the show to him being electrocuted. I don't know how devoid of ideas someone would have to be to repeat the same clumsy and unfunny slapstick (and slapstick can be funny, as was illustrated in the shows heyday) joke 6-7 times in an episode, moreover making it run for 30 seconds at a time.

They had a period where they shortened the introduction sequence because they had too much material.
Now they've brought back the extended intro, and pad out the gaps with stupid noises and repititive animation.

Groening has control of who the writers would be when he was gone.

He implied that he appointed writers that would ruin the show as quickly as possible and thus avoid a protracted death.

But he forgot it was on Fox.

But even the writers know it'd gone downhill, after all they make a comment about Jumping the Shark every two episodes.

I've buy all my videos and DVD from warehouses that sell to rental places. It does cost alot, since they're paying for the rental licence rather than the movie itself.

Of course, even with video you can get the video or DVD as soon as it's released rental for a normal retail price, and cheaper than retail 2 weeks later.

The main strength in GK3's romance subplot wasn't so much in the writing (great games, it's still pulpy), but in the fact that both characters were PC's. That led to far greater empathy with both sides, something I enjoyed.

Which adds no help in aiding you with a PC-NPC relationship.

General Discussion / Re:Happy Easter
Mon 21/04/2003 07:58:25
Easter is a corruption of the Pagan spring festival Eostre.

Hence the bunnies, and eggs and chicks and all the imagry that has nothing to do with Christ per se.

The themes of rebirth were similair enough to the resurrection to allow appropriation by the early church, like the festival of Saturnalia.

I think the 3d may just compromise the simplicity of the game play that made Worms (and lemmings popular).

Sure it may work, but it may not have the accessability and addictiveness that characterised the earlier installments.

Trap-It's all cultural to some extent too. You'd be surprised how similair all western animation looks to the Japanese (I asked some).

It is slightly more uniform than ours, but only slightly, there is alot of diversity under the broad Japanese roof, just as there's alot of diversity under the broad western roof.

It's rather like the people really, we all look the same to them ;)
